Cross-Border Investing by Julia Djarova Pdf

Cross-Border Investing: The Case of Central and Eastern Europe offers a view that reflects two main hypotheses: -You cannot understand foreign direct investment (FDI) trends and developments unless you understand the company's motives to invest, -You cannot understand a company's cross-border investment decision-making unless you understand what the investment area offers. This is the reason why this text builds up a relationship between the world of companies' decision-makers and that of the policy makers in the public sector. It does so by linking the business processes to the factors that together constitute the location profile of a country or a region. Based on more than 15 years of practical experience as well as research in the field of FDI, Dr Julia Djarova offers a Cross-Border Investment Model to describe the logic behind the decision-making process concerning foreign investments made by companies. The model is illustrated by a number of case studies of multinationals.

Managing Culture and Interspace in Cross-border Investments by Martina Fuchs,Sebastian Henn,Martin Franz,Ram Mudambi Pdf

This book focuses on the dialectics between spatio-organisational gaps and local contexts that characterise cross-border investments. "Interspatial" investments – be it mergers & acquisitions (M&A) or greenfield investments – are usually characterised by what is referred to as "otherness", i.e. organisational and cultural distances of the firms involved in relation to their regional contexts. At the same time, economic, political and socio-cultural linkages are decisive for attracting cross-border investments to regions and for providing firms with conditions supportive of their market success. As a consequence of being locked into complex structures of proximities, cross-border investments are situated in contested terrain. This terrain triggers learning processes in both regional actors and investors, which can result in the convergence of mindsets and organisational issues. This book is unique in that it combines interspace (defined as the distance between the new owner and the cross-border venture), place (the target region), interpretation (perception and understanding of the investment by the actors involved) and context (institutions, actor networks and interaction), thus offering better understanding of recent processes of globalisation. Crossing disciplinary boundaries by integrating economic geography and management studies, the volume adopts an innovative and spatially informed perspective on foreign direct investments (FDI). This perspective will be of great value to scholars, students and practitioners. The volume is inventive in its approach in that it offers fresh readings from interdisciplinary theoretical approaches and combines these with valuable empirical insights from developed as well as Emerging Economies.

Hortense Tarrade analyses over 200,000 venture capital (VC) investments over the past 20 years to understand the investors' motivation to select national or foreign companies into their portfolio. Further, she provides an in-depth analysis of the role of geographic and cultural distance in investments by German VCs ("Why do VC firms invest in a target location rather than another?").

Taxation of Income from Domestic and Cross-border Collective Investment by Andreas Oestreicher,Markus Hammer Pdf

The Fund Reporting Cloud® has made tax reporting less complex, but comparing the effective tax treatment of investment funds and their investors in an international environment is still an ambitious task. Against this background, this study examines the tax consequences at fund, asset, and investor level. In geographical terms our comparison covers eleven European countries, the USA, and Japan. Our analysis of the relevant tax provisions, which is of a primarily qualitative nature, is complemented by a quantitative comparison of the tax burden for a model investor investing assets nationally in the form of a collective investment. It will be of interest both for investors seeking tax advantages and for governments to check whether there is a need for tax reforms. It also ties in perfectly with the current evaluations at OECD level in the context of TRACE.

Impediments to Cross-border Investments in Asian Bonds by Douglas Arner,Paul Lejot,S. Ghon Rhee Pdf

Following the Asian financial crisis, the development of local currency bond markets in each of the APEC economies as well as regional bond markets has received the highest priority among financial market policy-makers. Bond markets are considered as an alternative vehicle for domestic savings mobilization and also as a critical means of mitigating the dual mismatch problems of currency and maturity. However, tangible achievements have yet to materialize. The appeal of Asian bonds as evidenced by cross-border investments is dismally insignificant. Given the limited level of market activities associated with foreign investment in Asian bonds and with the supply of local currency or foreign currency denominated bonds issued by foreign borrowers in Asia, this study is designed to identify the types of impediments to cross-border investment in Asian bonds and to propose policy recommendations.

Cross-Border Investment Withholding Tax by Ross K. McGill Pdf

This book provides a clear and concise explanation of withholding tax and how to leverage best practice to generate improved investment performance. It gives practical guidance to financial service firms and investors to help them understand the issues involved, trends and practicalities of maximizing returns on investment. Most of the $200 billion of withholding tax lost by investors annually is due to lack of awareness and not asking the right questions of their brokers and custodian banks. Financial institutions are also increasingly being held to a higher standard by investors for provision of withholding tax services because of the impact it can have on portfolio performance. This book seeks to raise awareness of the issues and provide more detail about how the system works and what challenges and changes readers should expect in the future. Ross K. McGill is a well-known author of nine books on international withholding tax and associated regulation as well as anti-tax evasion frameworks (GATCA). McGill sits on several international tax related committees including ISO20022 Securities Evaluation Group. He was an Expert Witness to the European Commission FISCO Group in 2012 and a member of, and editor of, the European Commission Tax Barriers Business Advisory Group Report on in 2013. .
