Dances of France II - Provence and Alsace by Nicolette Tennevin,Marie Texier Texier Pdf
From sun-drenched Provence, vibrating with warmth and the whirring 'song' of cicada, come some of the gayest and historically most interesting dances in all Europe. Here are Lou Rigaudon, 'invention of the devil'; La Farandoulo, said to have originated in the Minotaur's labyrinth; and the charming Jardiniero, in which the women hold floral hoops and the men baskets of flowers. And Alsace, scene of numberless fetes and ancient fairs still produces the amusing Cock Dance. This second volume of French national dances is once again illustrated by four attractive colour plates, and contains the music and dance notations of four national dances. Nicolette Tennevin comes from a Provençal family and is head of 'La Couqueto', a group of dancers actively seeking to uphold their heritage of traditional songs, dances, and costumes. Marie Texier is President of the Commission de Folklore de la Fédération Regionale Française.

French Court Dance and Dance Music by Judith Leah Schwartz,Christena L. Schlundt Pdf
Growing interest in classic French music and theatrical entertainment has brought with it awareness of the prominent role of dance in French culture of the 17th and 18th centuries. Primary sources from which social and theatrical dances of the period may be reconstructed have inspired much enthusiasm on the part of performers and students of the French classic period. The sources described in this volume consist of printed matter issued during the reigns of Louis XIV, XV, and XVI, representing the period 1643-1789. The work focuses upon writings that bear directly or indirectly upon French court dance and its music, its practitioners in France, and its imitators abroad.

Big French Dance by Anonim Pdf
"Ron and Fay Stanford lived in southwest Louisiana for two years, from 1972 to 1974, with the goal of documenting regional French music. They produced an LP record, J'étais au bal, music from French Louisiana, with extensive liner notes and photographs, then moved on. Forty-two years after the project ended in 2016, Ron rediscovered his old box of negatives from Louisiana. With the benefit of digital technology, he started scanning them and making large prints. "Seeing my pictures in high resolution for the first time, I was led back into that musical world in which I had seen and heard things strange and wonderful." Big French Dance is an unexpected time capsule of Louisiana life." -- Publisher's website.

Dances of France III. The Pyrenees by Violet Alford Pdf
The dances of the French Pyrenees express a multitude of influences in their colourful variety. At the eastern end the French side is influenced by Spanish Catalonia, at the western end the famous Basque dances show some slight influence from their Spanish-Basque brothers; even in the centre, under the high and inaccessible peaks, dances are coloured by influence from across the frontier, so that everywhere traditions are Pyrenean rather than regional or local. Violet Alford, author of this book and editor of the series, knew the Pyrenees as few other foreigners do. She was a dancer herself, both at home and with the people whose countries she visited. Readers of her books The Traditional Dance (with Rodney Gallop) and Pyrenean Festivals, and of the many articles she wrote on folk-lore and folk dance, will recognise her lively and authoritative style. Miss Alford here selected five typical dances for fuller description, with music and step-notation. Four plates in colour show the correct costumes.

Modern Dance in France (1920-1970) by Jacqueline Robinson Pdf
It was indeed an adventure for those pioneers in France who struggled for the recognition of the new-born dance of the twentieth century - from the free dance of Isadora Duncan, through the absolute dance of Mary Wigman, to the modern dance of Martha Graham. Jacqueline Robinson has lived at the heart of this adventure, sharing the aspirations of a whole generation who often suffered from the lack of understanding of an establishment more inclined towards classical ballet. From the breaking of the soil in the twenties, to the flowering in the sixties, here is a chronicle of the changing landscape of French dance. Here is the story of those men and women, ploughmen and poets, rebels and visionaries - the recollection of those events that made it possible for dance as an art form in Western countries to rise again as a fundamental expression of the human spirit.

Medieval French Dances by Serkan Özçifci Pdf
Medieval French Dances aims to introduce a historical music repertoire through a historical notation. In this work, eight estampies and three danses found in Manuscrit du Roi (Français 844) are transcribed into white mensural notation. Thus, access to this set of pieces is provided through an intermediate formula that preserves its practicality without breaking the communication with the musical language of the period, rather than today's staff notation which does not allow to establish a direct connection with the mensuration principles of the Middle Ages. In addition, it is hoped that the knowledge to be gained by studying the notation guide in this edition would also facilitate contact with the rich musical repertoire of the Late Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
