The Age of Responsibility by Wayne Visser Pdf

This landmark book shows how the old model of corporate sustainability and responsibility is being replaced by a second generation movement that goes beyond the outmoded approach of CSR as philanthropy or public relations concern to a more authentic, stakeholder-driven model. The author describes the new concept and mission of the new movement and explains its agenda in a succinct guide that will be useful for CSR professionals, including managers, consultants, academics, and non-governmental organizations.

CSR 2.0 by Wayne Visser Pdf

The book examines the evolution and current state of corporate social responsibility (CSR), using a five-stage maturity model: defensive, charitable, promotional, strategic and transformative CSR. The first four stages are dubbed CSR 1.0 and characterise most current CSR practice, while the fifth stage is named CSR 2.0 (also transformative or systemic CSR) and describes emergent and future CSR practices. Reasons are given why CSR 1.0 approaches have failed to have any significant impact on the most serious global social, environmental and ethical challenges. The emergent CSR 2.0 will then be explored in detail by elaborating on five principles underlying the new approach, including: creativity, scalability, responsiveness, glocality and circularity. A four-part DNA Model is also introduced, covering value creation, good governance, societal contribution and ecological integrity, which provides the basis for defining and measuring CSR 2.0. Finally, a 70-question CSR 2.0 self-assessment diagnostic tool developed by the author is presented, with sample data to show how the tool can be used for future research and practitioner application.

The Painlevé Handbook by Robert M. Conte,Micheline Musette Pdf

Nonlinear differential or difference equations are encountered not only in mathematics, but also in many areas of physics (evolution equations, propagation of a signal in an optical fiber), chemistry (reaction-diffusion systems), and biology (competition of species). This book introduces the reader to methods allowing one to build explicit solutions to these equations. A prerequisite task is to investigate whether the chances of success are high or low, and this can be achieved without any a priori knowledge of the solutions, with a powerful algorithm presented in detail called the Painlevé test. If the equation under study passes the Painlevé test, the equation is presumed integrable. If on the contrary the test fails, the system is nonintegrable or even chaotic, but it may still be possible to find solutions. The examples chosen to illustrate these methods are mostly taken from physics. These include on the integrable side the nonlinear Schrödinger equation (continuous and discrete), the Korteweg-de Vries equation, the Hénon-Heiles Hamiltonians, on the nonintegrable side the complex Ginzburg-Landau equation (encountered in optical fibers, turbulence, etc), the Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equation (phase turbulence), the Kolmogorov-Petrovski-Piskunov equation (KPP, a reaction-diffusion model), the Lorenz model of atmospheric circulation and the Bianchi IX cosmological model. Written at a graduate level, the book contains tutorial text as well as detailed examples and the state of the art on some current research.

Vertical Reference Systems by Hermann Drewes,Alan H. Dodson,Luiz P.S. Fortes,Laura Sanchez,Pedro Sandoval Pdf

The Symposium on Vertical Reference Systems (VeReS) was initiated on the occasion of the XXII General Assembly of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG), Birmingham 1999, by Professor Dr. Wolfgang Torge, Past President of the International Association of Geodesy (lAG) and representative of lAG to the Pan-American Institute of Geography and History (PAIGH). The idea was to organise another joint symposium of lAG and PAIGH like the previous one held during the XX IUGG General Assembly at Vienna, Austria, in 1991. Good reasons for such a joint symposium were the great success and the ongoing activities of the Project on the South American Geocentric Reference System (Sistema de Referencia Geocentrico para America del Sur, SIRGAS) being sponsored by lAG and PAIGH since 1993. The SIR GAS Project (Working Group I) had presented a continental South American reference frame of 58 stations during the lAG Scientific Assembly at Rio de Janeiro, in 1997. This reference frame was already adopted by several South American countries as the basis for their new national horizontal geodetic datums (SIRGAS Working Group II). To overcome the problems of the heterogeneous vertical (height) datums between the individual countries, SIRGAS had installed its Working Group III "Vertical Datum" in 1997. As the discussion on the unification of vertical reference systems is also going on in lAG and other bodies of science and practice, it was decided to dedicate the symposium to this topic.

