Developing a Leadership Role Within the Key Stage 1 Curriculum by Julie A. Davies Pdf

Since 1989, initial teacher training courses in England and Wales have recognized the need for teachers to take a lead in a school subject area in their first appointment. There is no longer a place for a primary school teacher (newly qualified or not) whose sole responsibility is his or her own class. Further, a teacher must have specific specialist knowledge and expertise in particular subjects which must be disseminated to the rest of the staff. A teacher also needs to develop the skills of communication, leadership and persuasion.

EBOOK: Supporting ICT in the Early Years by John Siraj-Blatchford,David Whitebread Pdf

"This book is an excellent resource for gaining understanding about the fundamental principles of ICT in the Foundation Stage curriculum... [The] principles of good practice in this book will not be outdated by new products or trends. The book is a well-balanced blend of theory and application. It has certainly helped to provoke and resolve ideas about the use of ICT in our settings." - Nursery World This book helps readers understand how very young children (from birth to six) develop an early awareness, and subsequently develop their knowledge, skills and understandings of information and communication technologies (ICTs). The rapid growth of ICT has prompted concerns among parents, educators and policy-makers over the suitability of many educational applications, and electronic toys, for young children. However, evidence is presented to show that the use of ICT by young children is compatible with the principles of a developmentally appropriate curriculum (DAC). In fact the authors argue that used imaginatively, many applications of ICT can make a significant and unique contribution to children's social and cognitive development. This is a significant book for students, parents, carers, teachers, and other professionals who want to provide a rich learning environment in education, and in teaching and supervising research in the early years.

Primary Education at a Hinge of History by Colin Richards Pdf

Primary education is currently at the centre of political attention. Reform is constantly under consideration, though the leading proponents of reform are often far removed from the classroom and the world of hard-pressed, demoralised primary teachers. Colin Richards rectifies this by communicating the big picture of primary school culture. He takes the world of the primary school since Plowden (1967) and traces perennial and emergent issues - the issues that need to be understood in order to make a difference to the future of primary education. Through constructive criticism of the national curriculum, OFSTED, ITT and teaching methodology the book will influence and improve the understanding of policy makers, headteachers, governors and teachers and students.

Computers in the Primary Curriculum by Nigel Ellam,Jerry J. Wellington Pdf

The use of microcomputers in elementary education is described by focusing on an empirical study of computer use in a 10% random sample of elementary schools in one large local education authority. The inclusion of people at the "grass roots" level was considered to be a priority. Interviews of school-level administrators, teachers, and students were supplemented by first-hand observations of computer utilization. Results indicate that schools vary tremendously both in terms of the use to which they put computers and the effectiveness of computer applications in the classroom. In spite of the publicity and the rhetoric of politicians, generally speaking the introduction of the microcomputer has led to very few changes of any significance. Results of the study are presented in three sections: (1) facilities and fabric (factors relating to hardware, software, and school buildings); (2) human involvement (headteachers' and teachers' attitudes and opinions, inservice provision, and students' attitudes); and (3) organization and management (factors relating to school organization and classroom management of the microcomputer). Ethnographic data are presented throughout all three sections. A list of 10 recommendations for encouraging better microcomputer use concludes the report. (45 references) (GL)
