Nearly fifteen years before the birth of gay liberation, the Daughters of Bilitis (DOB) was the world's first organization committed to lesbian visibility and empowerment. This remarkable history of the organization presents a portrait of two generations of southern women whose efforts helped shape the social and political culture of the New South.
