This is Part 2 of book 1 in the Club Wicked Cove series. In Part 1, Ceejay Powell found love and absolution, for her guilt, in the arms of Colt Fargo, the owner of Club Wicked Cove, until his dark past reared its head in the form of the Occhipinti organization. Colt now returns to find himself at the helm of the most feared and powerful American crime family, to reprise his role as The Devil's Spawn, a name replete with evil.A phone call jars loose recent memories that he had compartmentalized in the back of his mind and spins his world upside down. Enraged by the turn of events, he travels back to Jacksonville to avenge the deceit. Ceejay finds it impossible to associate Damiano Vitale with the man that she once loved. Soon, her secret is revealed, pushing Damiano to violate every emotion he had ever held as rage blinds him to anything but retribution and turning his love for Ceejay, into hate. When a demented psychopath comes along, the bond they once had and tried to repair becomes endangered of being destroyed forever. This tale is wrought in depth with the fullest scope for which the human condition is accountable: love, hate, violence, betrayal and death. Will Damiano be acquitted in the court of public opinion for his crimes of passion or will he be found guilty and condemned to a life of misery and self-loathing?

S is for Safe Word by Linzi Basset Pdf

The journey of Grace Forrester and Ralph White began in THE INTERVIEW, with Grace searching for the dream job and Ralph interviewing for a new live-in submissive. The story is a slow burn from the start of their lives together and sets the background of the series to follow. This is where their journey continues… Grace Forrester Life is full of curveballs. I just wish they’d bypass me on the odd occasion. Throwing me a lifeline just to yank it back doesn’t count. I had my chance at turning around the ever-deepening mire of debt. I was sucked in… and I messed it up. What sane woman would agree to a certifiable proposal by a prospective employer on the day of the interview? Not this one. The threat of losing the house I inherited from my parents forced me to reconsider my options. Except… would the formidable Ralph White consider my counteroffer? Ralph White I’m not well-liked in the corporate world, not that I care. I worked hard to achieve success and became a self-made billionaire, something no one can take away from me. Except it leads to a lonely life, one I counter by carefully selecting a new live-in submissive every year. Grace Forrester ticks all the boxes, but she’s stubborn and spurned my offer. She’s the one I want, and I always get what I’m after. Besides, I have the power and money to bend her to my will. Amid a suspenseful backstory of money, power, and corruption, will this sassy woman give in to the pull of the natural submissive yearning to be set free? PLEASE NOTE: Although the blurb is in first person, the book is written in third person.

Moonglow by Michael Chabon Pdf

Following on the heels of his New York Times–bestselling novel Telegraph Avenue, Pulitzer Prize–winning author Michael Chabon delivers another literary masterpiece: a novel of truth and lies, family legends, and existential adventure—and the forces that work to destroy us. In 1989, fresh from the publication of his first novel, The Mysteries of Pittsburgh, Michael Chabon traveled to his mother’s home in Oakland, California, to visit his terminally ill grandfather. Tongue loosened by powerful painkillers, memory stirred by the imminence of death, Chabon’s grandfather shared recollections and told stories the younger man had never heard before, uncovering bits and pieces of a history long buried and forgotten. That dreamlike week of revelations forms the basis of the novel Moonglow, the latest feat of legerdemain in the ongoing magic act that is the art of Michael Chabon. Moonglow unfolds as the deathbed confession, made to his grandson, of a man the narrator refers to only as “my grandfather.” It is a tale of madness, of war and adventure, of sex and desire and ordinary love, of existential doubt and model rocketry, of the shining aspirations and demonic underpinnings of American technological accomplishment at mid-century and, above all, of the destructive impact—and the creative power—of the keeping of secrets and the telling of lies. A gripping, poignant, tragicomic, scrupulously researched and wholly imaginary transcript of a life that spanned the dark heart of the twentieth century, Moonglow is also a tour de force of speculative history in which Chabon attempts to reconstruct the mysterious origins and fate of Chabon Scientific, Co., an authentic mail-order novelty company whose ads for scale models of human skeletons, combustion engines and space rockets were once a fixture in the back pages of Esquire, Popular Mechanics and Boy’s Life. Along the way Chabon devises and reveals, in bits and pieces whose hallucinatory intensity is matched only by their comic vigor and the radiant moonglow of his prose, a secret history of his own imagination. From the Jewish slums of prewar South Philadelphia to the invasion of Germany, from a Florida retirement village to the penal utopia of New York’s Wallkill Prison, from the heyday of the space program to the twilight of “the American Century,” Moonglow collapses an era into a single life and a lifetime into a single week. A lie that tells the truth, a work of fictional non-fiction, an autobiography wrapped in a novel disguised as a memoir, Moonglow is Chabon at his most daring, his most moving, his most Chabonesque.

