Radical by David Platt Pdf

New York Times bestseller What is Jesus worth to you? It's easy for American Christians to forget how Jesus said his followers would actually live, what their new lifestyle would actually look like. They would, he said, leave behind security, money, convenience, even family for him. They would abandon everything for the gospel. They would take up their crosses daily... But who do you know who lives like that? Do you? In Radical, David Platt challenges you to consider with an open heart how we have manipulated the gospel to fit our cultural preferences. He shows what Jesus actually said about being his disciple--then invites you to believe and obey what you have heard. And he tells the dramatic story of what is happening as a "successful" suburban church decides to get serious about the gospel according to Jesus. Finally, he urges you to join in The Radical Experiment -- a one-year journey in authentic discipleship that will transform how you live in a world that desperately needs the Good News Jesus came to bring.

"When the Morning Stars Sang" by Scott C. Jones,Christine Roy Yoder Pdf

During a moment of exponential growth and change in the fields of biblical and ancient Near Eastern studies, it is an opportune time to take stock of the state wisdom and wisdom literature with twenty-three essays honoring the consummate Weisheitslehrer, Professor Choon Leong Seow, Vanderbilt, Buffington, Cupples Chair in Divinity and Distinguished Professor of Hebrew Bible at Vanderbilt University. This Festschrift is tightly focused around wisdom themes, and all of the essays are written by senior scholars in the field. They represent not only the great diversity of approaches in the field of wisdom and wisdom literature, but also the remarkable range of interests and methods that have characterized Professor Seow's own work throughout the decades, including the theology of the wisdom literature, the social world of Ecclesiastes, the history of consequences of the book of Job, the poetry of the Psalms, and Northwest Semitic Inscriptions, just to name a few.

The Wisdom of Proverbs, Job and Ecclesiastes by Derek Kidner Pdf

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom." In the Wisdom literature of the Bible we first hear the cool voice of a teacher calling us to think--to think hard and humbly. "How long will fools hate knowledge?" cries Wisdom in the book of Proverbs. Then in Job comes the anguished voice of the questioner, earnest enough to seek answers, honest enough to doubt easy ones. In Ecclesiastes the chastened tone of the Preacher warns of the vanity of all life under the sun. Sensitive to both literary form and theological content, Derek Kidner introduces Proverbs, Job and Ecclesiastes, explaining their basic character and internal structure. He also summarizes and evaluates the wealth of modern criticism focused on each book. Looking at all three books together, Kidner shows how their many voices compare, contrast and ultimately give a unified view of life. Kidner extends his analysis to include Ecclesiasticus and The Wisdom of Solomon from the Apocrapha, and he reprints excerpts from non-Israelite works that parallel the three major books treated.

Get Wisdom, Get Understanding, Vol. 1 by Chad Wagner Pdf

Get Wisdom, Get Understanding is an in-depth commentary on Proverbs chapter 1 in the King James Bible. Also, each chapter can be used as a daily devotional for a Christian who desires to learn the understanding, knowledge, and wisdom of God. In this book you will learn the purpose for the Proverbs, the method of interpreting the Proverbs, and a verse by verse comprehensive exposition of Proverbs chapter 1. This book is the fruit of Pastor Wagner's daily reading of the book of Proverbs over the last 12 years. It is his hope that it both encourages and challenges you in your Christian walk. Here is what other pastors are saying about this book: "The Book of Proverbs is God's wisdom speaking. Pastor Wagner's commentary on Proverbs 1 is God's wisdom justified of one of her children. With careful definitions of words to elucidate the Holy Spirit's message and comparative analysis from other scriptures, Pastor Wagner's perceptive insights are instructive, inspiring and convicting." Pastor Tim Boffey - The Cincinnati Church, Cincinnati, OH "I found this to be an excellent introduction to the study of Proverbs in general and Proverbs 1 in particular. It can be used as a commentary, but also most profitably as a verse by verse daily meditation. Pastor Wagner gives you plenty of "meat" while commenting on each verse and comparing each verse with other scriptures that support its teaching. He also often brings forth examples from other parts of the Bible that illustrate the lesson found in a verse. The understanding of a passage begins with its individual words and Pastor Wagner defines many of the words found in the text so the sense of the text is made plain and the verses are clearly explained and easily understood. When you have finished his commentary on Proverbs 1, you will have a greater understanding of this most important passage that introduces the importance of following Wisdom's teaching and the danger and destruction that accompany ignoring Wisdom's way. I look forward to reading and learning from his continued study in the book of Proverbs." Pastor Phil Jonker - The Grand Rapids Church, Grand Rapids, MI "Pastor Wagner has done a marvelous job of explaining the purpose of the Proverbs, the method of understanding the Proverbs, the requirements for understanding the Proverbs as well as the insight into the meaning of those Proverbs under consideration. This is a first-class presentation and one that belongs in every pastor's library." Pastor James L. Henderson - The Lakeland Church, Lakeland, FL

