Analyzing the Large Number of Variables in Biomedical and Satellite Imagery by Phillip I. Good Pdf

This book grew out of an online interactive offered through statcourse.com, and it soon became apparent to the author that the course was too limited in terms of time and length in light of the broad backgrounds of the enrolled students. The statisticians who took the course needed to be brought up to speed both on the biological context as well as on the specialized statistical methods needed to handle large arrays. Biologists and physicians, even though fully knowledgeable concerning the procedures used to generate microaarrays, EEGs, or MRIs, needed a full introduction to the resampling methods—the bootstrap, decision trees, and permutation tests, before the specialized methods applicable to large arrays could be introduced. As the intended audience for this book consists both of statisticians and of medical and biological research workers as well as all those research workers who make use of satellite imagery including agronomists and meteorologists, the book provides a step-by-step approach to not only the specialized methods needed to analyze the data from microarrays and images, but also to the resampling methods, step-down multi-comparison procedures, multivariate analysis, as well as data collection and pre-processing. While many alternate techniques for analysis have been introduced in the past decade, the author has selected only those techniques for which software is available along with a list of the available links from which the software may be purchased or downloaded without charge. Topical coverage includes: very large arrays; permutation tests; applying permutation tests; gathering and preparing data for analysis; multiple tests; bootstrap; applying the bootstrap; classification methods; decision trees; and applying decision trees.

The Practically Cheating Statistics Handbook -- 3rd Edition by S. Deviant Pdf

"The Simplest way to ace Statistics." Are you taking a statistics class right now or very soon? I struggled with statistics even while I got my master's degree in math, and after teaching statistics myself, I know why: statistics books and websites suck! They are written by people who "get" math, not for people like us! I wrote the Practically Cheating Statistics Handbook so you don't have to struggle anymore. I've been giving my own students this material since I started teaching, and the students who use it never fail, and their average grade is one or two letter grades higher than other students in the same class. Dozens of TI-83 how-to articles are included! This edition of The Practically Cheating Statistics Handbook includes the TI-83 Companion Guide, giving you simple, step-by-step instructions for solving the most common statistics problems with the TI-83 calculator. The guide walks you through each problem type, telling you exactly what buttons to press without leaving out any details!

Statistics in Plain English, Third Edition by Timothy C. Urdan Pdf

This inexpensive paperback provides a brief, simple overview of statistics to help readers gain a better understanding of how statistics work and how to interpret them correctly. Each chapter describes a different statistical technique, ranging from basic concepts like central tendency and describing distributions to more advanced concepts such as t tests, regression, repeated measures ANOVA, and factor analysis. Each chapter begins with a short description of the statistic and when it should be used. This is followed by a more in-depth explanation of how the statistic works. Finally, each chapter ends with an example of the statistic in use, and a sample of how the results of analyses using the statistic might be written up for publication. A glossary of statistical terms and symbols is also included. New features in the third edition include: a new chapter on Factor and Reliability Analysis especially helpful to those who do and/or read survey research, new "Writing it Up" sections demonstrate how to write about and interpret statistics seen in books and journals, a website at http://www.psypress.com/statistics-in-plain-english with PowerPoint presentations, interactive problems (including an overview of the problem's solution for Instructors) with an IBM SPSS dataset for practice, videos of the author demonstrating how to calculate and interpret most of the statistics in the book, links to useful websites, and an author blog, new section on understanding the distribution of data (ch. 1) to help readers understand how to use and interpret graphs, many more examples, tables, and charts to help students visualize key concepts. Statistics in Plain English, Third Edition is an ideal supplement for statistics, research methods, and/or for courses that use statistics taught at the undergraduate or graduate level, or as a reference tool for anyone interested in refreshing their memory about key statistical concepts. The research examples are from psychology, education, and other social and behavioral sciences.

Mistakes in Quality Statistics and How to Fix Them by Donald W. Benbow Pdf

Throughout Don Benbow's extensive career, teaching mathematics and statistical courses to college students and corporate employees, one common question always popped up: how do you fix statistical errors in quality? Most textbooks and courses tend to emphasize how to perform statistical analysis and give little attention to errors that can occur in the process. This book intends to teach readers how to avoid common pitfalls by providing examples and scenarios based on similar real-world events. The book also provides caveats (or quick tips) to help readers navigate their way through statistical methodology.
