Pocket Primer on the Rheumatic Diseases by John H. Klippel Pdf

For eight decades the Primer on the Rheumatic Diseases has been the standard text from which most medical students and house ofcers have learned rheumatology. I myself will never forget thumbing through an older edition of the Primer as a second-year resident, while waiting to review a perplexing patient with my tutor. Fortunately the tutor was r- ning late with his own patients, so I had time to fip through the book – then much thinner – a couple of times. While turning the pages, per- ing the features of those diseases whose names were still exotic to me, and considering my patient’s history of conductive hearing loss and p- monary nodules, a light went on when I stumbled eventually on a part- ular chapter. I still remember the jaw-dropping efect on my tutor of my announcement then that I had a patient with Wegener’s granulomatosis. I think I became a rheumatologist that very moment! Subsequent editions of the Primer have sufered from the inevitable “obesity creep,” making it an outstanding reference textbook but virtually impossible to fip through quickly while awaiting one’s tutor, and even more difcult to slip into the pocket of a white coat to carry on rounds. For this reason we have created the Pocket Primer, a mini version that cuts the larger book down to its essentials.

Atlas of Rheumatology by John H. Stone Pdf

Atlas of Rheumatology will become the best-illustrated book (and electronic interface) ever published on the rheumatic diseases. Premier clinicians in each area of rheumatology will provide illustrations related to their subject of expertise. The chapters in The Atlas will correspond closely with those in The Primer and A Clinician’s Pearls & Myths. The book will provide a trove of clinical illustrations to the trainee and the practicing physician, and will do so in a memorable fashion. Each figure will illustrate one (and usually more than one) important clinical lesson. Each figure will be provided with a clear, appropriate legend that expresses the figure’s lessons and extrapolates the findings to support a broader frame of knowledge. Each chapter will be illustrated thoroughly with clinical photographs and radiologic images. These figures will be different from ones included in the The Primer and A Clinician’s Pearls & Myths. These books can be cross-referenced extensively in The Atlas. The contributors for each chapter of the new book will be selected from the authors of The Primer and A Clinician’s Pearls & Myths. However, some authors may be replaced or supplemented by the inclusion of co-authors.

Pathology and Pathobiology of Rheumatic Diseases glows with the uncommon precision of the pathologist, the clarity of the tea cher, and the unswerving commitment of the investigator. Fass bender has produced a major contribution to the literature of rheumatic diseases. The enor mous achievements made in molecular biology, genetics, struc tural biochemistry, and clinical science have been assembled in this book to interact in a meaningful way with the anatomical histology of the rheumatic diseases. It is not easy for any single investigator to paint the picture of a disease process, from its clinical description to its mechanisms, and then to a defined hypothesis, and finally an understanding. Nonetheless, Fassbender has done this in a clear and convincing way that integrates our current knowledge of this group of dis eases. Scientific discovery in medicine moves from the bedside to the bench, back to the bedside, and then back to the bench, etc. It is this iterative process of new observation and new discovery that has given us the achievements in medicine over the past century.
