How Things Count as the Same by Adam B. Seligman,Robert Paul Weller Pdf

In their third book together, Adam B. Seligman and Robert P. Weller address a seemingly simple question: What counts as the same? Given the myriad differences that divide one individual from another, why do we recognize anyone as somehow sharing a common fate with us? For that matter, how do we live in harmony with groups who may not share the sense of a common fate? Such relationships lie at the heart of the problems of pluralism that increasingly face so much of the world today. Note that "counting as" the same differs from "being" the same. Counting as the same is not an empirical question about how much or how little one person shares with another or one event shares with a previous event. Nothing is actually the same. That is why, as humans, we construct sameness all the time. In the process, of course, we also construct difference. Creating sameness and difference leaves us with the perennial problem of how to live with difference instead of seeing it as a threat. How Things Count as the Same suggests that there are multiple ways in which we can count things as the same, and that each of them fosters different kinds of group dynamics and different sets of benefits and risks for the creation of plural societies. While there might be many ways to understand how people construct sameness, three stand out as especially important and form the focus of the book's analysis: Memory, Mimesis, and Metaphor.

Counting All Things Loss on Account of Christ by Witness Lee Pdf

Philippians 3:7-8 says, “But what things were gains to me, these I have counted loss on account of Christ. But surely I count also all things to be loss on account of the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, on account of whom I have suffered the loss of all things and count them refuse that I may gain Christ.” In this booklet compiled from Life-study of Philippians, Witness Lee offers a deeper view of these verses. “Many of us have known Philippians 3:7 and 8 for years, and we are very familiar with these verses. However, we probably have not touched the depths of this part of chapter three. Without this, we cannot be initiated into the genuine experience of Christ. You may have heard many messages on how Paul counted all things loss on account of Christ and on account of the excellency of the knowledge of Christ. But has knowing these verses in an objective way brought you into the real experience of Christ? I believe that, if we are honest, we shall have to admit that we have not experienced Christ according to these verses. The reason for this lack of experience is that, until now, we have not probed into the depths of Paul’s thought in this portion of the Word.”

Rich in the Things That Count the Most by Rev. James W. Moore Pdf

While we may or may not be wealthy when it comes to material things, James W. Moore says, every one of us can be rich in the things that count the most. True happiness, fulfillment, and wealth come from knowing that God is with us, and from being grateful for all of the blessings God has given us. Through Scripture and compelling stories of faith, Moore invites us to explore the real riches in our lives, those things “that will last and endure, that won’t rust or corrode or become boring or go out of style.” Each chapter of the book features a key passage of Scripture and focuses on a key theme. A study guide is included. Chapter titles include “Rich in the Scriptures”; “Rich in Soul”; “Rich in Church”; “Rich in the Power of Life-Changing Words”; “Rich in Christian Freedom”; “Rich in Gratitude”; “Rich in Generosity”; “Rich in Friendship”; “Rich in Real Life”; “Rich in ‘Because Of’ Faith”; “Rich in Mind, Body, and Spirit”; “Rich in the Risen Christ”; “Rich in Easter Faith”; and “Rich in Commitment to Christ.” JAMES W. MOORE, popular speaker and preacher, is the author of Yes, Lord, I Have Sinned, But I Have Several Excellent Excuses; God Was Here and I Was Out to Lunch; When Grief Breaks Your Heart; There's a Hole in Your Soul That Only God Can Fill; and many other books. He and his wife, June, live in Fairview, Texas.
