Diagnostic Imaging and Radiology in Physiotherapy by Andreas Christe,Johannes Heverhagen,Dominik Sieroń Pdf

Imaging diagnostics is now becoming an important and indispensable element of qualifications for physiotherapy and planning the process of physiotherapy and rehabilitation. It is a valuable complement to, and sometimes the basis for, tests or designation of various goals of physiotherapy. It is also the basis of any knowledge about the skilful and reliable use of selected methods of physiotherapy. This volume addresses the need of the moment regarding the lack of comprehensive studies across the globe concerning the use of imaging diagnostics in the physiotherapy process. It will not only contribute to a more complete functional assessment of the patient in comprehensive physiotherapy processes, but will also be the basis for the emergence of a diagnostic standard in the treatment of the patient. This is all the more important because the ever-increasing independence of the physiotherapist’s profession is burdened with huge, progressive responsibility.

Diagnosis and Management of Lameness in the Horse - E-Book by Michael W. Ross,Sue J. Dyson Pdf

Covering many different diagnostic tools, this essential resource explores both traditional treatments and alternative therapies for conditions that can cause gait abnormalities in horses. Broader in scope than any other book of its kind, this edition describes equine sporting activities and specific lameness conditions in major sport horse types, and includes up-to-date information on all imaging modalities. This title includes additional digital media when purchased in print format. For this digital book edition, media content may not be included. Cutting-edge information on diagnostic application for computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging includes the most comprehensive section available on MRI in the live horse. Coverage of traditional treatment modalities also includes many aspects of alternative therapy, with a practical and realistic perspective on prognosis. An examination of the various types of horses used in sports describes the lameness conditions to which each horse type is particularly prone, as well as differences in prognosis. Guidelines on how to proceed when a diagnosis cannot easily be reached help you manage conditions when faced with the limitations of current diagnostic capabilities. Clinical examination and diagnostic analgesia are given a special emphasis. Practical, hands-on information covers a wide range of horse types from around the world. A global perspective is provided by a team of international authors, editors, and contributors. A full-color insert shows thermography images. Updated chapters include the most current information on topics such as MRI, foot pain, stem cell therapy, and shock wave treatment. Two new chapters include The Biomechanics of the Equine Limb and its Effect on Lameness and Clinical Use of Stem Cells, Marrow Components, and Other Growth Factors. The chapter on the hock has been expanded substantially, and the section on lameness associated with the foot has been completely rewritten to include state-of-the-art information based on what has been learned from MRI. Many new figures appear throughout the book.

The Hand in Psychological Diagnosis by Charlotte Wolff Pdf

Originally published in 1951, this title looks at the study of the hand in relation to psychological diagnosis. This was at the time a new branch of psychology and the author is keen to point out it must not be viewed as perfect or indeed complete. Practical experience and a deeper understanding of psycho-motor phenomena had altered some of the author’s theoretical views since the earlier titles. This book builds on and extends her previous research, including new research studies particularly on children who were at the time termed ‘mentally defective’. It was designed to contribute some new diagnostic possibilities to psychology and psychiatry. Today we can enjoy it as part of psychology’s history.

Prognostication in the Medieval World by Matthias Heiduk,Klaus Herbers,Hans-Christian Lehner Pdf

Two opposing views of the future in the Middle Ages dominate recent historical scholarship. According to one opinion, medieval societies were expecting the near end of the world and therefore had no concept of the future. According to the other opinion, the expectation of the near end created a drive to change the world for the better and thus for innovation. Close inspection of the history of prognostication reveals the continuous attempts and multifold methods to recognize and interpret God’s will, the prodigies of nature, and the patterns of time. That proves, on the one hand, the constant human uncertainty facing the contingencies of the future. On the other hand, it demonstrates the firm believe during the Middle Ages in a future which could be shaped and even manipulated. The handbook provides the first overview of current historical research on medieval prognostication. It considers the entangled influences and transmissions between Christian, Jewish, Islamic, and non-monotheistic societies during the period from a wide range of perspectives. An international team of 63 renowned authors from about a dozen different academic disciplines contributed to this comprehensive overview.

Collected Works of Charlotte Wolff by Charlotte Wolff Pdf

Charlotte Wolff (1897-1986) was born in Riesenburg, West Prussia (now Prabuty, Poland) into a middle-class Jewish family. She studied philosophy and then medicine at several German universities, completing her doctorate in Berlin in 1926. Working in various institutions over the next few years, she was also interested in psychotherapy and had a small private medical and psychotherapeutic practice. In 1933 she was forced to leave Germany because of the Nazi regime, and settled for a few years in Paris. As a German refugee she was unable to practice medicine, so she began her research into the correlation between hand traits and personality. In 1936 she went to London to continue her research work and lived there until her death. An active lesbian from an early age, her later research turned to sexology and her writing on lesbianism and bisexuality were influential early works in the field. This is a great opportunity to rediscover her early work, including her first autobiography.
