Cyberscience 2.0 by Michael Nentwich,Rene Konig,René König Pdf

At the start of the twenty-first century, the Internet was already perceived to have fundamentally changed the landscape for research. With its opportunities for digital networking, novel publication schemes, and new communication formats, the web was a game-changer for how research was done as well as what came after—the dissemination and discussion of results. Addressing the seismic shifts of the past ten years, Cyberscience 2.0 examines the consequences of the arrival of social media and the increasing dominance of big Internet players, such as Google, for science and research, particularly in the realms of organization and communication.

Cybersecurity Teaching in Higher Education by Leslie F. Sikos,Paul Haskell-Dowland Pdf

This book collects state-of-the-art curriculum development considerations, training methods, techniques, and best practices, as well as cybersecurity lab requirements and aspects to take into account when setting up new labs, all based on hands-on experience in teaching cybersecurity in higher education. In parallel with the increasing number and impact of cyberattacks, there is a growing demand for cybersecurity courses in higher education. More and more educational institutions offer cybersecurity courses, which come with unique and constantly evolving challenges not known in other disciplines. For example, step-by-step guides may not work for some of the students if the configuration of a computing environment is not identical or similar enough to the one the workshop material is based on, which can be a huge problem for blended and online delivery modes. Using nested virtualization in a cloud infrastructure might not be authentic for all kinds of exercises, because some of its characteristics can be vastly different from an enterprise network environment that would be the most important to demonstrate to students. The availability of cybersecurity datasets for training and educational purposes can be limited, and the publicly available datasets might not suit a large share of training materials, because they are often excessively documented, but not only by authoritative websites, which render these inappropriate for assignments and can be misleading for online students following training workshops and looking for online resources about datasets such as the Boss of the SOC (BOTS) datasets. The constant changes of Kali Linux make it necessary to regularly update training materials, because commands might not run the same way they did a couple of months ago. The many challenges of cybersecurity education are further complicated by the continuous evolution of networking and cloud computing, hardware and software, which shapes student expectations: what is acceptable and respected today might be obsolete or even laughable tomorrow.

Law, Ethics and Emerging Military Technologies by George Lucas Pdf

This book addresses issues of legal and moral governance arising in the development, deployment, and eventual uses of emerging technologies in military operations. Proverbial wisdom has it that law and morality always lag behind technological innovation. Hence, the book aims to identify, enumerate, and constructively address the problems of adequate governance for the development, deployment, and eventual uses of military technologies that have been newly introduced into military operations or which will be available in the near future. Proposals for modifications in governance, the book argues, closely track the anxieties of many critics of these technologies to the extent that they will proliferate, prove destructive in unanticipated ways, and partially or wholly escape regulation under current treaties and regulatory regimes. In addition to such concerns in domestic and especially in international law, the book addresses ethical norms in the professions involved in the design and eventual use of specific technologies, principally involving the professional norms of practice in engineering and the military (as well as biomedical and health care practice), which impose moral obligations on their members to avoid reckless endangerment or criminal negligence in the course of their activities. Thus, in addition to exploring the application of existing legal regimes and moral norms, the book examines how these professions might develop or improve the voluntary constraints on forms of malfeasance that are enshrined in their histories and codes of best practices. This book should prove of great interest to students of ethics, military studies, philosophy of war and peace, law, and international relations.

The 2013 International Conference on Cyber Science and Engineering (CyberSE 2013) will be held on in Guangzhou, China during December 14– 15, 2013. CyberSE is an annual conference to call together researchers, engineers, academicians as well as industrial professionals from all over the world to present their research results and development activities in Cyber Science and Engineering. CyberSE 2013 is sponsored by International Association for Cyber Science and Engineering, Hong Kong. CyberSE 2013 has received more than 200 submissions from 15 countries and regions. The papers come from both academia and industry reflecting the international flavor of this event in the topics of Cyber Science and Engineering. About 20 PC members and 40 International reviewers worked hard in reviewing the submissions. Based on the review reports, about 63 papers were accepted to be presented in CyberSE 2013 by the chairs. The papers were grouped into five sessions viz., 1. Computer and Information Technologies, 2. Communication Technologies, 3. Artificial Intelligence, 4. Management and Services Science, 5. Circuits and Systems. All the accepted papers have been presented on the conference, mainly by oral presentations. During the conference, many novel research works caught the attentions of the participants. The participants came to an agreement that they will participate in the CyberSE 2014 next year. All the presented papers will be published by DEStech Publications, USA. DEStech will have the proceeding indexed in ISI (Institute of Scientific Information), CPCI-S (ISTP), Google Book Search, EI and other worldwide online citation of qualified papers. We express our thanks to all the members of the General Committee Chairs, Program Committee Chairs, Technical Program Committee and Volunteers who worked so hard to prepare the conference and chair the five sessions in CyberSE 2013 . Bullying and Cyberbullying, Second Edition by Elizabeth Kandel Englander Pdf

Revised and updated to address shifts in the climate of bullying in schools and online, this timely work suggests anti-bullying approaches that are concrete, practical, and grounded in research. In this deeply insightful work, nationally renowned bullying expert Elizabeth Kandel Englander offers sensible perspectives on student social behavior and equips educators and parents with effective strategies to identify and address bullying. This second edition of Bullying and Cyberbullying reveals how enormous social changes, increased digital connections, and a global pandemic have indelibly altered the psychological world of children—and in turn shaped their peer interactions. Englander notes that effective school bullying prevention and intervention is rooted in a solid understanding of child development, social structures in schools, and the connections between online behavior and in-school socializing. Building on continuing research on smartphone and social media usage, online privacy, and sexting and other risky behaviors, this updated edition prepares educators and parents to identify gateway behaviors, anticipate bias-based bullying, and respond to aggression and harassment. Englander offers sage advice for promoting resilience, strong friendships, and healthy technology use, among other prosocial behaviors that can avert bullying among students. This much-needed work provides an accessible framework for understanding and responding effectively to bullying and offers suggestions for collaboration between educators and parents.
