The 2020 Disaster Management Act saw the state sweep through rural areas, targeting funerals and other customary practices as potential ‘super-spreader’ events. South Africa does not just reflect the nature and diversity of challenges globally, but also the strategies pursued by countries to address these issues. Government institutions, campaigns and local communities have been looking for innovative ways to improve problems of all South Africans they are dealing with. Social and economic determinants of violence and a legacy of apartheid policies such as racism, segregation, injustice and inequality must be addressed to reduce inequalities in society and build community cohesion. In the following section, I would like to give a short insight into my research. The central question of the paper is to expose, how South Africa has changed after Apartheid and what the New South Africa looks like? In order to evaluate the way in which post-Apartheid South Africa deals with the issues, challenges and problems and accommodated its population diversity, this paper is organized in four parts. The first chapter of this paper will give a rough outline of the most important historic events in South Africa during Apartheid. The second chapter deals with internal political transformations after the end of apartheid. This part provides a context on the land issue and to the challenges post-apartheid has to address with unemployment, poverty and inequality. The third part focuses on political processes and debates about the spread of HIV/AIDS in South Africa. The last chapter is about the culture of violence against African migrants, called "Xenophobia". At the very end, there will be a final conclusion which illustrates the question and the aspects which emphasize the results regarding to the hypothesis that are made.

Around 25 languages are used in South Africa by more than 44.8 million people. That is the result of the influx of various groups of people to that region over the last centuries, meaning not only the by the African themselves, but also by people from Europe (Portuguese, Dutch, French, Germans, and British) and also from the East (Malaysia, Indonesia and India). Nevertheless, the majority of South Africans, almost 80% of the population, use an African language as their home language. The language situation in South Africa hasfor a long time been, and still is, quite difficult. Here, the indigenous languages of the South African people met with the European languages of the colonists, intermixed and coexisted with the many languages that were already spoken as mother tongues or as first languages. Like in many other former colonies, the European languages had then been used by those who held political power, and who considered the African languages as inferior. Both the European (English and Afrikaans) and the African languages were therefore distinguished into two varieties of prestige and referred to as H (high) or L (low) languages. With the largest Gross Domestic Product (GDP) on the continent and a President eager to play an active role in the promotion of regional peace and stability, South Africa is poised to have a substantial impact on the economic and political future of Africa. President Mbeki took a lead role in founding the African Union (AU), successor to the Organization of African Unity (OAU), and the New Partnership for African Development (NEPAD). South Africa, twice the size of Texas, has a population of 44 million, of which about 79% is African and 10% white, and a diverse economy. The South African political system is regarded as stable, but it faces serious long term challenges arising from poverty, unemployment, and the AIDS epidemic. The African National Congress (ANC), which led the struggle against apartheid, continues to dominate the political scene, controlling the presidency, over two-thirds of the National Assembly, all nine provinces, and five of the nation's six largest cities. The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) and the South African Communist Party, key ANC partners, have been critical of the Mbeki government, arguing that its policies have increased unemployment and failed to respond adequately to the country's HIV/AIDS epidemic.
