Diagnostic Pathology: Neuropathology by Josh Vaughan Pdf

Neuropathology is a subspecialty of anatomic pathology that is concerned with the study of the diseases of nervous system tissue, with the aid of surgical biopsies and autopsies. This field is closely associated with the clinical domains of neurology and neurosurgery which refer to neuropathological results for making a diagnosis. If a neuropathy is suspected and less invasive methods cannot deliver a diagnosis, a biopsy of nervous tissue from the brain or spinal cord is taken to aid in the diagnosis. When a mass is detected by medical imaging, a biopsy is generally requested. The post-mortem diagnosis of dementia and other conditions of the central nervous system is also within the scope of this field. This book includes some of the vital pieces of work being conducted across the world, on various topics related to neuropathology. While understanding the long-term perspectives of the topics, the book makes an effort in highlighting their impacts as a modern tool for the understanding of neuropathy. It will serve as a valuable source of reference for graduate and post graduate students in diagnostic pathology.

Practical Surgical Neuropathology: A Diagnostic Approach E-Book by Arie Perry,Daniel J. Brat Pdf

Part of the in-depth and practical Pattern Recognition series, Practical Surgical Neuropathology, 2nd Edition, by Drs. Arie Perry and Daniel J. Brat, helps you arrive at an accurate CNS diagnosis by using a pattern-based approach. Leading diagnosticians in neuropathology guide you from a histological (and/or clinical, radiologic, and molecular) pattern, through the appropriate work-up, around the pitfalls, and to the best diagnosis. Almost 2,000 high-quality illustrations capture key neuropathological patterns for a full range of common and rare conditions, and a "visual index" at the beginning of the book directs you to the exact location of in-depth diagnostic guidance. Instructive algorithms provide detailed guidance based on 8 major (scanning magnification) patterns and 20 minor (high magnification) patterns – helping you narrow the range of diagnostic possibilities. A user-friendly design color-codes patterns to specific entities, and key points are summarized in tables, charts, and graphs so you can quickly and easily find what you are looking for. Sweeping content updates keep you at the forefront of recent findings regarding gliomas, embryonal neoplasms, meningiomas, pituitary region and pineal tumors, epilepsy pathology, peripheral nerve sheath tumors, neurodegenerative disorders, tumor predisposition syndromes, and much more. Improved pattern call-outs are now linked directly within the chapter, reinforcing the patterns for more efficient and complete understanding.

Diagnostic Neuropathology by Julio H. Garcia,Julio Escalona-Zapata,Uriel Sandbank,Jorge Cervos-Navarro Pdf

Every year dozens of physicians-in-training face, for the first time, the responsibil ity of examining and diagnosing central nervous system tumors or biopsies of the central nervous system, the peripheral nerves or muscles, whose surgical resection has been decided on both as a form of treatment (in the case of tumors) and as means to confirm a presumptive diagnosis. The selection of the most appropriate form of post surgical treatment for most tumors is predicated on the precise identification of the tumor cells. The evaluation of the specimen, by a pathologist, will not only determine whether the lesion is truly neoplastic, but also whether there are histologic indicators of malig nancy. Moreover, in some cases, the pathologist will be asked to determine whether the tumor cells contain certain hormone precursors or receptors, as an example. Recognition of many of the features that one must search for requires the judicious application of methods that may not be readily known to the physicians involved in the various diagnostic procedures. The handling and processing of the tissues as they arrive in the pathology laboratory for the above reasons vary as a function of the organ (or site) of origin of a given tumor as well as a function of the presumptive clinical diagnosis. The material contained in this book series has been organized in an attempt to help the pathologists-in-training, the general pathologists, the neurosurgeons, and neu rologists to understand the logic behind such special requirements.

The author also discusses more general aspects of smears, including their preparation and general interpretation. Emphasis is on the structural information about brain lesions supplied by the technique of smears, as well as the patterns of smears produced by different tumors. More than 200 full-color illustrations complement the text.
