Design for Eternity by Joanne Pillsbury,Patricia Joan Sarro,James Doyle,Juliet Wiersema Pdf

From the first millennium B.C. until the arrival of Europeans in the sixteenth century, artists from across the ancient Americas created small-scale architectural effigies to be placed in the tombs of important individuals. These works range from highly abstracted, minimalist representations of temples and houses to elaborate complexes populated with figures, conveying a rich sense of ancient ritual and daily life. Although often called models, these effigies were not created as prototypes for structures, but rather to serve as components of funerary practices that conveyed beliefs about an afterlife. Design for Eternity is the first publication in English to explore the full variety of these exquisite architectural works. The vivid illustrations and insightful essays focus on the concepts embodied in architectural representations and the role these intriguing sculptures played in mediating relationships among the living, the dead, and the divine.

Virtual Eternity by Christopher Rogers Pdf

Jonathan Hannah and Maureen Kelly are 24-year-olds struggling with religion, sexuality, and a hypnotic mid-90s virtual-reality game culture. Maureen is a lukewarm, lifelong Catholic, trying to keep her vow of virginity, despite an infuriated fiancé and a pretty best friend. Jonathan is an agnostic womanizer. His conversion story starts when he learns his parents aborted his sister for her kidney cells: he was born instead. At his new career near Miami, a beautiful executive, Lana, seduces him. Lana controls access to Magic Theater, the mysterious games Jonathan tests. Jonathan’s search for authentic reality and purpose intensifies as he explores Lana, girls, 90s-culture, corporations, art, and Catholicism. His journey shifts to the wintry north, through temptations like an erotic ex-lover, his ominous mentor, and the wide gate to eternity. Virtual Eternity combines vivid characters, romance, technological conspiracy, and religious journeys, including Scripture and Tradition sources. It weaves together two transformation stories.

God, Eternity and the Nature of Time by Alan Padgett Pdf

This book focuses on the timelessness of God, providing a detailed analysis of the nature of time and eternity. Padgett offers a biblical and historical survey of the doctrine of eternity, rejecting both theories of eternity being both 'timeless' and 'everlasting'. Padgett argues that traditionally the doctrine of absolute divine timelessness is not compatible with God's actions in the world. ÒGod is in some sense temporal, yet He is the ground of time, the Lord of time and is 'relatively' timeless.

Again to the Life of Eternity by Frank A. Vaughan Pdf

"This work postulates that the set of 116 designs by William Blake, illustrated herein, is not a series of individual responses to the pieces of text they accompany, nor is it a series of responses to the individual poems of Thomas Gray. The designs are also more than illustrations, or corrections, of Gray's speakers or of Gray himself. In the Gray designs, Blake was using the opportunity given him by John and Ann Flaxman in 1797 to explore and explain visually the reformist malaise in the reactionary nineties when the general economic well-being and optimism had been replaced by the effects of war and fear. For Blake, the collapse into the later 1790s is the failure of the imaginative will to sustain the impetus that the American and French Revolutions had begun." "Blake saw several causes for this failure of will and created a set of designs rich in allusions and dense with visual conventions. These visual topoi are personal, topical, classical, biblical, and literary." "Thus, there is a need for a study of the Gray designs that sees them as they are: a unity rich with visual conventions partaking of Blake's revolutionary pattern of development and desire to reshape in specific ways the mind of his audience."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Eternity and Eternal Life by Tibor Horvath Pdf

The Newtonian concept of time has been changed by Einsteinian insight. Yet the Einsteinian world view might make it difficult to appreciate traditional concepts of eschatology, like heaven and hell, death and immortality, life after death and resurrection, last day and final judgments, because these expressions presuppose a pre-Einsteinian view of the universe. Since theology cannot remain unaffected by the new research in concepts of time, Eternity and Eternal Life tries to express the eschatological faith of the Church by using the time language of our age. To achieve this it provides an overview on the research in the nature of time done in geology, cosmology, physics, biology, psychology, sociology, history and philosophy and proposes a notion of time for “timely” Christology and for “timely” eschatology. By using the singularity event as literary form, Horvath scrutinizes how Christ’s time can lead to the times of all existing realities, through death to “eternity.” This is a pioneering work, one that needs to be tested in the community of interested readers. It is a communal search for an understanding of life, death and eternal life, not only in the light of abstract ideas and cultural linguistic doctrines in the world of religions, but also in the light of science and especially of a person as the horizon of understanding for both time and eternity. Christ as the eschatological union of time and eternity becomes the work’s unifying focus and its paradigm, which solves recognized problems and opens our minds to new ones.
