Evolutionary Algorithms, Swarm Dynamics and Complex Networks by Ivan Zelinka,Guanrong Chen Pdf

Evolutionary algorithms constitute a class of well-known algorithms, which are designed based on the Darwinian theory of evolution and Mendelian theory of heritage. They are partly based on random and partly based on deterministic principles. Due to this nature, it is challenging to predict and control its performance in solving complex nonlinear problems. Recently, the study of evolutionary dynamics is focused not only on the traditional investigations but also on the understanding and analyzing new principles, with the intention of controlling and utilizing their properties and performances toward more effective real-world applications. In this book, based on many years of intensive research of the authors, is proposing novel ideas about advancing evolutionary dynamics towards new phenomena including many new topics, even the dynamics of equivalent social networks. In fact, it includes more advanced complex networks and incorporates them with the CMLs (coupled map lattices), which are usually used for spatiotemporal complex systems simulation and analysis, based on the observation that chaos in CML can be controlled, so does evolution dynamics. All the chapter authors are, to the best of our knowledge, originators of the ideas mentioned above and researchers on evolutionary algorithms and chaotic dynamics as well as complex networks, who will provide benefits to the readers regarding modern scientific research on related subjects.

Optimization of Stochastic Discrete Systems and Control on Complex Networks by Dmitrii Lozovanu,Stefan Pickl Pdf

This book presents the latest findings on stochastic dynamic programming models and on solving optimal control problems in networks. It includes the authors’ new findings on determining the optimal solution of discrete optimal control problems in networks and on solving game variants of Markov decision problems in the context of computational networks. First, the book studies the finite state space of Markov processes and reviews the existing methods and algorithms for determining the main characteristics in Markov chains, before proposing new approaches based on dynamic programming and combinatorial methods. Chapter two is dedicated to infinite horizon stochastic discrete optimal control models and Markov decision problems with average and expected total discounted optimization criteria, while Chapter three develops a special game-theoretical approach to Markov decision processes and stochastic discrete optimal control problems. In closing, the book’s final chapter is devoted to finite horizon stochastic control problems and Markov decision processes. The algorithms developed represent a valuable contribution to the important field of computational network theory.

Propagation Dynamics on Complex Networks by Xinchu Fu,Michael Small,Guanrong Chen Pdf

Explores the emerging subject of epidemic dynamics on complex networks, including theories, methods, and real-world applications Throughout history epidemic diseases have presented a serious threat to human life, and in recent years the spread of infectious diseases such as dengue, malaria, HIV, and SARS has captured global attention; and in the modern technological age, the proliferation of virus attacks on the Internet highlights the emergent need for knowledge about modeling, analysis, and control in epidemic dynamics on complex networks. For advancement of techniques, it has become clear that more fundamental knowledge will be needed in mathematical and numerical context about how epidemic dynamical networks can be modelled, analyzed, and controlled. This book explores recent progress in these topics and looks at issues relating to various epidemic systems. Propagation Dynamics on Complex Networks covers most key topics in the field, and will provide a valuable resource for graduate students and researchers interested in network science and dynamical systems, and related interdisciplinary fields. Key Features: Includes a brief history of mathematical epidemiology and epidemic modeling on complex networks. Explores how information, opinion, and rumor spread via the Internet and social networks. Presents plausible models for propagation of SARS and avian influenza outbreaks, providing a reality check for otherwise abstract mathematical modeling. Considers various infectivity functions, including constant, piecewise-linear, saturated, and nonlinear cases. Examines information transmission on complex networks, and investigates the difference between information and epidemic spreading.

Robust Adaptive Control for Fractional-Order Systems with Disturbance and Saturation by Mou Chen,Shuyi Shao,Peng Shi Pdf

A treatise on investigating tracking control and synchronization control of fractional-order nonlinear systems with system uncertainties, external disturbance, and input saturation Robust Adaptive Control for Fractional-Order Systems, with Disturbance and Saturation provides the reader with a good understanding on how to achieve tracking control and synchronization control of fractional-order nonlinear systems with system uncertainties, external disturbance, and input saturation. Although some texts have touched upon control of fractional-order systems, the issues of input saturation and disturbances have rarely been considered together. This book offers chapter coverage of fractional calculus and fractional-order systems; fractional-order PID controller and fractional-order disturbance observer; design of fractional-order controllers for nonlinear chaotic systems and some applications; sliding mode control for fractional-order nonlinear systems based on disturbance observer; disturbance observer based neural control for an uncertain fractional-order rotational mechanical system; adaptive neural tracking control for uncertain fractional-order chaotic systems subject to input saturation and disturbance; stabilization control of continuous-time fractional positive systems based on disturbance observer; sliding mode synchronization control for fractional-order chaotic systems with disturbance; and more. Based on the approximation ability of the neural network (NN), the adaptive neural control schemes are reported for uncertain fractional-order nonlinear systems Covers the disturbance estimation techniques that have been developed to alleviate the restriction faced by traditional feedforward control and reject the effect of external disturbances for uncertain fractional-order nonlinear systems By combining the NN with the disturbance observer, the disturbance observer based adaptive neural control schemes have been studied for uncertain fractional-order nonlinear systems with unknown disturbances Considers, together, the issue of input saturation and the disturbance for the control of fractional-order nonlinear systems in the present of system uncertainty, external disturbance, and input saturation Robust Adaptive Control for Fractional-Order Systems, with Disturbance and Saturation can be used as a reference for the academic research on fractional-order nonlinear systems or used in Ph.D. study of control theory and engineering.

Controlling Synchronization Patterns in Complex Networks by Judith Lehnert Pdf

This research aims to achieve a fundamental understanding of synchronization and its interplay with the topology of complex networks. Synchronization is a ubiquitous phenomenon observed in different contexts in physics, chemistry, biology, medicine and engineering. Most prominently, synchronization takes place in the brain, where it is associated with several cognitive capacities but is - in abundance - a characteristic of neurological diseases. Besides zero-lag synchrony, group and cluster states are considered, enabling a description and study of complex synchronization patterns within the presented theory. Adaptive control methods are developed, which allow the control of synchronization in scenarios where parameters drift or are unknown. These methods are, therefore, of particular interest for experimental setups or technological applications. The theoretical framework is demonstrated on generic models, coupled chemical oscillators and several detailed examples of neural networks.

Nonlinear Pinning Control of Complex Dynamical Networks by Edgar N. Sanchez,Carlos J. Vega,Oscar J. Suarez,Guanrong Chen Pdf

This book presents two nonlinear control strategies for complex dynamical networks. First, sliding-mode control is used, and then the inverse optimal control approach is employed. For both cases, model-based is considered in Chapter 3 and Chapter 5; then, Chapter 4 and Chapter 6 are based on determining a model for the unknow system using a recurrent neural network, using on-line extended Kalman filtering for learning. The book is organized in four sections. The first one covers mathematical preliminaries, with a brief review for complex networks, and the pinning methodology. Additionally, sliding-mode control and inverse optimal control are introduced. Neural network structures are also discussed along with a description of the high-order ones. The second section presents the analysis and simulation results for sliding-mode control for identical as well as non-identical nodes. The third section describes analysis and simulation results for inverse optimal control considering identical or non-identical nodes. Finally, the last section presents applications of these schemes, using gene regulatory networks and microgrids as examples.
