Comparative Perspectives on E-government by Peter Hernon,Rowena Cullen,Harold Relyea Pdf

In the 1990s, many governments began to use information and communications technologies, especially Internet applications, to improve the efficiency and economy of government operations and to provide their citizens, the business community, and government officials with information and services. The goal of e-government is to become entrenched in the everyday lives of these people so that they become reliant on Internet access to government. Comparative Perspectives on E-government draws upon the expertise of its contributors, who have conducted research and policy analyses related to government information policy and e-government, and who have published previously in these areas. The focus of coverage is on five countries (Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States) and topical issues such as the digital divide, the balance between access and security in the aftermath of 9-11, trust in government, the citizen's perspective on e-government, and the evaluation of government Web sites. The book addresses the need to understand the phenomenon of e-government better_its development, mission and goals, success in achieving those goals, and future plans_extending an inquiry to both developed and developing countries. An additional need for detailed cross-country analyses and comparisons, introduced here, is also addressed.

Comparative E-Government by Christopher G. Reddick Pdf

Comparative E-Government examines the impact of information and communication technology (ICT) on governments throughout the world. It focuses on the adoption of e-government both by comparing different countries, and by focusing on individual countries and the success and challenges that they have faced. With 32 chapters from leading e-government scholars and practitioners from around the world, there is representation of developing and developed countries and their different stages of e-government adoption. Part I compares the adoption of e-government in two or more countries. The purpose of these chapters is to discern the development of e-government by comparing different counties and their individual experiences. Part II provides a more in-depth focus on case studies of e-government adoption in select countries. Part III, the last part of the book, examines emerging innovations and technologies in the adoption of e-government in different countries. Some of the emerging technologies are the new social media movement, the development of e-participation, interoperability, and geographic information systems (GIS).

E-government: by Anil Sieben Pdf

"E-Government: Perspectives, Challenges and Opportunities begins by addressing an investigation conducted in a current EU project wherein it was made evident that the successful interplay between institutions and technology makes the digitization of government services possible. The authors present the results of a systematic literature mapping that reviews the adoption level of enterprise architectures in local e-governments. These results will indicate where and how enterprise architectures have been used, which frameworks are used for their definition, and possible challenges and opportunities for their utilization in the local e-government context. An empirical evaluation that combines two different Multi-criteria decision making techniques, called AHP and TOPSIS, is provided, along with steps that must be taken to apply these theories in comparing e-government sites. A report is included on Korea's electronic government policies during the Roh Moo-hyun administration. President Roh Moo-hyun was directly engaged as a developer in the e-government development team, designing document management and task management processes with experts. The fact that the president of a country directly participated in the development of the e-government system remains a rare case in the world. Additionally, citizens' behavior is investigated in conjunction with the role of "Citizen Service Centers" in e-government adoption in Greece, with the goal of contributing to the understanding of the users' motivations"--

Setting Sail into the Age of Digital Local Government by Tony E. Wohlers,Lynne Louise Bernier Pdf

The Internet and related technologies have dramatically changed the way we live, work, socialize, and even topple national governments. As the Internet becomes increasingly pervasive across societies, we find more often that governments adopt Information Communication Technologies (ICTs) as part of their toolbox for facilitating efficient and citizen-oriented service delivery at all levels of government. Local governments across the major industrialized democracies have not been an exception to this trend and have set sail into the age of digital government. Closest to their citizens, towns and cities have adopted ICTs to facilitate electronic government (e-government). While research on local e-government functionality in terms of information dissemination, service delivery, and citizen engagement continues at an impressive empirical and methodological pace, gaps in our knowledge remain. Cross-national comparative research on local e-government that covers a wide range of municipalities in combination with in-depth case study analyses is lacking. Informed by a comparative case study approach, this book seeks to narrow that gap and offer practical policy solutions to facilitate local e-government. We do so by pursuing both a macro and micro perspective of e-government functionality in the federal republics of Germany and the United States and unitary France and Japan. The macro perspective focuses on the state and scope of e-government functionality across a large number of randomly selected municipalities of all sizes in these advanced industrialized countries. Based on a small sample of case studies, the micro perspective analyzes the successful implementation of e-government in Seattle (United States), Nuremberg (Germany), Bordeaux (France), and Shizuoka City (Japan).

Practical Studies in E-Government by Saïd Assar,Imed Boughzala,Isabelle Boydens Pdf

Information and communication technology (ICT) is permeating all aspects of service management; in the public sector, ICT is improving the capacity of government agencies to provide a wide array of innovative services that benefit citizens. E-Government is emerging as a multidisciplinary field of research based initially on empirical insights from practice. Efforts to theoretically anchor the field have opened perspectives from multiple research domains, as demonstrated in Practical Studies in E-Government. In this volume, the editors and contributors consider the evolution of the e-government field from both practical and research perspectives. Featuring in-depth case studies of initiatives in eight countries, the book deals with such technology-oriented issues as interoperability, prototyping, data quality, and advanced interfaces, and management-oriented issues as e-procurement, e-identification, election results verification, and information privacy. The book features best practices, tools for measuring and improving performance, and analytical methods for researchers.
