Rare Courage by Rod Mickleburgh,Rudyard Griffiths Pdf

An astonishing collection of compelling and vivid wartime memories. As Canada’s tens of thousands of veterans of the Second World War increasingly fall victim to the ravages of time, their personal stories become more and more vital to our understanding of what happened in those pivotal years. In Rare Courage, twenty Canadian veterans candidly describe their experiences in their own words, combined with more than eighty photographs and artifacts from the Dominion Institute and the veterans’ personal collections. Rare Courage takes readers to the sinking of the Bismarck and to the bloody beaches of Normandy. It describes the poignant search of a Jewish nurse for survivors of the Holocaust and chilling tales of shot-down airmen on the run in occupied Europe. Many of the stories shed light on little-known aspects of the war: Did you know that almost all the pioneering radar officers on British warships were Canadians? Or that a Canadian major-league baseball star ended up a prisoner in Stalag Luft 13? This is not dry, academic history, but a book that breathes with vivid details. Rare Courage celebrates the heroism and remembers the horror of the Second World War.

Courage by James A. Beers Pdf

“The Church opposes any unjust treatment of homosexual persons, insisting on their equal dignity before God and firmly correcting anyone who in any way ridicules homosexual persons. It is also the duty of the Church in every diocese to provide adequate pastoral programs to help homosexual men and women live the Gospel to the full.” Father John F. Harvey Founder of Courage For more than thirty years, Courage has been helping same-sex-attracted Catholic men and women to lead chaste lives. This book will relate not just the history of the apostolate but how and why it was founded. It will introduce readers to the numerous souls whose lives were changed by following the goals of Courage and who found peace, understanding, and joy in choosing a life of chastity. This book is an attempt to tell the story of Courage from the point of view of a member. Founded in 1980 in New York, Courage has grown into an international organization. Yet its very existence seems to defy the tide of the popular culture. In spite of pressure on all sides and even from inside the Church, Courage continues to stress the traditional teachings of the Church. While society’s attitudes toward sexuality have changed, the teachings of the Church have not. It is possible that of all the Church’s teachings, none has been more distorted and misunderstood than the teaching regarding human sexuality. Yet the Church could not be more clear: all of us, homosexual and heterosexual, are called to be chaste.

Courage Won by Tru2type Pdf

Courage achieves the American dream, when she was least ready for the problems and responsibilities that came with it. This book details her trials and tribulations. The book tells about her experiences as a Landlord, in a big city like New York City. The author writes about the process of buying and running a house with tenants, the problems associated with such tenants and the legal challenges along the way. In the book, the author writes about two fraudulent people who try to steal the house right from under her using the legal system. The book will help both current and future landlords avoid this pitfall. The book is also about the triumph of human courage. The heroine of the book, Courage, has the temerity to stand up to the fraudulent people whose main objective is to steal her house, her American dream. She also stands up against a might multi-national financial corporation collaborating (so it seems) with the two fraudulent people trying to steal her house. Though she looses money, personal items and her good credit in the process, she hangs in there because she believes in herself. She discovers that getting justice in this country means having lots of money to buy attorney's time. When some attorneys give her, very bad legal advice, the heroine of the book stands her ground. She fires them and takes matters into her own hands. The events in the book show that courage both as human or a virtue always wins.

Courage to Remember by Kinue Tokudome Pdf

The Holocaust was an attempt to erase those considered undesirable by the Nazi state from history, and thus remembering the Holocaust is essential if the Nazis are to remain defeated. This book introduces those people who are trying to make the world remember the Holocaust and the lesson it has taught. Tokudome focuses on each person -- their background, accomplishments, beliefs and hopes -- rather than on the events surrounding their activities. In writing this book, she hopes that readers will understand the significance of the Holocaust in human history by getting to know the people who are keeping the memory alive.

The Mystery of Courage by William Ian Miller Pdf

Few of us spend much time thinking about courage, but we know it when we see it--or do we? Is it best displayed by marching into danger, making the charge, or by resisting, enduring without complaint? Is it physical or moral, or both? Is it fearless, or does it involve subduing fear? Abner Small, a Civil War soldier, was puzzled by what he called the "mystery of bravery"; to him, courage and cowardice seemed strangely divorced from character and will. It is this mystery, just as puzzling in our day, that William Ian Miller unravels in this engrossing meditation. Miller culls sources as varied as soldiers' memoirs, heroic and romantic literature, and philosophical discussions to get to the heart of courage--and to expose its role in generating the central anxieties of masculinity and manhood. He probes the link between courage and fear, and explores the connection between bravery and seemingly related states: rashness, stubbornness, madness, cruelty, fury; pride and fear of disgrace; and the authority and experience that minimize fear. By turns witty and moving, inquisitive and critical, his inquiry takes us from ancient Greece to medieval Europe, to the American Civil War, to the Great War and Vietnam, with sidetrips to the schoolyard, the bedroom, and the restaurant. Whether consulting Aristotle or private soldiers, Miller elicits consistently compelling insights into a condition as endlessly interesting as it is elusive.

