Combined Turbine-magnetohydrodynamic Brayton Cycle Power System for Space and Ground Use by Lester D. Nichols Pdf

A combined turbine-MHD generator operating in a Brayton cycle with a NERVA nuclear reactor is considered, both for use in space and on the ground. The combined system is compared with an all-MHD Brayton system and an all-turbine system. The combined cycle systems have higher thermodynamic efficiencies than the other systems. The combined system with 1500 K turbine inlet and the all-MHD system with generator efficiency of 0.8 have the lowest specific recuperator plus radiator mass of those systems considered. But the combined system considered has an average radiator temperature of 200 to 250 K lower than the other. For ground use, a cycle efficiency of greater than 0.55 can be achieved.

Vapor Cycle Coolant Requirements for Nuclear Space Power Plants by Marion J. Janicke Pdf

Liquid metals are especially suited for reactors with high thermal fluxes and high operating temperatures, because of their high thermal conductivities, low vapor pressures, and relatively high volumetric heat capacities. They are stable at high temperatures and in intense radiation fields. Mercury, rubidium, potassium, and sodium are coolants that vaporize at a temperature within the present state-of-the-art metallurgical limits.

Topics in Graph Theory by Jonathan L Gross,Jay Yellen,Mark Anderson Pdf

The interplay continues to grow between graph theory and a wide variety of models and applications in mathematics, computer science, operations research, and the natural and social sciences. Topics in Graph Theory is geared toward the more mathematically mature student. The first three chapters provide the basic definitions and theorems of graph theory and the remaining chapters introduce a variety of topics and directions for research. These topics draw on numerous areas of theoretical and applied mathematics, including combinatorics, probability, linear algebra, group theory, topology, operations research, and computer science. This makes the book appropriate for a first course at the graduate level or as a second course at the undergraduate level. The authors build upon material previously published in Graph Theory and Its Applications, Third Edition, by the same authors. That text covers material for both an undergraduate and graduate course, while this book builds on and expands the graduate-level material. Features Extensive exercises and applications. Flexibility: appropriate for either a first course at the graduate level or an advanced course at the undergraduate level. Opens avenues to a variety of research areas in graph theory. Emphasis on topological and algebraic graph theory.

Environmental Applications of Remote Sensing by Maged Marghany Pdf

Nowadays, the innovation in space technologies creates a new trend for the Earth observation and monitoring from space. This book contains high quality and compressive work on both microwave and optical remote sensing applications. This book is divided into five sections: (i) remote sensing for biomass estimation, (ii) remote sensing-based glacier studies, (iii) remote sensing for coastal and ocean applications, (iv) sewage leaks and environment disasters, and (v) remote sensing image processing. Each chapter offers an opportunity to expand the knowledge about various remote sensing techniques and persuade researchers to deliver new research novelty for environment studies.

The River Loire Cycle Route by Mike Wells Pdf

The 1061km Loire Cycle Route starts at the source of the River Loire in the Massif Central mountains of central France and finishes at the Atlantic opposite St Nazaire. It descends past extinct volcanoes, crater lakes and deep gorges before joining EuroVelo route 6, followed by the fully waymarked Loire à Vélo, France's most popular cycle trail. Following the river downstream in 26 stages, the route is generally downhill or level, often on dedicated traffic-free cycle tracks. Packed with a wealth of useful information - from practical planning advice to fascinating insights about the river and its surroundings - the guidebook features detailed route descriptions and informative mapping. Details of facilities and places to stay, and a French glossary, are also included. The route goes through the heart of France as the Loire becomes the royal river, bounded by extravagant châteaux, fields of Charolais cattle and vineyards. It passes through historic cities like Orléans and Tours, continuing past Angers and France's fourth largest city Nantes to finish on the Atlantic coast.

Organic Rankine Cycle Technology for Heat Recovery by Enhua Wang Pdf

This book on organic Rankine cycle technology presents nine chapters on research activities covering the wide range of current issues on the organic Rankine cycle. The first section deals with working fluid selection and component design. The second section is related to dynamic modeling, starting from internal combustion engines to industrial power plants. The third section discusses industrial applications of waste heat recovery, including internal combustion engines, LNG, and waste water. A comprehensive analysis of the technology and application of organic Rankine cycle systems is beyond the aim of the book. However, the content of this volume can be useful for scientists and students to broaden their knowledge of technologies and applications of organic Rankine cycle systems.
