Cricket Commentary & Commentators by Ravi Chaturvedi Pdf

I have been handed the new ball and asked to bowl the opening spell in this book of Cricket Commentary and Commentators. It was always my ambition to play Test cricket for India, but I was allergic to grass. A pity because I would have been the silliest mid-on to have played Test cricket. My long leg would have been a sensation. There have never been swingers to match mine. I used to be such an agile fielder that a piece of music 'Third Man Theme' was composed as a tribute On the serious side, as a commentator, I was always fascinated by how cricket commentary began. While the journey of cricket commentary is fairly well-recorded in Australia and England, the information on the subject in other eight Test playing countries is scanty. This book - Cricket Commentary & Commentators - is a humble attempt to weave together threads scattered in different areas and diverse directions. The scope of the book has been enlarged to include not just commentators but even anchors, presenters, scorers and statisticians while making it a compendium on commentary. With these opening remarks, I urge you, the reader, to move forward.

Over But Not Out by Richie Benaud Pdf

Few people understand cricket as well as Richie Benaud. For sixty years, as player and commentator, he has set the standards for others to follow and has witnessed all the major events in the game. No one else has found such favour with the vast numbers of cricket lovers in both Britain and Australia. A high-class attacking batsman and masterful legspin bowler, he captained Australia in 28 of his 63 Tests, regaining the Ashes in 1958-59 and taking part in both Laker's match in 1956 and the Tied Test in 1960. His television career, which began in 1963 while he was still a Test player, has coincided with a period of astonishing change - in the way the game is played, with the increasing popularity of the shorter formats, and in the way it is broadcast, with the innovations that began with World Series Cricket. In Over But Not Out, Richie Benaud has added extensive new material to his acclaimed Anything but . . . an Autobiography in order to cover the years since its publication; he not only revisits his long and remarkable career but also casts his eye over cricket in the 21st century. He gives his distinctive take on series such as the 2005 and 2009 Ashes and contemplates the future of the game he loves, revealing strong and sometimes surprising opinions on Twenty20, day-night games, technology, referral systems, no-balls, neutral umpires and match-fixing. Packed with stories and illuminated by his characteristic incisiveness and independent-minded good sense, Over But Not Out is required reading for all followers of the game.

Bringing together leading international writers on cricket and society, this important new book places cricket in the postcolonial life of the major Test-playing countries. Exploring the culture, politics, governance and economics of cricket in the twenty-first century, this book dispels the age-old idea of a gentle game played on England's village greens. This is an original political and historical study of the game's development in a range of countries and covers: * cricket in the new Commonwealth: Sri Lanka, Pakistan, the Caribbean and India * the cricket cultures of Australia, New Zealand and post-apartheid South Africa * cricket in England since the 1950s. This new book is ideal for students of sport, politics, history and postcolonialism as it provides stimulating and comprehensive discussions of the major issues including race, migration, gobalization, neoliberal economics, the media, religion and sectarianism.

A Delicious Slice Of Johnners by Brian Johnston Pdf

Following Brian Johnston's death in 1994, Prime Minister John Major appeared to speak for the nation when he remarked that 'Summers will never be the same.' To an Englishman's ears, the sound of leather against willow will always be closely associated with the cheerful tones of Johnners. Brian Johnston was a man who admitted: 'I have this absurd hankering to make people laugh.' He also summed up his books as 'the meanderings of a remarkably happy and lucky person, to whom life, like cricket, is a funny game and still a lot of fun.' Lovingly edited by his eldest son, Barry, A Delicious Slice of Johnners is a wonderfully enjoyable compendium of three of Johnners' best loved books, the autobiographies It's Been a Lot of Fun and It's a Funny Game, and Rain Stops Play

Easier Said Than Done: A Life in Sport by Alan Wilkins Pdf

Turning adversity on its head he embarked upon a career in broadcasting that began in South Africa with the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), before returning to Cardiff in September 1987 to anchor BBC Wales’ portfolio of prime time sports programs. By the mid-1990s Alan had gone freelance and, following the end of apartheid, was reunited with the SABC to cover South Africa’s return to world sport with the 1994 cricket tour to England and the 1995 Rugby World Cup. He also began what would become a long association with Singapore-based ESPN Star Sports (ESS) by commentating on the 1996 Indian cricket tour of England. By 1997 Alan had joined the ESS commentary team in India for the One Day International series between India and Sri Lanka where he was part of the commentary team, with Ravi Shastri, Sunil Gavaskar, Navjot Singh Sidhu, Harsha Bhogle and Geoffrey Boycott, otherwise known as A Few Good Men. In February 2000 he re-located to Singapore to work for ESS and for almost 16 years enjoyed broadcasting cricket, golf, rugby, tennis and a host of other sports across the Indian sub-continent. A return home to Wales in 2015 has reignited Alan’s love for rugby but as you’ll read in Easier Said Than Done, his love of sport means the shape or size of the ball is not an issue.
