Jesus, the Best Capernaum Folk-Healer by Zorodzai Dube Pdf
This book takes the established fields of orality, performance, and first-century Christian healthcare studies further by combining analogues of praise performances to Apollo, Asclepius, and those from the Dondo people of South Eastern Zimbabwe to propose that Jesus’s healing stories in Mark’s Gospel are praise-giving narratives to Jesus as the best folk healer within the region of Capernaum. The book argues that the memory of Jesus as the folk healer from Capernaum survived and possibly functioned in similar contexts of praise-giving within early Christian households. The book goes through each healing story in Mark’s Gospel and imaginatively listens to it through the ears of analogue from praise-giving given to Greek healers/heroes and similar practices among the Dondo people. The power, completeness, and effectiveness in which Jesus healed each of the mentioned conditions provoke praise-giving from the listeners to the best folk healer in the village. In each instance, while Mark is calling for attention to the new healer, more so, he is raving praise-giving.

Nights In Capernaum by Bruce Peltzer Pdf
Imagine going to sleep and waking up in a dream. In your dream you are meeting people from the past and the future, from all over the world. They have arrived the same way you have. Imagine you find yourself in the presence of Jesus Christ. Imagine being there to hear the teachings of the Lord. Imagine being there for the crucifixion. Imagine each night you dream it is the continuation of the same dream, as if you are in someone else’s movie. Imagine the dreams hold great danger for you. Imagine what would happen if you gazed into the eyes of the Lord. Imagine each time you wake up no one believes you, no one believes you. What do you do, who do you tell? Imagine.

The Baker of Capernaum by Jacob M. Van Zyl Pdf
The carpenter of Nazareth becomes the teacher and healer of Capernaum. But how do ordinary folks perceive the young rabbi? Amos, the baker of the village, struggles to reconcile his old ideas about the Messiah with the image of his new friend Yeshua, hailed by some as the Son of God. Soon a devastating loss makes Amos world crumble. Judas Iscariot and the butcher, Barabbas, are among the suspects. Comforted by Yeshua, Amos airs the question that many have uttered in despair: Why are nasty burdens laid upon nice people? In his search for answers, the abduction of Amos friend, Mary Magdalene, brings them in contact with Bedouins in the Negev. They discover that these nomads, too, search for clarity about the Messiah. At the Hanukkah feast, the Great One stuns Jews and Arabs alike with new perspectives on the first and second coming of the Messiah. Amos soon witnesses how the worst is laid upon the best at the Place of the Skull. This seemingly tragic end of a good life spawns astounding blessings for Amos, his friends, and even his former enemies."

Waiting in Obedience in Capernaum by Dale Weatherford Pdf
“Waiting in Obedience in Capernaum” is the sixth book of “The New Way Series.” It is based on the first century manuscript “Acts of the Apostles” written by Luke. Capernaum used to be a wonderful place, but it has changed — or have their eyes just been opened? Life as they knew it was gone. Right had become wrong, and wrong had become right. We wait with these same characters introduced in the previous book as they deal with these questions: What do I do when my beliefs don’t fit society around me? Will I wait in obedience when my world is crumbling? Is my faith strong enough to carry me through when I’m definitely in the minority? The next book in The New Way Series will take us to Antioch, a city in Syria. Many followers of Jesus have relocated there and the characters, some of whom walked with Jesus as children, now must face adult questions regarding what they believe and how they will let it affect their lives.

Searching for Answers in Capernaum by Dale Weatherford Pdf
“Searching for Answers in Capernaum” is the fifth book of “The New Way Series.” It is based on the first century manuscript “Acts of the Apostles” written by Luke. Capernaum is a large city located in Galilee and a place where Jesus once lived and taught. The children of Capernaum thought it was the most wonderful place to grow up. But as they entered adulthood, they realized that not only was Capernaum not perfect, but maybe their ideas and beliefs were changing, too. As they learned of Jesus’ death and resurrection in Jerusalem, they began to search for answers to their questions. Gradually, we see the New Way impacting their world, but we also see Capernaum changing as more and more Jewish Pharisees moved into the area. The New Way that they had discovered became dangerous and even life-threatening as it stood firmly opposed to the traditional beliefs. Acts is a turbulent time of history and Capernaum’s children became adults at a time of great social change. “Searching for Answers in Capernaum” is based in first century Galilee, but is relevant as we contemplate the same questions today. Enjoy the fictional account of how these adults dealt with their changing world. “Waiting in Obedience in Capernaum” is the next book in The New Way Series and continues with the characters you’ll meet in this book. Watch as their world continues to radically change, and they must determine their response.

Queer Readings of the Centurion at Capernaum by Christopher B. Zeichmann Pdf
The first-ever monograph on the history of queer biblical interpretation of a controversial biblical passage Since the 1950s, homoerotic readings of the pericope in which Jesus heals a Roman centurion’s slave have been built upon three of the account’s features: the specific Greek word pais, which can refer to youth, slave, or the junior partner in a sexual relationship between two men; Luke’s characterization of the young man as “dear” (entimos) to the centurion; and commonplace homoeroticism in the Roman army. Rather than affirming or denying the historical reality of a sexual relationship between the centurion and the young man, Christopher B. Zeichmann instead traces the shifting patterns of queer readings of the text and the influences of the sexual, political, and theological discourses of late twentieth- and early twenty-first-century Europe, the United States, and Australia. Readers will see how distinct political contexts have led interpreters to find very different meanings about the sexual subtexts of this story.
