Concrete Repair, Rehabilitation and Retrofitting IV by Frank Dehn,Hans-Dieter Beushausen,Mark G Alexander,Pilate Moyo Pdf

The Fourth International Conference on Concrete Repair, Rehabilitation and Retrofitting (ICCRRR 2015) was held 5-7 October 2015 in Leipzig, Germany. This conference is a collaborative venture by researchers from the South African Research Programme in Concrete Materials (based at the Universities of Cape Town and The Witwatersrand) and the Material Science Group at Leipzig University and The Leipzig Institute for Materials Research and Testing (MFPA) in Germany. ICCRRR 2015 continues to seek and to extend a sound base of theory and practice in repair and rehabilitation, through both theoretical andexperimental studies, and through good case study literature. Two key aspects need to be addressed: that of developing sound and easily applied standard practices for repair, possibly codified, and the need to study seriously the service performance of repaired structures and repair systems. In fact, without making substantial efforts to implement the latter goal, much of the effort in repair and rehabilitation may prove to be less than economical or satisfactory. The conference proceedings contain papers presented at the conference which can be grouped under the six main themes of (i) Concrete durability aspects, (ii) Condition assessment of concrete structures, (iii) Modern materials technology, (iv) Concrete repair, rehabilitation and retrofitting, (v) Performance and health monitoring and (vi) Education, research and specifications. The large number of high quality papers presented and the wide range of relevant topics covered confirm that these proceedings will be a valued reference for many working in this important field and that they will form a suitable base for discussion and provide suggestions for future development and research. Set of book of abstracts (244 pp) and a searchable full paper CD-ROM (1054 pp).

Durability of Concrete by Mark Alexander,Arnon Bentur,Sidney Mindess Pdf

This book provides an up-to-date survey of durability issues, with a particular focus on specification and design, and how to achieve durability in actual concrete construction. It is aimed at the practising engineer, but is also a valuable resource for graduate-level programs in universities. Along with background to current philosophies it gathers together in one useful reference a summary of current knowledge on concrete durability, includes information on modern concrete materials, and shows how these materials can be combined to produce durable concrete. The approach is consistent with the increasing focus on sustainability that is being addressed by the concrete industry, with the current emphasis on ‘design for durability’.

Concrete Solutions by Michael Grantham Pdf

Concrete Solutions contains the contributions from some 30 countries to Concrete Solutions, the 6th International Conference on Concrete Repair (Thessaloniki, Greece, 20-23 June 2016). Strengthening and retrofitting are major themes in this volume, with NDT and electrochemical repair following closely, discussing the latest advances and technologies in concrete repair. The book brings together some interesting and challenging theoretical approaches and questions if we really understand and approach such topics as corrosion monitoring correctly. Concrete Solutions is an essential reference work for those working in the concrete repair field, from engineers to architects and from students to clients. The Concrete Solutions Series of international conferences on concrete repair began in 2003 with a conference held in St. Malo, France in association with INSA Rennes. Subsequent conferences have seen the Series partnering with the University of Padua (Italy) in 2009, with TU Dresden (Germany) in 2011 and with Queen’s University Belfast (Northern Ireland) in 2014. In 2016 Thessaloniki (Greece) hosted the conference, partnering with both Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) and Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH). The next conference in the series will be held in 2019 in Istanbul.

Failure, Distress and Repair of Concrete Structures by N Delatte Pdf

Understanding and recognising failure mechanisms in concrete is a fundamental pre-requisite to determining the type of repair, or whether a repair is feasible. This title provides a review of concrete deterioration and damage, as well as looking at the problem of defects in concrete. It also discusses condition assessment and repair techniques. Part one discusses failure mechanisms in concrete and covers topics such as causes and mechanisms of deterioration in reinforced concrete, types of damage in concrete structures, types and causes of cracking and condition assessment of concrete structures. Part two reviews the repair of concrete structures with coverage of themes such as standards and guidelines for repairing concrete structures, methods of crack repair, repair materials, bonded concrete overlays, repairing and retrofitting concrete structures with fiber-reinforced polymers, patching deteriorated concrete structures and durability of repaired concrete. With its distinguished editor and international team of contributors, Failure and repair of concrete structures is a standard reference for civil engineers, architects and anyone working in the construction sector, as well as those concerned with ensuring the safety of concrete structures. Provides a review of concrete deterioration and damage Discusses condition assessment and repair techniques, standards and guidelines

Corrosion of Steel in Concrete by John P. Broomfield Pdf

Corrosion of Steel in Concrete: Understanding, Investigation and Repair is a guide for designing, constructing and maintaining reinforced concrete structures, such as buildings and bridges which are subject to reinforcement corrosion. It presents the basics of theory and practice in steel corrosion in concrete and reviews the latest research and developments, such as progress on measuring the corrosion threshold for chloride-induced corrosion. This third edition compares the currently proliferating major national and international standards and guidance documents. New developments are considered, such as hybrid anodes for electrochemical treatment and the latest research and developments in assessment, such as the use of ground penetrating radar to measure the chloride content of the concrete cover. It overhauls coverage of electrochemical repair and rehabilitation techniques and outlines recent innovations in structural repair and construction and investigates their implications for durability. The book is ideal for practitioners and graduate students in structural engineering and concrete technology.

Durability of Engineering Structures by J Bijen Pdf

Civil engineering failures currently amount to 5 to 10 % of the total investment in new buildings and structures. These failures not only represent important cost considerations, they also have an environmental burden associated with them. Structures often deteriorate because not enough attention is given during the design stage and most standards for structural design do not cover design for service life. Designing for durability is often left to the structural designer or architect who may not have the necessary skills, and the result is all too often failure, incurring high maintenance and repair costs. Knowledge of the long-term behaviour of materials, building components and structures is the basis for avoiding these failures. Durability of engineering structures uses on the design of buildings for service life, effective maintenance and repair techniques in order to reduce the likelihood of failure. It describes the in situ performance of all the major man-made materials used in civil engineering construction - metals (steel and aluminium), concrete and wood. In addition some relatively new high-performance materials are discussed - high-performance concrete, high-performance steel and fibre-reinforced polymers (FRP). Deterioration mechanisms and the measures to counteract these, as well as subsequent maintenance and repair techniques are also considered and the latest standards on durability and repair are explained. Strategies for durability, maintenance and repair, including life cycle costing and environmental life cycle assessment methods are discussed. Finally practical case studies show how repairs can be made and the best ways of ensuring long term durability. This book is aimed at students in civil engineering, engineers, architects, contractors, plant managers, maintenance managers and inspection engineers. Explains the reasons why structures often deteriorate before they should because of poor design Shows how to design structures effectively for service life Considers durability characteristics of standard and high performance construction materials