Person-Centered Methods by Mark Stemmler Pdf

This book takes an easy-to-understand look at the statistical approach called the person-centered method. Instead of analyzing means, variances and covariances of scale scores as in the common variable-centered approach, the person-centered approach analyzes persons or objects grouped according to their characteristic patterns or configurations in contingency tables. The main focus of the book will be on Configural Frequency Analysis (CFA; Lienert and Krauth, 1975) which is a statistical method that looks for over and under-frequented cells or patterns. Over frequented means that the observations in this cell or configuration are observed more often than expected, under-frequented means that this cell or configuration is observed less often than expected. In CFA a pattern or configuration that contains more observed cases than expected is called a type; similarly, a pattern or configuration that is less observed than expected are called an antitype. CFA is similar to log-linear modeling. In log-linear modeling the goal is to come up with a fitting model including all important variables. Instead of fitting a model, CFA looks at the significant residuals of a log-linear model. The book describes the use of an R-package called confreq (derived from Configural Frequency Analysis). The use of the software package is described and demonstrated with data examples.

Dynamics and Optimal Control of Road Vehicles by D. J. N. Limebeer,Matteo Massaro Pdf

Dynamics and Optimal Control of Road Vehicles uniquely offers a unified treatment of tyre, car and motorcycle dynamics, and the application of nonlinear optimal control to vehicle-related problems within a single book. This is a comprehensive and accessible text that emphasises the theoretical aspects of vehicular modelling and control. The book focuses on two major elements. The first is classical mechanics and its use in building vehicle and tyre dynamics models. The second focus is nonlinear optimal control, which is used to solve a range of minimum-time and minimum-fuel, as well as track curvature reconstruction problems. As is known classically, all of this material is bound together by the calculus of variations and stationary principles. The treatment of this material is supplemented with a number of examples that were designed to highlight obscurities and subtleties in the theory.

Corporate Social Responsibility in Europe by Samuel O. Idowu,René Schmidpeter,Matthias S. Fifka Pdf

This book explores the current state of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in 24 European nations, examining the state of the development and practice of CSR and sustainability for organizations in these countries. The common denominator for all of the book’s 25 chapters is a management perspective rather than an ethical discourse. The book therefore represents a comprehensive survey of initiatives and activities in the field of CSR and provides a wealth of complete cases and examples for different approaches to sustainable and responsible management practice. The book also reviews the relevant political and governmental guidelines and frameworks for organizations, both on a national and a European level. Europe has taken a leading role in the promotion and implementation of CSR. This book showcases how, through CSR, enterprises can significantly contribute to achieving the European Union’s treaty objectives of sustainable development and a highly competitive social market economy.

Corporate Sustainability and Responsibility in Tourism by Dagmar Lund-Durlacher,Valentina Dinica,Dirk Reiser,Matthias S. Fifka Pdf

This book offers essential insights into how the world's second largest industry, tourism, is responding to challenges involved in expanding the corporate social responsibility (CSR) concept to corporate sustainability and responsibility, referred to as CSR 2.0. It analyzes the typical setup of tourism with various types of commercial agents: corporations, small and medium sized enterprises, public-private partnerships, social enterprises and local cooperatives. In addition, the book examines a broad range of voluntary initiatives, the effectiveness of these efforts, and how contextual and wider policy features shape these relationships. The book is divided into three parts, the first of which elaborates on strategic drivers and rationales for CSR. In turn, the second part introduces readers to design approaches for CSR programs and envisaged impacts, while part three focuses on implementation, certification, reporting, and possible outcomes. Each part offers a mixture of theoretical perspectives, synthesis analyses and case studies. The respective chapters tackle a broad spectrum of tourism sub-sectors, e.g. the cruise industry, aviation, gastronomy, nature-based tourism, and urban destinations.

Adapting and Mitigating Environmental, Social, and Governance Risk in Business by Ziolo, Magdalena Pdf

Environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) risk considers the nonfinancial risks that could arise in a business, such as sustainability, brand reputation, legal aspects, ethics, and more. As businesses all have their own risk profiles, there is a need for risk management and mitigation that is unique for each company. Because of this variability, the study on ESG risk factors and motives of incorporating the ESG perspective into business models are crucial yet challenging. Therefore, it is important to understand how companies are adapting and mitigating ESG risk in diverse types of businesses. Adapting and Mitigating Environmental, Social, and Governance Risk in Business examines processes in enterprises that can increase the sustainability of business models and their coherence with the assumptions of the concept of sustainable development and ESG risk. Furthermore, the book explores how enterprises operating in different sectors are adapting their business models towards sustainability in order to create sustainable value. This book is a valuable tool for managers, executives, entrepreneurs, practitioners, academicians, researchers, and graduate students in finance, business, and management.
