Daughters of Oduma by Moses Ose Utomi Pdf

An elite female fighter must reenter the competition to protect her found family of younger sisters in this “absorbing, striking” (Publishers Weekly, starred review) young adult fantasy inspired by West African culture, perfect for fans of The Gilded Ones and Creed. Eat. Dance. Fight. This is the life of the girls who compete in the Isle’s elite, all-female fighting sport of Bowing. But it isn’t really Dirt’s life anymore. At sixteen, she is old and has retired from competition. Instead, she spends her days coaching the younger sisters of the Mud Fam and dreading her fast-approaching birthday, when she’ll have to leave her sisters to fulfill whatever destiny the Gods choose for her. Dirt’s young sisters are coming along nicely, and the Mud Fam is sure to win the upcoming South God Bow tournament, which is crucial: the tiny Fam needs the new recruits that come with victory. Then an attack from a powerful rival leaves the Mud without their top Bower, and Dirt is the only one who can compete in the tournament. But Dirt is old, out of shape, and afraid. She has never wanted to be a leader. Victory seems impossible—yet defeat would mean the end of her beloved Fam. And no way is Dirt going to let that happen.

A Biafran Odyssey by Chidi Giniji Pdf

At the turn of the year, 1966, Nigeria was thrown into an awful turmoil by a military coup that exacerbated the existing but cryptic ethnic resentments, precipitating the hostile environments, which necessitated the secession of Biafra, and a year later, ushered in a bloody three-year-war! A Biafran Odyssey is the story of a Biafran youngster, Chidi, who, convinced about the unequivocal legitimacy of Biafra's claim to self-determination, left home to join the army, but returned two years later, at the end of the war, with many unanswered questions and a sobering notion about his world. Chidi tells his story of Biafra, the way it was never told, featuring the emotional vagaries to which his comrades and himself were subjected to; their woes, their cries and, ironically, their laughs too, revealing some of the weird aspects of one of the most brutal ethnic conflicts of post- colonial Africa. With short poems and love scenes like the short-lived affair between himself and Bernadette, Chidi portrays, without being too salacious, albeit unique with African stories, some of the discomfits of transforming from adolescent into adulthood on a fast lane.

Igbo Women and Economic Transformation in Southeastern Nigeria, 1900-1960 by Gloria Chuku Pdf

Extrait de amazon.com : "Among Africanists and feminists, the Igbo-speaking women of southeastern Nigeria are well known for their history of anti-colonial activism which was most demonstrated in the 1929 War against British Colonialism. Perplexed by the magnitude of the Women's War, the colonial government commissioned anthropologists/ethnographers to study the Igbo political system and the place of women in Igbo society. The primary motive was to have a better understanding of the Igbo in order to avoid a repeat of the Women's War. This study will analyze the complexity and flexibility of gender relations in Igbo society with emphasis on such major cultural zones as the Anioma, the Ngwa, the Onitsha, the Nsukka, and the Aro."

Every Version of You by Grace Chan Pdf

'Asks what it is to be human. Visceral, mind-bending and tender.' - Inga Simpson In late twenty-first century Australia, Tao-Yi and her partner Navin spend most of their time inside a hyper-immersive, hyper-consumerist virtual reality called Gaia. They log on, go to work, socialise, and even eat in this digital utopia. Meanwhile their aging bodies lie suspended in pods inside cramped apartments. Across the city, in the abandoned 'real' world, Tao-Yi's mother remains stubbornly offline, preferring instead to indulge in memories of her life in Malaysia. When a new technology is developed to permanently upload a human brain to Gaia, Tao-Yi must decide what is most important: a digital future, or an authentic past. Never Let Me Go meets Black Mirror, with a dash of Murakami surrealism thrown in, this is speculative literary fiction at its best.
