During his investigation, Chuck runs afoul of the Serbian gangsters and fights for his life in the swamps of the Everglades. When the Serbians kidnap Chuck''s fiance, he must invade their heavily-armed stronghold or risk never seeing her again. In the final showdown with Crucero, Dallas Gorham sends readers on a white-knuckle ride that circles back to McCrary''s own home, where he must confront the worst nightmare he could imagine. McCrary''s Justice slices like a machete through a treacherous jungle of forced prostitution, Mexican drug cartels, and new and fearsome enemies, as Chuck McCrary maneuvers inside the gangs and outside the law. Interview with the Author Q - What makes the Carlos McCrary series exceptional? A - I consider myself a serious mystery and thriller fan. My novels reflect the kind of books I like to read. My top picks are usually private detective novels, any of the thousands of thrillers and mysteries best sellers, and, of course, books featuring classic heroes like Spenser (he with no first name) and Jack Reacher (who has a first name but doesn''t use it much). Basically, I like stories with a kick-butt, take-no-prisoners attitude and fast-paced action. And maybe a little sex. The Carlos McCrary books are a great mix of these genres. The series focuses on the mystery and thriller / private investigator genre overall, with a couple of vigilante justice thrillers thrown in, some political corruption thrillers, and some organized crime and mafia involvement to keep things interesting! I designed the series to keep you up late at night. Once you start a book, it''s hard to quit. Q - What order should I read the books in? A - You can read the books in any order. All the stories tie up nicely by the time you finish. If you want to read them in order, I''d suggest the following sequence: - I''m No Hero (a short story prequel introducing Carlos McCrary as a Green Beret in Afghanistan in the military rescue that earns him a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart) - Six Murders Too Many - Double Fake, Double Murder - Quarterback Trap - Dangerous Friends - Day of the Tiger - McCrary''s Justice Q - So, why should readers try these books? A - The Carlos McCrary series is a fast, fun, thrill-ride that takes no prisoners! Ultimately, readers who enjoy lightning-fast pacing with a plot that twists and turns all the way to the end will get a kick out of this series. And thanks for reading! Tube of Plenty by Erik Barnouw Pdf

Based on the classic History of Broadcasting in the United States, Tube of Plenty represents the fruit of several decades' labor. When Erik Barnouw--premier chronicler of American broadcasting and a participant in the industry for fifty years--first undertook the project of recording its history, many viewed it as a light-weight literary task concerned mainly with "entertainment" trivia. Indeed, trivia such as that found in quiz programs do appear in the book, but Barnouw views them as part of a complex social tapestry that increasingly defines our era. To understand our century, we must fully comprehend the evolution of television and its newest extraordinary offshoots. With this fact in mind, Barnouw's new edition of Tube of Plenty explores the development and impact of the latest dramatic phases of the communications revolution. Since the first publication of this invaluable history of television and how it has shaped, and been shaped by, American culture and society, many significant changes have occurred. Assessing the importance of these developments in a new chapter, Barnouw specifically covers the decline of the three major networks, the expansion of cable and satellite television and film channels such as HBO (Home Box Office), the success of channels catering to special audiences such as ESPN (Entertainment and Sports Programming Network) and MTV (Music Television), and the arrival of VCRs in America's living rooms. He also includes an appendix entitled "questions for a new millennium," which will challenge readers not only to examine the shape of television today, but also to envision its future.

Sense Of Place by Barbara Allen,Thomas J. Schelereth Pdf

Despite the homogenization of American life, areas of strong regional consciousness still persist in the United States, and there is a growing interest in regionalism among the public and among academics. In response to that interest ten folklorists here describe and interpret a variety of American regional cultures in the twentieth century. Their book is the first to deal specifically with regional culture and the first to employ the perspective of folklore in the study of regional identity and consciousness. The authors range widely over the United States, from the Eastern Shore to the Pacific Northwest, from the Southern Mountains to the Great Plains. They look at a variety of cultural expressions and practices -- legends, anecdotes, songs, foodways, architecture, and crafts. Tying their work together is a common consideration of how regional culture shapes and is shaped by the consciousness of living in a special place. In exploring this dimension of regional culture the authors consider the influence of natural environment and historical experience on the development of regional culture, the role of ethnicity in regional consciousness, the tensions between insiders and outsiders that stem from a sense of regional identity, and the changes in culture in response to social and economic change. With its focus on cultural manifestations and its folkloristic perspective this book provides a fresh and needed contribution to regional studies. Writ¬ten in a clear, readable style, it will appeal to general readers interested in American regions and their cultures. At the same time the research and analytical approach make it useful not only to folklorists but to cultural geographers, anthropologists, and other scholars of regional studies.
