Current Distributions and Electrode Shape Changes in Electrochemical Systems by Johan Deconinck Pdf

This book reponds to the increasing demand of computer mo- delling of electrochemical processes in order to improve their speed and efficiency. The fundamental transport equa- tions in dilute solutions are given and it is established in detail under what circumstances a potential model with non- linear boundary conditions, involved by electrode reactions, can beused. Attention is directed towards the most impor- tant solution techniquesFEM, FDM and BEM and towards the solution of the non-linear system of equations (Successive Substitution, Newton-Raphson). Using the BEM, several two- dimensional and axisymmetrical examples of current density distributions are given and quantitative data, obtained in a copper electro-refining cell, are compared with calculated results. Applying Faraday's Law and the BEM, simulation of electro-deposition, electro-chemical levelling and machining are treated. Accuracy and stabilityare emphasized.

Advanced Machining Science by Vijay Kumar Jain Pdf

As machining processes become more advanced, so does the science behind them. This book emphasizes these scientific developments in addition to the more widely covered technological aspects, providing a full understanding of how machining has adapted to material constraints and moved beyond conventional methods in recent years. Numerous processes have been developed to allow the use of increasingly tough, corrosion-resistant, and temperature-resistant materials in machining. The advanced machining processes covered in this book range from mechanical, thermoelectric, and electrochemical, including abrasive water jet machining, electric discharge machining and micromachining, ion beam machining, and hybrid processes. It also addresses the sustainability issues raised by these processes. The underlying science of machining is centered throughout, as none of these processes can reach their full potential without both technical expertise and scientific understanding. Advanced Machining Science and its scientific approach will be of particular interest to students, researchers, and shop floor engineers.

Modern Software Tools for Scientific Computing by A. Bruaset,E. Arge,Hans Petter Langtangen Pdf

Looking back at the years that have passed since the realization of the very first electronic, multi-purpose computers, one observes a tremendous growth in hardware and software performance. Today, researchers and engi neers have access to computing power and software that can solve numerical problems which are not fully understood in terms of existing mathemati cal theory. Thus, computational sciences must in many respects be viewed as experimental disciplines. As a consequence, there is a demand for high quality, flexible software that allows, and even encourages, experimentation with alternative numerical strategies and mathematical models. Extensibil ity is then a key issue; the software must provide an efficient environment for incorporation of new methods and models that will be required in fu ture problem scenarios. The development of such kind of flexible software is a challenging and expensive task. One way to achieve these goals is to in vest much work in the design and implementation of generic software tools which can be used in a wide range of application fields. In order to provide a forum where researchers could present and discuss their contributions to the described development, an International Work shop on Modern Software Tools for Scientific Computing was arranged in Oslo, Norway, September 16-18, 1996. This workshop, informally referred to as Sci Tools '96, was a collaboration between SINTEF Applied Mathe matics and the Departments of Informatics and Mathematics at the Uni versity of Oslo.