Defiant Courage by Astrid Karlsen Scott,Tore Haug Pdf

The incredible true story of one man’s escape from Nazis in Norway. “I remember reading We Die Alone in 1970 and I could never forget it. Then when we went to Norway to do a docudrama, people told us again and again that certain parts were pure fiction. Since I was a Norwegian that was not good enough; I had to find the truth. I sincerely believe we did,” writes author Astrid Karlsen Scott. Defiant Courage is the true story of what Jan Baalsrud endured as he tried to escape from the Gestapo in Norway’s Troms District. In late March 1943, in the midst of WWII, four Norwegian saboteurs arrived in northern Norway on a fishing cutter and set anchor in Toftefjord to establish a base for their operations. However, they were betrayed, and a German boat attacked the cutter, creating a battlefield and spiraling Jan Baalsrud into the adventure of his life. The only survivor, a wounded Baalsrud begins a perilous journey to freedom, swimming icy fjords, climbing snow-covered peaks, enduring snowstorms, and getting caught in a monstrous avalanche. More than sixty people of the Troms District risk their lives to help Baalsrud, suffering from snow blindness and frostbite, to freedom. Meticulously researched for more than five years, Karlsen Scott and Haug bring forth the truth behind this captivating, edge-of-your-seat, real-life survival story. Skyhorse Publishing, along with our Arcade, Good Books, Sports Publishing, and Yucca imprints, is proud to publish a broad range of biographies, autobiographies, and memoirs. JFK's Ghost by David R. Stokes Pdf

“I’d rather win a Pulitzer Prize than be President of the United States,” John F. Kennedy confided to author Margaret Coit shortly after his election to the Senate in 1953. Kennedy got his wish four years later, when his book Profiles in Courage was awarded the Pulitzer for biography—even though it wasn’t among the finalists for the prize. Furthermore, the role of Ted Sorensen in drafting the main chapters in the book was never acknowledged by Kennedy’s inner circle, and Kennedy himself was hyper-sensitive until his dying day about rumors that cast doubt on his ownership of Profiles in Courage. Still, Jack Kennedy the writer is part of the Kennedy narrative that helped propel his political career. And he did indeed work for a time as a journalist, and brought a measures of erudition, wit, and charm to his speeches. But if the rumors surrounding authorship of Profiles in Courage were proven to be true prior to his ascendance to the Presidency, there might have been no brief and shining moment in America called Camelot.

Fields Of Courage by Max Davidson Pdf

The history of sport is littered with tales of exemplary courage: sportsmen and women pushing their bodies through the pain barrier, or defying career-threatening injuries, in quest of victory. From the goalkeeper who played in a FA Cup Final with a broken neck to the batsman who saved a Test match with his arm in plaster, their heroics have inspired generations of schoolchildren. But courage is as much a moral as a physical attribute. Some of the most inspiring chapters in sport feature men and women of principle who have challenged authority, fought prejudice or simply had the guts to confess to weaknesses that went against the grain of their profession. Ben Hogan, Jackie Robinson, Marcus Trescothick, Billie-Jean King, Eric Lidell . . . Max Davidson's cavalcade of sporting heroism celebrates virtues that transcend winning and losing -- and explains why sport at its best is so inspirational.

Mannock by Norman Franks,Andy Saunders Pdf

The definitive biography of the WWI fighter pilot Edward “Mick” Mannock—and a revealing investigation into his mysterious fate. Although he was arguably the highest scoring RAF fighter pilot of the First World War, Edward “Mick” Mannock’s life, particularly his death, is still shrouded in mystery. Did he achieve as many victories as are sometimes ascribed to him? How did he die? Where did he die? And more pertinently, where do his remains now lie? Having unearthed much new and enlightening information, they present a truly balanced overview of his life—and also reveal for the first time exactly where he fell in battle a century ago.