Wisdom Builds Her House On Seven Pillars by Sandra Crum Pdf

This book is about wisdom—how wisdom brings out knowledge with understanding. You cannot have one without the other, or it brings an imbalance in your walk with the Lord (Proverbs 11:1). Without a true balance, it is an abomination. What does this mean? Think about a scale. You have the middle with a bowl on both the right and left sides. There must be an even weight to have balance. This book brings out a just weight on how to apply wisdom to your everyday walk with the Lord in all ways. Wisdom builds up, but we must have knowledge to know where to apply our wisdom and to have an understanding of where each block goes in building up our house in the Lord.

Nourishment for the Spiritual Pilgrimage by Vernon T. Jones Pdf

"In the morning, while it was still very dark, he got up and went out to a deserted place, and there he prayed" (Mark 1:35). Jesus taught by his words and actions. He went by himself to pray when he was tired, when faced with upcoming trying events, or when he just wanted to be alone in the presence of his Lord. He gave us guidance about what to pray, how to pray, and why to pray, and was very familiar with the Hebrew Scriptures. Thus, if we want to become Jesus' disciple we should follow his model and invest time and emotional energy into prayer, Bible study, and reflection. <>Nourishment For The Spiritual Pilgrimage provides an aid for those who want to participate in the spiritual pilgrimage of becoming a lifelong disciple of Jesus Christ. It offers insight and support for those who daily want to turn their hearts, souls, and minds to God's will in their lives, as they strive to help in bringing about God's kingdom in this present time. There are countless other devotionals, but hopefully this can offer something that many of the others may not, a specific focus on the concept of discipleship.

Christian Foundation by Sam Royalty Pdf

Let's begin our with some important Scriptures "Through WISDOM IS AN HOUSE BUILDED; and by UNDERSTANDING IT IS ESTABLISHED: And by KNOWLEDGE shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches. A wise man is strong; yea, A MAN OF KNOWLEDGE increaseth strength." Proverbs 24:3-4 There are three keys to Building a solid Foundation: wisdom, Knowledge and Understanding. "Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding." Proverbs 4:7 The Bible says, among the three keys, wisdom is the principal of all. What is wisdom? Wisdom is the word of God. But you need to have knowledge of what the word says and understand it first before you can apply wisdom. The Bible says Jesus is the embodiment of all wisdom because He is the living word. "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth." John 1:1-5, 14 (ESV) Jesus came from the word, He is the word of God that became flesh "the word became flesh...", that's why I early said wisdom is the word of God and He was with God from the very beginning, and He was Himself God. "I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions. The Lord possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old. I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was. When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water. Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth" Proverbs 8:12, 22-25 When we say that wisdom is the word of God, that is what we mean. The same way wisdom described Himself in Proverbs 8 is the same way He is described in John 1, but He is known as the word that became flesh. So, Christ is wisdom. "For I would that ye knew what great conflict I have for you, and for them at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh; That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the MYSTERY OF GOD, and of the Father, AND OF CHRIST; IN WHOM ARE HID ALL THE TREASURES OF WISDOM AND KNOWLEDGE." Colossians 2:1-3 Christian Foundation helps you with the knowledge and understanding you need to transform your theoretical wisdom in to analytical and practical wisdom. Watch out for my book on wisdom (coming very soon) to get more clarity on the kinds of wisdom. When you are finished reading this book, your biblical foundation will be well built. Inherit the Wind by Jerome Lawrence,Robert E. Lee Pdf

A classic work of American theatre, based on the Scopes Monkey Trial of 1925, which pitted Clarence Darrow against William Jennings Bryan in defense of a schoolteacher accused of teaching the theory of evolution The accused was a slight, frightened man who had deliberately broken the law. His trial was a Roman circus. The chief gladiators were two great legal giants of the century. Like two bull elephants locked in mortal combat, they bellowed and roared imprecations and abuse. The spectators sat uneasily in the sweltering heat with murder in their hearts, barely able to restrain themselves. At stake was the freedom of every American. One of the most moving and meaningful plays of our generation. Praise for Inherit the Wind "A tidal wave of a drama."—New York World-Telegram And Sun “Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee were classic Broadway scribes who knew how to crank out serious plays for thinking Americans. . . . Inherit the Wind is a perpetually prescient courtroom battle over the legality of teaching evolution. . . . We’re still arguing this case–all the way to the White House.”—Chicago Tribune “Powerful . . . a crackling good courtroom play . . . [that] provides two of the juiciest roles in American theater.”—Copley News Service “[This] historical drama . . . deserves respect.”—The Columbus Dispatch
