Woman VS. Church and State by Matilda Joslyn Gage Pdf

This work explains itself and is given to the world because it is needed. Tired of the obtuseness of Church and State; indignant at the injustice of both towards woman; at the wrongs inflicted upon one-half of humanity by the other half in the name of religion; finding appeal and argument alike met by the assertion that God designed the subjection of woman, and yet that her position had been higher under Christianity than ever before: Continually hearing these statements, and knowing them to be false, I refuted them in a slight resume of the subject at the annual convention of the National Woman Suffrage Association, Washington, D.C., 1878. A wish to see that speech in print, having been expressed, it was allowed to appear in The National Citizen, a woman suffrage paper I then edited, and shortly afterwards in "The History of Woman Suffrage," of which I was also an editor. The kindly reception given both in the United States and Europe to that meager chapter of forty pages confirmed my purpose of a fuller presentation of the subject in book form, and it now appears, the result of twenty years investigation, in a volume of over five hundred and fifty pages. Matilda Electa Joslyn Gage (1826-1898) was a 19th-century women's suffragist, a Native American rights activist, an abolitionist, a freethinker, and a prolific author, who was "born with a hatred of oppression."

The Woman Question by Margaret Lovell-Smith Pdf

"It will be essentially a woman's paper, one that will deal with the many phases of the "Woman's Question" in its legal and social aspects," wrote Kate Sheppard in the first issue of The White Ribbon, July 1985. The writings of the women who won the vote in New Zealand would fill several volumes, as the pen was their major weapon. In the pages of first The Prohibitionist and later the entirely woman-owned and managed papers Daybreak and The White Ribbon, they debated ideas and issues, influenced the opinions of a huge body of women all over the country, networked and campaigned. The agenda included the vote, the economic independence of married women, the right to divorce, the custody of children being vested in both parents, the equal right of girls to a decent education and of women to training and jobs in the professions, the improvement of women's health and vitality, reform in women's dress, the need fo a payment to mothers and old age pensions, prison reform, peace and international arbitration. The editor has selected over ninety articles by sixteen women: Kate Sheppard figures strongly, but here too are Nary Muller, Lily Kirk, Stella Allan, Marion Hatton, Lucy Smith, Ada Wells, Margaret Sievwright, Christina Henderson, Jessie Mackay, Sarah Saunders Page, Amey Daldy, Alice Burn, Louisa Blake, Wilhelmina Sherriff Bain and Jennie Lovell Smith.

Daybreak by Shelley Shepard Gray Pdf

In this close-knit Amish family, nothing is as perfect as it seems . . . When Viola Keim starts working at a nearby Mennonite retirement home, she strikes up an unlikely friendship with resident Atle, whose only living relative, son Edward, is living as a missionary in Nicaragua. Viola understands the importance of mission work, but she can't imagine leaving her father in the hands of strangers. Even though her family is New Order Amish, it's not the Amish way, and though she doesn't know Ed, she judges him for abandoning his father. But when Ed surprises his father with a visit, Viola and Ed both discover an attraction they never expected. Despite her feelings, choosing Ed would mean moving to a far-off country and leaving her family behind. She can't do that. Her twin sister, Elsie, is going blind and will need someone to care for her all her life. Her family is reeling with the recent discovery that her grandmother hid her past as an Englischer. Her father seems forgetful and distracted—and to be harboring some secrets of his own. Does Viola dare leave them all behind and forge her own life? Or will family ties mean her one chance at love slips away?

This Way Daybreak Comes by Annie Cheatham,Mary Clare Powell Pdf

The authors, a futurist and an artist, spent the first four years of this decade traveling across the United States and interviewing women, whom they see as creating a new vision of the future by the way they live their lives in the present. This book is a distillation of what they found: women forming new kinds of families; creating new forms of art; plotting new political models; restoring the natural balances and rhythms of the planet; redefining roles, relationships and responsibilities. Their sketches, though brief, provide ample evidence of the positive effects of the feminist movement and its possibilities for creative change. ISBN 0-86571-069-4 (pbk.): $12.95.

The Kratos is set on a mission to rescue fallen surveyors from the Revolutionaries, and Liora is given the choice to follow her Damaclan instincts, or trust Devren's dark eyes and captivating smile that promise an adventure unlike any she has ever experienced.
