Convective Heat and Mass Transfer by William Morrow Kays,Michael E. Crawford,Bernhard Weigand Pdf

The 4th edition of CHMT continues the trend, initiated with the 3rd ed., of encouraging the use of a numerically based, computational approach to solving convective heat and mass transfer problems. The book also continues its tradition of also providing classic problem solving approaches to this subject. This textbook presents a strong theoretical basis for convective heat and mass transfer by focusing on boundary layer theory. This new edition provides optional coverage of the software teaching tool TEXSTAN. This boundary layer computer program can be used to enhance the understanding of the relationship between the surface friction, heat, and mass transfer and their respective flow fields. TEXSTAN contains the data structure needed to describe and solve most convective problems encountered by senior and graduate level students. Other significant changes include: expanded chapter on convective heat transfer with body forces; reduced focus on heat exchanger theory; completely rewritten chapters on mass transfer to include more engineering examples for both low and high transfer rates, to provide the student with more insight to a seemingly difficult subject. Search for this book on EngineeringCS.com to find password-protected solutions to all chapter problems and additional information on TEXSTAN.

Modelling of Convective Heat and Mass Transfer in Rotating Flows by Igor V. Shevchuk Pdf

This monograph presents results of the analytical and numerical modeling of convective heat and mass transfer in different rotating flows caused by (i) system rotation, (ii) swirl flows due to swirl generators, and (iii) surface curvature in turns and bends. Volume forces (i.e. centrifugal and Coriolis forces), which influence the flow pattern, emerge in all of these rotating flows. The main part of this work deals with rotating flows caused by system rotation, which includes several rotating-disk configurations and straight pipes rotating about a parallel axis. Swirl flows are studied in some of the configurations mentioned above. Curvilinear flows are investigated in different geometries of two-pass ribbed and smooth channels with 180° bends. The author demonstrates that the complex phenomena of fluid flow and convective heat transfer in rotating flows can be successfully simulated using not only the universal CFD methodology, but in certain cases by means of the integral methods, self-similar and analytical solutions. The book will be a valuable read for research experts and practitioners in the field of heat and mass transfer.

Convective Heat and Mass Transfer in Rotating Disk Systems by Igor V. Shevchuk Pdf

The book is devoted to investigation of a series of problems of convective heat and mass transfer in rotating-disk systems. Such systems are widespread in scienti?c and engineering applications. As examples from the practical area, one can mention gas turbine and computer engineering, disk brakes of automobiles, rotating-disk air cleaners, systems of microclimate, extractors, dispensers of liquids, evaporators, c- cular saws, medical equipment, food process engineering, etc. Among the scienti?c applications, it is necessary to point out rotating-disk electrodes used for experim- tal determination of the diffusion coef?cient in electrolytes. The system consisting of a ?xed disk and a rotating cone that touches the disk by its vertex is widely used for measurement of the viscosity coef?cient of liquids. For time being, large volume of experimental and computational data on par- eters of ?uid ?ow, heat and mass transfer in different types of rotating-disk systems have been accumulated, and different theoretical approaches to their simulation have been developed. This obviously causes a need of systematization and generalization of these data in a book form.

Convective Heat Transfer by I. Pop,Derek B Ingham Pdf

Interest in studying the phenomena of convective heat and mass transfer between an ambient fluid and a body which is immersed in it stems both from fundamental considerations, such as the development of better insights into the nature of the underlying physical processes which take place, and from practical considerations, such as the fact that these idealised configurations serve as a launching pad for modelling the analogous transfer processes in more realistic physical systems. Such idealised geometries also provide a test ground for checking the validity of theoretical analyses. Consequently, an immense research effort has been expended in exploring and understanding the convective heat and mass transfer processes between a fluid and submerged objects of various shapes. Among several geometries which have received considerable attention are plates, circular and elliptical cylinders, and spheres, although much information is also available for some other bodies, such as corrugated surfaces or bodies of relatively complicated shapes. The book is a unified progress report which captures the spirit of the work in progress in boundary-layer heat transfer research and also identifies potential difficulties and areas for further study. In addition, this work provides new material on convective heat and mass transfer, as well as a fresh look at basic methods in heat transfer. Extensive references are included in order to stimulate further studies of the problems considered. A state-of-the-art picture of boundary-layer heat transfer today is presented by listing and commenting also upon the most recent successful efforts and identifying the needs for further research.

Free-Convective Heat Transfer by Oleg G. Martynenko,Pavel P. Khramtsov Pdf

Free Convective Heat Transfer is a thorough survey of various kinds of free-convective flows and heat transfer. Reference data are accompanied by a large number of photographs originating from different optical visualization methods illustrating the different types of flow. The formulas derived from numerical and analytical investigations are valuable tools for engineering calculations. They are written in their most compact and general form in order to allow for an extensive range of different variants of boundary and initial conditions, which, in turn, leads to a wide applicability to different flow types. Some specific engineering problems are solved in the book as exemplary applications of these formulas.

Heat and Mass Transfer by Rajendra Karwa Pdf

This textbook presents the classical treatment of the problems of heat transfer in an exhaustive manner with due emphasis on understanding of the physics of the problems. This emphasis will be especially visible in the chapters on convective heat transfer. Emphasis is also laid on the solution of steady and unsteady two-dimensional heat conduction problems. Another special feature of the book is a chapter on introduction to design of heat exchangers and their illustrative design problems. A simple and understandable treatment of gaseous radiation has been presented. A special chapter on flat plate solar air heater has been incorporated that covers mathematical modeling of the air heater. The chapter on mass transfer has been written looking specifically at the needs of the students of mechanical engineering. The book includes a large number and variety of solved problems with supporting line diagrams. A number of application-based examples have been incorporated where applicable. The end-of-chapter exercise problems are supplemented with stepwise answers. Though the book has been primarily designed to serve as a complete textbook for undergraduate and graduate students of mechanical engineering, it will also be useful for students of chemical, aerospace, automobile, production, and industrial engineering streams. The book fully covers the topics of heat transfer coursework and can also be used as an excellent reference for students preparing for competitive graduate examinations.

Convective Heat and Mass Transfer in Porous Media by Sadik Kakaç,Birol Kilkis,Frank A. Kulacki,Faruk Annç Pdf

The rapid growth of literature on convective heat and mass transfer through porous media has brought both engineering and fundamental knowledge to a new state of completeness and depth. Additionally, several new questions of fundamental merit have arisen in several areas which bear direct relation to further advancement of basic knowledge and applications in this field. For example, the growth of fundamental heat transfer data and correlations for engineering use for saturated media has now reached the point where the relations for heat transfer coefficients and flow parameters are known well enough for design purposes. Multiple flow field regimes in natural convection have been identified in several important enclosure geometries. New questions have arisen on the nature of equations being used in theoretical studies, i. e. , the Validity of Darcy assumption is being brought into question; Wall effects in high and low velocity flow fields have been found to play a role in predicting transport coefficients; The formulation of transport problems in fractured media are being investigated as both an extension of those in a homogeneous medium and for application in engineering systems in geologic media and problems on saturated media are being addressed to determine their proper formulation and solution. The long standing problem of how to adequately formulate and solve problems of multi-phase heat and mass transfer in heterogeneous media is important in the technologies of chemical reactor engineering and enhanced oil recovery.
