Darlene Milanovich by Gordon Marx Pdf

Darlene is my first complete novel. I can not say where I get the idea from but once I start a book, it just about writes itself. Darlene was an RN in a Siberian. She visited people in their homes as a sideline of her work and one of these clients was a rich diamond merchant. He was in the habit of using his hands freely on Darlene and one night in anger, she hit him with a lamp, killing him. She cleaned out his safe of diamonds and illegal American money and she fled to the U.S.

Doris to Darlene by Jordan Harrison Pdf

Doris to Darlene, A Cautionary Valentine: In the candy-colored 1960s, biracial schoolgirl Doris is molded into pop star Darlene by a whiz-kid record producer who culls a top-ten hit out of Richard Wagner's "Liebestod." Rewind to the candy-colored 1860s, where Wagner is writing the melody that will become Darlene's hit song. Fast-forward to the not-so-candy-colored present, where a teenager obsesses over Darlene's music -- and his music teacher. Three dissonant decades merge into an unlikely harmony in this time-jumping pop fairy tale about the dreams and disasters behind one transcendent song.

L'sitkuk by Darlene Anne Ricker Pdf

L'sitkuk (pronounced elsetkook) is the original name for the Bear River Mi'kmaw community, which is part of the Mi'kmaw First Nation. Nestled close to the Bear River watershed, this tiny native community is regaining its culture, language and identity after hundreds of years of colonialism and assimilation. Living in the area for thousands of years, they were among the first people in Canada to have continuous contact with non-natives. This book preserves the memory of the elders through oral histories and old photographs, and tells who these people are and how they survived, prospered and sustained one another. The stories of everyday life reflect native values and the strong ideal of interconnectedness in the community. Darlene A. Ricker listened to the stories and learned about the traditions and culture of the closely knit Mi'kmaw community at Bear River. From her interviews with elders and young people, she has drawn this poignant oral history.

Englewood Tales by Kimberly White Ingram Pdf

"Englewood Tales" is a series of interrelated short stories about African American children and teenagers growing up on the Southside of Chicago during the 1970s and 1980s. Each unique story is told from the viewpoint of its own hero or heroine faced with - and responding to - personal conflicts, ranging from bullying, incest, and child abuse, to sexual behavior, murder, death, and homosexuality. While "Englewood Tales" is about children and teenagers, it is not a "children's" book. The language, as well as the subject matter, is both candid and framed for a mature audience, who can appreciate having come through to the other side.

Joy, Joy, why Do I Sing? by Darlene Madott Pdf

In this brilliant collection of short stories, Darlene Madott explores the individual quests of characters to sing themselves out of the void -- to seek a motivation beyond the confines of their personal joys and sufferings. In the title story, the uniqueness is in the exploration of the notion that in the gift of singing, we pray twice: we celebrate the song, and we celebrate the creator. Madott's stories examine the relationships between people, within the understanding that one note in isolation means nothing; it communicates nothing. It is the interval -- the relationship between two notes and how an individual moves from one to the other -- that creates meaning. Sometimes there is consonance, but more often, it is dissonance that swirls between two people. The author describes this dissonance in one marriage as "the interval of a seventh apart." All of the stories possess a certain tugging at the heart, and at the core of each story it is love alone that transposes the music.
