Katha Upanishad by Gambhirananda, Swami Pdf

This Upanishad forms a part of the Brahmana belonging to the Katha Shakha of the Krishna Yajur Veda. It stands in a class by itself. It combines charming poetry, elevating mysticism, and profound philosophy. The subject of the mystery of death is introduced through the medium of an interesting anecdote; and the teaching of the Upanishad is presented in the form of a dialogue between a mere boy, Nachiketa, and Yama, the King of Death. With the text of the Upanishad in Devanagari, a lucid and faithful translation of the text and commentary, relevant notes, reference to quotations, and index to texts, this Upanishad is a must for all students of Vedanta. Published by Advaita Ashrama, a publication house of Ramakrishna Math, Belur Math.

Upanishads by Acharya Prashant Pdf

Upanishads, in the words of Adi Shankaracharya, are known as Ātmavidyā (knowledge of the self) or Brahmavidyā (knowledge of Brahma). This ancient and timeless stream of knowledge needs no introduction to state its relevance in present modern times. What is needed is the cleansing of the dirt that has accumulated around it through ages, in the name of superstitions, superficial treatments, esoteric rituals, methods, entertainment―resulting in an escape from bare realities of life. This book is a collection of sessions of Acharya Prashant with genuine seekers who are fed-up of self-imposed bondages and are prepared to honestly pay the price for their liberation. About Upanishads: The Sanskrit term Upaniṣad (from upa ""by"" and ni-ṣad ""sit down"") translates to ""sitting down near"", referring to the student sitting down near the teacher while receiving spiritual knowledge (Gurumukh). The Upanishads are commonly referred to as Vedānta. Vedanta has been interpreted as the ""last chapters, parts of the Veda"" and alternatively as ""object, the highest purpose of the Veda"". Along with the Bhagavad Gita and the Brahmasutra, the Mukhya Upanishads (known collectively as the Prasthanatrayi) provide a foundation for the several later schools of Vedanta. Around 108 Upanishads are known, of which the first dozen or so are the oldest and most important and are referred to as the principal or mukhya Upanishads.

The Upanishads by Sri Sri Aurobindo Pdf

"The Upanishads" is a collection of Sri Aurobindo's final translations of and commentaries on every Upanishad or other Vedantic text he worked on. Upanishads are the ancient treatises on spiritual truths as envisioned by the seers, sages and rishis of the civilization of India. Sri Aurobindo, known as Sri Aurobindo (Sri Ôrobindo), (15 August 1872 - 5 December 1950), born Aurobindo Ghose, was an Indian nationalist, philosopher, yogi, guru, and poet. He joined the Indian movement for independence from British rule, for a while became one of its influential leaders and then became a spiritual reformer, introducing his visions on human progress and spiritual evolution. Aurobindo studied for the Indian Civil Service at King's College, Cambridge, England. After returning to India he took up various civil service works under the maharaja of the princely state of Baroda and began to involve himself in politics. He was imprisoned by the British for writing articles against British rule in India. He was released when no evidence was provided. During his stay in the jail he had mystical and spiritual experiences, after which he moved to Pondicherry, leaving politics for spiritual work. During his stay in Pondicherry, Aurobindo developed a method of spiritual practice he called Integral Yoga. The central theme of his vision was the evolution of human life into a life divine. He believed in a spiritual realisation that not only liberated man but transformed his nature, enabling a divine life on earth. In 1926, with the help of his spiritual collaborator, Mirra Alfassa (referred to as "The Mother"), he founded the Sri Aurobindo Ashram. He died on 5 December 1950 in Pondicherry. His main literary works are The Life Divine, which deals with theoretical aspects of Integral Yoga; Synthesis of Yoga, which deals with practical guidance to Integral Yoga; and Savitri: A Legend and a Symbol, an epic poem which refers to a passage in the Mahabharata, where its characters actualise Integral Yoga in their lives. His works also include philosophy, poetry, translations and commentaries on the Vedas, Upanishads and the Bhagavad Gita. He was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1943 and for the Nobel Peace Prize in 1950.

The Vedas and Upanishads for Children by Roopa Pai Pdf

Three thousand years ago, deep inside the forests of India, a great 'thought revolution' was brewing. In those forest labs, the brightest thinker–philosophers contemplated the universe, reflected on ancient texts called the Vedas and came up with startling insights into questions we still don't have final answers to, like: • What is the universe made of? • How do I know I'm looking at a tree when I see one? • Who am I? And where did they put those explosive findings? In a sprawling body of goosebumpy and fascinating oral literature called the Upanishads! Intimidated? Don't be! For this joyful, fun guide to some of India's longest-lasting secular wisdoms, reinterpreted for first-time explorers by Roopa Pai, is guaranteed to keep you turning the pages.

The Bhagavad-Gita by Veeraswamy Krishnaraj Pdf

Gita teaches man the essentials of living in this world and beyond: Your soul is eternal and indestructible; the body beautiful is only a garment; beings and universe arose from an act of sacrifice by God; the burden of samsara (cycle of births and rebirths) can be shed by devotion to God; man by his conduct creates his own dharma and karma, which control the present and the future; plants, animals and men have souls, some sentient and some insentient; our roots are in heaven; doing one's dharma(duty)by itself is yoga; liberation is the only goal of man; there are many ways and means to attain God and nobody is excluded.

Critical Review of Bhagavad Gita by Soham Swami Pdf

Bhagavad Gita, the song of Bhagavad, having emanated from the mouth of Lord Krishna is considered sacrosanct by Hindus. Though scholars in their commentaries and glosses had often differed in their interpretations of the Gita verses and opposed each other, but none doubted its infallibility, and therefore its inviolability had never been challenged. Hence, efforts to review the book was considered profane and barred by fear of desecration. Rationality, though believed to be a rare human attribute, is not entirely unknown in the spiritual domain. Instead of suppressing the truth and killing doubts with imaginary fear of divine wrath, the Advaitin monk Paramhangsa Soham Swami penned Bhagavadgeetar shamolochona, a critique of Bhagavad Gita, in 1918 in his native tongue Bengali, which was published posthumously on his first death anniversary on 6th December, 1919. The English translation of the book, Critical Review of Bhagavad Gita, is being published in the centenary year. The most popular and widely-read book that claims to contain the essence of Hindu thought is Bhagavad Gita. It is venerated by all sections of Hindus and is universally referred to as a mine of infallible knowledge for establishing the veracity of diverse sectarian beliefs in the Hindu society. But is Bhagavad Gita worth all the hype? An impartial evaluation will reveal that the book has been skilfully marketed as a panacea for all real life problems and spiritual enlightenment. The Critical Review of Bhagavad Gita is unique because it has not only highlighted the fallacies and inconsistencies, but has also revealed how Gita has diverted from the concepts of the Vedas and Upanishads that form the real cornerstone of Hinduism. About the Author: Paramhangsa Soham Swami (1858-1918) was a follower of the Indian tradition of non-dualism or Advaita Vedanta. Known as Shyamakanta Bandopadhyay (Banerjee) in his pre-monastic days, he was renowned for his extraordinary physical strength and exemplary courage. After graduating from Dacca College, he chose an unusual vocation - wrestling with wild tigers. He was revered by Indians and Europeans as Professor Banerjee, the first tiger tamer of India. However, at the age of 41, renouncing wealth, family and fame, he became an ascetic. Under the tutelage of his master Nabin Chandra Chakroborty alias Tibbatibaba he discovered the Absolute Truth.
