The United Nations world water development report 2015: water for a sustainable world by Connor, Richard Pdf

The United Nations World Water Assessment Programme (WWAP) is hosted and led by UNESCO. WWAP brings together the work of 31 UN-Water Members as well as 37 Partners to publish the United Nations World Water Development Report (WWDR) series. Under the theme Water for Sustainable Development, the WWDR 2015 has been prepared as a contribution from UN-Water to the discussions surrounding the post-2015 framework for global sustainable development. Highlighting water's unique and often complex role in achieving various sustainable development objectives, the WWDR 2015 is addressed to policy- and decision-makers inside and outside the water community, as well as to anyone with an interest in freshwater and its many life-giving benefits. The report sets an aspirational yet achievable vision for the future of water towards 2050 by describing how water supports healthy and prosperous human communities, maintains well functioning ecosystems and ecological services, and provides a cornerstone for short and long-term economic development. It provides an overview of the challenges, issues and trends in terms of water resources, their use and water-related services like water supply and sanitation. The report also offers, in a rigorous yet accessible manner, guidance about how to address these challenges and to seize the opportunities that sound water management provides in order to achieve and maintain economic, social and environmental sustainability.

The Eastern Partnership and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Pdf

The EaP is a joint policy initiative that aims to deepen and strengthen relations between the EU, its Member States and the post-Soviet nations of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. This policy initiative was meant to complement and strengthen the Eastern dimension of the European Neighbourhood Policy. To introduce some level of coherence in their relationship with the EaP partner countries the '20 Deliverables for 2020', was first published on 15 December 2016. This report focuses primarily on the 20 Deliverables for 2020 because the sectoral areas included can be considered in relation to the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. As all member states of the EU and the six countries covered by the EaP are committed to the 2030 Agenda, the report considers the contributions and opportunities presented by 20 for 2020 as mutually reinforcing. The report is intended to offer strategic insights about the political framing of the SDGs in those countries covered by the EaP and an analysis of common development challenges. It explores some long-term challenges around economic growth, demography and the environment; and assesses the status of SDG implementation in each country. It then offers some priority areas that governments and development partners can focus on to increase the transformative potential of their policies and investments.

Global Water Ethics by Rafael Ziegler,David Groenfeldt Pdf

Scholarly interest in water ethics is increasing, motivated by the urgency of climate change, water scarcity, privatization and conflicts over water resources. Water ethics can provide both conceptual perspectives and practical methodologies for identifying outcomes which are environmentally sustainable and socially just. This book assesses the implications of ongoing research in framing a new discipline of water ethics in practice. Contributions consider the difficult ethical and epistemological questions of water ethics in a global context, as well as offering local, empirical perspectives. Case study chapters focus on a range of countries including Canada, China, Germany, India, South Africa and the USA. The respective insights are brought together in the final section concerning the practical project of a universal water ethics charter, alongside theoretical questions about the legitimacy of a global water ethics. Overall the book provides a stimulating examination of water ethics in theory and practice, relevant to academics and professionals in the fields of water resource management and governance, environmental ethics, geography, law and political science.
