The Chanson d'Antioche by Dr Carol Sweetenham,Dr Susan B Edgington Pdf

The Old-French Chanson d'Antioche has long intrigued historians and literary scholars. Unusually among epic poems, it follows closely a well documented historical event – the First Crusade – and appears to include substantial and genuine historical content. At one time it was believed to be based on an account by an eye-witness, 'Richard the Pilgrim'. Carol Sweetenham and Susan Edgington have combined forces to investigate such claims, and their findings are set out in a comprehensive introduction which, firstly, examines the textual history of the poem from its possible oral beginnings through several re-workings to its present form, achieved early in the thirteenth century. A second chapter assesses the Chanson's value as a source for the crusade, and a third considers its status as a literary text. A complete prose translation follows, the first in English and based on the definitive edition. The Chanson is revealed as a lively narrative, with tales of chivalry, villainy, and even episodes of humour. There are extensive footnotes to the translation, and an appendix provides supplementary material from a different manuscript tradition. There is also a cast list of heroes and villains with biographical information for the 'real' ones and literary analogues for the fictional characters. The Chanson d'Antioche can now be read for enjoyment, and for a whole new perspective on crusading in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries.

"Luqman's commitment to his dreams and ideals are intense and boldly honest. His focus is on his search and discovery of universal truth. Here, he offers a glimpse into the reality that all answers come from within; and each man (person) must connect to his or her own spirit in honesty and with an open mind in order to hear them. Hollywood is a fantasy that, if we allow it, can distract from the great creative medium that is within all of us to build for ourselves. In the footsteps of Luqman, (moving in his own footsteps, as with each of us) lies even greater hope and truth." A Universe Too Far by B.R. Miller Pdf

Several years ago, the spaceship Genesis was sent out on Earth's first mission to other solar systems to seek out the possibility of life, and even intelligent life on other worlds. That mission did indeed find life to be abundant in the heavens, and the Genesis ship found itself in a great expanse of space with no heavenly bodies. They turned back, fearing they might be headed for a black hole. When I returned to Earth, the scientists were very puzzled. The scientists could not believe the presence of a void in that sector of space. The spaceship Gemini was built and launched to find an answer to that question. The Gemini did in fact prove the existence of that black void but then returned to Earth with many more questions than answers. Perhaps you may have an answer. This book effectively becomes a sequel to The Genesis Mission. Certain ideas put forth in Genesis left things unanswered. This book attempts to cover the possibilities that scientists would want answers to questions which arose in The Genesis Mission.

Through Rose Colored Glasses by David Leon Wilson, Jr. Pdf

‘Through Rose Colored Glasses: The Duality of America, Seen Through Post-Racial Eyes’ is a chronology of our publicized and not-so-publicized American story from the perspective of one that sees unity becoming our dominant nature and this nation living up to its true creed, “that all men are created equal”. We begin with the birth of a nation and its drive for sovereignty free of the tyranny of the old world methods of doing things. Yet while building this republic to the democracy it became, the founders and their successors professed one thing but lived absolutely another. The migrant settlers left from and broke away from motherlands that were oppressive and overbearing in a quest to be free, while at the same time, instituted a legacy of forced servitude called slavery that would haunt them for centuries. We progress through many attempts to get right grievous errors initiated in its infancy and how they failed miserably doing this in relation to the indigenous natives already here when they arrived and the ones that were brought here in slave ships from African lands. America possessed dual personalities that manifested themselves simultaneously while growing to develop into one identity that it wanted to portray to the world. We follow this through our present day circumstances and see the effects of this dual nature in relation to how we deal with each other. We also look at how we can find solutions to get us to that brighter tomorrow that we know America can be in a society based on true character and not false stereotypes.
