The Dorrance Domain by Carolyn Wells Pdf

"I wish we didn't have to live in a boarding-house!" said Dorothy Dorrance, flinging herself into an armchair, in her grandmother's room, one May afternoon, about six o'clock. She made this remark almost every afternoon, about six o'clock, whatever the month or the season, and as a rule, little attention was paid to it. But to-day her sister Lilian responded, in a sympathetic voice,

Delphi Complete Works of Raymond Chandler (Illustrated) by Raymond Chandler Pdf

The American author of detective fiction, Raymond Chandler created the private detective Philip Marlowe, characterised as a poor, yet honest upholder of ideals in an opportunistic and brutal world. In total, Chandler completed seven novels, all featuring Philip Marlowe as their hero, many of which were adapted for the silver screen as film noir classics. As a founder of the hard-boiled school of detective fiction, Chandler was lionised by critics and leading writers, including W. H. Auden, Evelyn Waugh and Ian Fleming, who admired his literary prose and pithy dialogue. Chandler's innovative approach helped redefine the private eye fiction genre, winning him the designation of the most lyrical of the major crime writers. This comprehensive eBook presents Chandler’s complete works, with numerous illustrations, rare texts appearing in digital print for the first time, informative introductions and the usual Delphi bonus material. Patty and Azalea by Carolyn Wells Pdf

"Oh, Little Billee! Come quick, for goodness' sake! The baby's choking!" Patty was in the sun parlour, her arms full of a fluttering bundle of lace and linen, and her blue eyes wide with dismay at her small daughter's facial contortions. "Only with laughter," Bill reassured her after a quick glance at the restless infant. "Give her to me."

Among the most famous of her mystery novels were the Fleming Stone Detective Stories whichThis children's book first published in 1908 is about a mischievous 12-year-old girl Majorie (also called "Midget" or "Mops") and her daily escapades with her friends and siblings. Marjorie can't help but get up to hi-jinks but she always listens to her parents' scoldings and promises not to do it again. Then she goes and does something else... To tell you what she gets up to would spoil the plot but it's very charming and funny. I really liked Marjorie. She's a real little girl who isn't perfect by any means and doesn't really want to try. She means well but ... she just can't help herself. Her whole family is loving and close-knit. Her parents may despair at some of her antics but they always have a hug and a kind word for their children when needed. I don't know why this series hasn't become a classic the way Anne of Green Gables did. It's a lot of fun and good slice of life for a wealthy girl living in the New York area in 1908.

Patty Fairfield (1901). By: Carolyn Wells by Carolyn Wells Pdf

"How old are you, Patty?" asked her father, abruptly. "Fourteen, papa, -why?" "My conscience! what a great girl you're getting to be. Stand up and let me look at you." Patty Fairfield, with two twists and a spring, brought herself to her feet, and stood awaiting her father's inspection. He saw a slender, graceful girl, a Southern blonde of the purest type. Her pretty golden hair would gladly have hung in curly masses, but it was only allowed to have its own sweet will around her temples and at the end of a long thick braid. Her eyes were blue, deep and twinkly, and the rest of her face was as pretty and sweet as soft girlish contours and a perfect complexion could make it. But best of all was the gentle expression and frank, good-natured smile which so often broke into mischievous dimples. It did on this occasion, and Patty laughed merrily at her father's grave consideration of her.... Carolyn Wells (June 18, 1862 - March 26, 1942) was an American writer and poet. Hubin's Crime Fiction IV: A Comprehensive Bibliography, 1749-2000 (2003)-number 61 titles. Wells's The Clue (1909) is on the Haycraft-Queen Cornerstone list of essential mysteries. She was also the first to conduct a (brief, in this case) annual series devoted to the best short crime fiction of the previous year in the U.S., beginning with The Best American Mystery Stories of the Year (1931) (though others had begun a similar British series in 1929).
