These multiple volumes (LNCS volumes 6016, 6017, 6018 and 6019) consist of the peer-reviewed papers from the 2010 International Conference on Compu- tional Science and Its Applications (ICCSA2010)held in Fukuoka, Japanduring March23–26,2010.ICCSA2010wasasuccessfuleventintheInternationalC- ferences on Computational Science and Its Applications (ICCSA) conference - ries, previouslyheld in Suwon, South Korea (2009), Perugia, Italy (2008), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (2007), Glasgow, UK (2006), Singapore (2005), Assisi, Italy (2004), Montreal, Canada (2003), and (as ICCS) Amsterdam, The Netherlands (2002) and San Francisco, USA (2001). Computational science is a main pillar of most of the present research, - dustrial and commercial activities and plays a unique role in exploiting ICT - novative technologies. The ICCSA conference series has been providing a venue to researchers and industry practitioners to discuss new ideas, to share complex problems and their solutions, and to shape new trends in computational science. ICCSA 2010 was celebrated at the host university, Kyushu Sangyo Univ- sity, Fukuoka, Japan, as part of the university’s 50th anniversary. We would like to thank Kyushu Sangyo University for hosting ICCSA this year, and for - cluding this international event in their celebrations. Also for the ?rst time this year, ICCSA organized poster sessions that present on-going projects on various aspects of computational sciences.

The SAGE Encyclopedia of Educational Technology by J. Michael Spector Pdf

The SAGE Encyclopedia of Educational Technology examines information on leveraging the power of technology to support teaching and learning. While using innovative technology to educate individuals is certainly not a new topic, how it is approached, adapted, and used toward the services of achieving real gains in student performance is extremely pertinent. This two-volume encyclopedia explores such issues, focusing on core topics and issues that will retain relevance in the face of perpetually evolving devices, services, and specific techniques. As technology evolves and becomes even more low-cost, easy-to-use, and more accessible, the education sector will evolve alongside it. For instance, issues surrounding reasoning behind how one study has shown students retain information better in traditional print formats are a topic explored within the pages of this new encyclopedia. Features: A collection of 300-350 entries are organized in A-to-Z fashion in 2 volumes available in a choice of print or electronic formats. Entries, authored by key figures in the field, conclude with cross references and further readings. A detailed index, the Reader’s Guide themes, and cross references combine for search-and-browse in the electronic version. This reference encyclopedia is a reliable and precise source on educational technology and a must-have reference for all academic libraries.

Intelligent Tutoring Systems by Gilles Gauthier,Claude Frasson,Kurt VanLehn Pdf

ITS 2000 is the fifth international conference on Intelligent Tutoring Systems. The preceding conferences were organized in Montreal in 1988, 1992, and 1996. These conferences were so strongly supported by the international community that it was decided to hold them every two years. ITS’98 was organized by Carol Redfield and Valerie Shute and held in San Antonio, Texas. The program committee included members from 13 countries. They received 140 papers (110 full papers and 30 young researchers papers) from 21 countries. As with any international conference whose proceedings serve as a reference for the field, the program committee faced the demanding task of selecting papers from a particularly high quality set of submissions. This proceedings volume contains 61 papers selected by the program committee from the 110 papers submitted. They were presented at the conference, along with six invited lectures from well known speakers. The papers cover a wide range of subjects including architectures for ITS, teaching and learning strategies, authoring systems, learning environments, instructional designs, cognitive approaches, student modeling, distributed learning environments, evaluation of instructional systems, cooperative systems, Web based training systems, intelligent agents, agent based tutoring systems, intelligent multimedia and hypermedia systems, interface design, and intelligent distance learning.

Advanced Distributed Systems by Felix F. Ramos,Victor Lrios Rosillo,Herwig Unger Pdf

It is our pleasure to present the papers accepted and presented at the 5th Int- national School and Symposium on Advanced Distributed Systems (ISSADS) in this LNCS volume. The symposium was held in the city of Guadalajara,Mexico from January 24 to 28, 2005. The organization team was composed of members of CINVESTAV Guadalajara, Rostock University in Germany, the CUCEI and CUCEA campuses of Guadalajara University, and Instituto Tecnol ́ ogico y de Estudios Superiores de Occidente, ITESO. The symposium is already a we- established annual meeting, at which scientists and people from the industrial ?eld meet and discuss the progress of applications and the theory of distributed systems in a forum during the last week of January. This year, more than 250 people from 3 continents attended the conference. Most of them are scientists, teachers, students and engineers from the local industry. The papers presented in the sessions of the symposium cover not only the subjects of distributed systems from the system level and applications, but also contributions from the area of theory and arti?cial intelligence concepts. These papers were selected out of more than 100 submissions. There was a selection ?lter in which each paper was evaluated by at least three members of the - ternational Program Committee, who came from research institutions of good reputation all over the world.