Canadian Expeditionary Force, 1914-1919 by G.W.L. Nicholson,Mark Osborne Humphries Pdf

Colonel G.W.L. Nicholson's Canadian Expeditionary Force, 1914-1919 was first published by the Department of National Defence in 1962 as the official history of the Canadian Army’s involvement in the First World War. Immediately after the war ended Colonel A. Fortescue Duguid made a first attempt to write an official history of the war, but the ill-fated project produced only the first of an anticipated eight volumes. Decades later, G.W.L. Nicholson - already the author of an official history of the Second World War - was commissioned to write a new official history of the First. Illustrated with numerous photographs and full-colour maps, Nicholson’s text offers an authoritative account of the war effort, while also discussing politics on the home front, including debates around conscription in 1917. With a new critical introduction by Mark Osborne Humphries that traces the development of Nicholson’s text and analyzes its legacy, Canadian Expeditionary Force, 1914-1919 is an essential resource for both professional historians and military history enthusiasts.

A Source Book for Mediaeval History : Selected Documents illustrating the History of Europe in the Middle Age by Oliver J. Thatcher,Edgar Holmes McNeal Pdf

A Source Book for Mediaeval History : Selected Documents illustrating the History of Europe in the Middle Age It will be observed that we have made use chiefly of documents, quoting from chronicles only when it seemed absolutely necessary. An exception to this general principle is found in section I, where a larger use of chronicles was rendered necessary by the lack of documentary sources for much of the period covered; but it is perhaps unnecessary to apologize for presenting selections from the important histories of Tacitus, Gregory, Einhard, and Widukind. In the matter of form (translation, omissions, arrangements, notes, etc.), we were guided by considerations of the purpose of the book. The style of most of the documents in the original is involved, obscure, bombastic, and repetitious. A faithful rendition into English would often be quite unintelligible. We have endeavored to make a clear and readable translation, but always to give the correct meaning. If we have failed in the latter it is not for want of constant effort. We have not hesitated to omit phrases and clauses, often of a parenthetical nature, the presence of which in the translation would only render the passage obscure and obstruct the thought. As a rule we have given the full text of the body of the document, but we have generally omitted the first and last paragraphs, the former containing usually titles and pious generalities, and the latter being composed of lists of witnesses, etc. We have given a sufficient number of the documents in full to illustrate these features of mediæval diplomatics. All but the most trivial omissions in the text (which are matters rather of form of translation) are indicated thus: ... Insertions in the text to explain the meaning of phrases are inclosed in brackets [ ]. Quotations from the Bible are regularly given in the words of the Authorized Version, but where the Latin (taken from the Vulgate) differs in any essential manner, we have sometimes translated the passage literally. Within each section the documents are arranged in chronological order, except in a few cases where the topical arrangement seemed necessary. We believe that the explanatory notes in the form of introductions and foot-notes will be found of service; they are by no means exhaustive, but are intended to explain the setting and importance of the document and the difficult or obscure passages it may contain. The reference to the work or the collection in which the original is found is given after the title of practically every document; the meaning of the references will be plain from the accompanying bibliography. The original of nearly all the documents is in Latin; some few are in Greek, Old French, or German, and in such cases the language of the original is indicated. It is impossible, of course, to give explicit directions as to the use of the book, other than the very obvious methods of requiring the student to read and analyze the documents assigned in connection with the lesson in the text-book, and of making clear to him the relation of the document to the event. It may be possible also for the teacher to give the student some notion of the meaning of "historical method"; e.g., the necessity of making allowance for the ignorance or the bias of the author in chronicles, or the way in which a knowledge of institutions is deduced from incidental references in documents. Suggestions of both sorts will be found in the introduction and notes. The teacher should insist on the use of such helps as are found in the book: notes, cross-references, glossary, etc. Groups of documents can be used to advantage in topical work: assigned topics worked up from authorities can be illustrated by documents selected from the book; e.g., imperial elections, papal elections, the Normans in Sicily, history of the Austrian dominions, Germans and Slavs on the eastern frontier, relations of the emperors and the popes before the investiture strife, etc.

Desperation: Ceejay's Absolution by Linzi Basset Pdf

This is the first of six books in the Club Wicked Cove series. Desperation is a story about Colt Fargo, the owner of Club Wicked Cove, and Ceejay Powell, a woman driven by the demons in her past to join the lifestyle in an effort to find absolution for her guilt. Colt happens upon Lady Silver involved in a scene that contravenes the ethics of his club and sets out to find what motivates her to demand such a scene each and every time, subsequently giving her an ultimatum that she must accept if she wants to remain a member of the club. The instantaneous attraction between them sends Colt on a mission to break through the wall to assuage the pain in Ceejay’s heart. In his quest, she finds the key to his guarded past and soon they are both fighting off the siege of emotions that threatens to overwhelm them. By a quirk of fate, their dark association with the mob soon jeopardizes the solace that Colt Fargo has found in obscurity in the backwater town of Jacksonville, Texas in his quest to escape the life he once led as a reluctant member of a powerful American crime family whose long tentacles are now within striking distance of reeling him back in and squeezing the life out of Ceejay Powell.
