Television Studies After TV by Graeme Turner,Jinna Tay Pdf
Television studies must now address a complex environment where change has been vigorous but uneven, and where local and national conditions vary significantly. Globalizing media industries, deregulatory policy regimes, the multiplication, convergence and trade in media formats, the emergence of new content production industries outside the US/UK umbrella, and the fragmentation of media audiences are all changing the nature of television today: its content, its industrial structure and how it is consumed. Television Studies after TV leads the way in developing new ways of understanding television in the post-broadcast era. With contributions from leading international scholars, it considers the full range of convergent media now implicated in understanding television, and also focuses on large non-Anglophone markets – such as Asia and Latin America — in order to accurately reflect the wide variety of structures, forms and content which now organise television around the world.
Film and Television Production in the Age of Climate Crisis by Pietari Kääpä,Hunter Vaughan Pdf
This volume brings together a range of voices from across the global environmental media community to build a comparative international set of perspectives on ‘green’ film and television production. Through this, it provides a necessary intervention in environmental media studies that actively foregrounds media infrastructure, production, policy, and labour – that is, the management and practice of media production cultures. Due to its immense sociocultural influence and economic resources, the global screen media industry is at the forefront of raising awareness for the political and social issues resulting from accelerated environmental instability. However, the 21st century relationship between screen media and the environment has another face that demands urgent scrutiny. The advent of the digital age and the vast electrical and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) infrastructures required to support digital production, distribution, and archiving has resulted in the rapid expansion and diversification of the industry’s resource use, infrastructure construction, energy dependency, and consequent waste and emissions production. Addressing these structures is essential to alleviating their environmental and social impact and ensuring that the industry’s rhetoric on environmental responsibility is reflected in its practice. As a mitigating counterbalance to the above trends, there has been a heightenedpush for sustainability measures along various lines of industry management, policy, and practice. These initiatives—including the cultural values they reflect, the political economies that form their logic, the managerial and marketing tactics that orchestrate them, and the environmental realities of their implementation—form the central object of inquiry for this collection.

Environmental Change and the World's Futures by Jonathan Paul Marshall,Linda H. Connor Pdf
Climate change and ecological instability have the potential to disrupt human societies and their futures. Cultural, social and ethical life in all societies is directed towards a future that can never be observed, and never be directly acted upon, and yet is always interacting with us. Thinking and acting towards the future involves efforts of imagination that are linked to our sense of being in the world and the ecological pressures we experience. The three key ideas of this book – ecologies, ontologies and mythologies – help us understand the ways people in many different societies attempt to predict and shape their futures. Each chapter places a different emphasis on the linked domains of environmental change, embodied experience, myth and fantasy, politics, technology and intellectual reflection, in relation to imagined futures. The diverse geographic scope of the chapters includes rural Nepal, the islands of the Pacific Ocean, Sweden, coastal Scotland, North America, and remote, rural and urban Australia. This book will appeal to researchers and students in anthropology, sociology, environmental studies, cultural studies, psychology and politics.
Television Production in Transition by Gillian Doyle,Richard Paterson,Kenny Barr Pdf
Focusing on the growing power of transnational media corporations in an increasingly globalized environment for distribution of television content, and on the effects of mergers and acquisitions involving local and independent television production companies, this book examines how current and recent re-structurings in ownership across the television industry reflect changing business models, how they affect creativity and diversity of television output, and to what extent they call for new approaches to regulation and policy. Based on a major study of the UK production sector as a case study, it offers a unique analysis of wider transformations in ownership affecting the television production industry worldwide and of their economic, socio-cultural and policy implications.

Stock-taking report: food biotechnology communication materials in the world by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations Pdf
During the Global Community Meeting on the FAO GM Foods Platform, held in September 2019, many participants expressed the strong need for a set of impartial and science-based communication materials that would address the communication challenges at a national level around food biotechnologies. To address this need, FAO, in collaboration with Kenya’s National Biosafety Authority and scientific and consumer education/communication experts, initiated the process of developing a communication toolkit on food biotechnologies. The toolkit is to be used by governmental agencies that assess the safety of foods derived from biotechnologies to better communicate with the general public. The toolkit will contain a series of guiding documents with various sample materials. The target users of the toolkit itself are the food safety and biosafety competent authorities in the government sector, whereas the sample materials are for the general public.A step-by-step approach has been planned to develop the sample materials with the first steps being the analysis of existing consumer education and communication materials worldwide, the identification of gaps in the information that is needed for consumers to gain a better understanding, and the selection of consumer education and communication materials to be used as a basis to develop sample materials. This document summarizes these initial steps.
