Digging in the Dark by Ben W. Johnson Pdf

Progress can be unstoppable at times, and not even death can prevent the desire for knowledge. A dark trade has long existed to provide fuel for the fires of research, a trade which is viewed by many as the most despicable occupation of all.The resurrection men of Yorkshire came from all walks of life, and employed a myriad of macabre methods to raise their defenseless prey from beneath the consecrated ground. This was a trade which offered great reward, but was definitely not for the faint of heart.Throughout this journey into the dark past of Yorkshire, we meet an infamous celebrity who made an unexpected reappearance, a traveling minstrel who was to become the talk of many towns, a child whose death was just the beginning of a tragic tale, and a holy man who helped a community but earned his own illicit rewards in return. Also to be raised from the dead are a number of explosive events, all of which lit a fire beneath the local communities and led the people of Yorkshire to the streets in violent protest. A medical school reduced to ashes, a gang of professionals moonlighting in the darkest occupation, and a scandal which would engulf a city many years after the threat of the body snatchers had been all but ended.Spanning over almost three centuries, this grim compendium of tales casts a shadow over the beauty of Yorkshire, a dark veil which reaches out in all directions, threatening the peace of the dearly departed across the length and breadth of the nations largest county.

Dig by A.S. King Pdf

Winner of the Michael L. Printz Medal ★“King’s narrative concerns are racism, patriarchy, colonialism, white privilege, and the ingrained systems that perpetuate them. . . . [Dig] will speak profoundly to a generation of young people who are waking up to the societal sins of the past and working toward a more equitable future.”—Horn Book, starred review “I’ve never understood white people who can’t admit they’re white. I mean, white isn’t just a color. And maybe that’s the problem for them. White is a passport. It’s a ticket.” Five estranged cousins are lost in a maze of their family’s tangled secrets. Their grandparents, former potato farmers Gottfried and Marla Hemmings, managed to trade digging spuds for developing subdivisions and now they sit atop a million-dollar bank account—wealth they’ve refused to pass on to their adult children or their five teenage grandchildren. “Because we want them to thrive,” Marla always says. But for the Hemmings cousins, “thriving” feels a lot like slowly dying of a poison they started taking the moment they were born. As the rot beneath the surface of the Hemmings’ white suburban respectability destroys the family from within, the cousins find their ways back to one another, just in time to uncover the terrible cost of maintaining the family name. With her inimitable surrealism, award winner A.S. King exposes how a toxic culture of polite white supremacy tears a family apart and how one determined generation can dig its way out.

The Great Bible Dig by Bonnie M. Gulan Pdf

Some 40 years ago, I, as a searching, seeking, questioning, mortal started with studying the Bible. The Old and New Testaments. Then, just the New Testament, then just Jesus’ Sayings. I then started to dig back into the New Testament where I found just the sayings of Mary, Joseph, John the Baptist and compared their contents and volume to Just the Sayings of Jesus... What I found led me to continue digging on into the writing letters–Epistles of Paul and Peter, etc. These excavations and Scriptural expose, which some might even call controversial, have been collected into what I call The Great Bible Dig. Dig One of The Great Bible Dig uncovers some interesting questions concerning the Brain, Life and Jesus and allows the reader to ask the question WHY. Dig Two of The Great Bible Dig uncovers Words, puzzling words as well as preserving words and allows the reader to ask the question WHAT. Dig Three of The Great Bible Dig allows one to SEARCH, His Sayings and your thinkings, and will give the reader a useful alternative for changing one's thought and thinkings. Dig Four of The Great Bible Dig allows one to SEEK His Light, His Truth and His Righteousness .

Working Terriers, Badgers and Badger Digging (History of Hunting Series) by H. H. King Pdf

This title was first published in 1931 and is now an extremely rare and sought after item in its first edition. It is now available again to all true terrier men in a revised edition published by Read Country Books. This new edition incorporates the original format plus 20 extra pages containing articles and vintage photos on the same subject. Its 130 pages of historical content contain much detailed information on the working terrier and its use in what was once an acceptable and legal field sport. The first section of the book is devoted to the Working Terrier. The author discusses the qualities and physical attributes that constitute a first class worker. He writes sensibly and with a confidence born from years of practical experience. This section then leads into a chapter of advice on the early training of terriers with much emphasis on the natural progression of their learning curve. This training period also entails the hunting of, and entering to, the rat, fox, and otter. A short chapter deals with the natural history and habits of the badger, then continues at some length with the methods and equipment used in the actual dig. The author points out that the terms "badger-digging" and "badger-baiting" should not be considered synonymous. In his opinion, "If properly conducted, badger-digging is no more cruel a sport than shooting or ratting" The final chapter is a comprehensive discourse on the care and handling of the Working Terrier. Following that are two rare articles, never before reprinted - "HUNTING BROCK THE BADGER" by J.C. Bristow-Noble (author of Working Terriers) and "THE BADGERS OF BADGWORTHY". They both contain much interesting information and many original, vintage photographs. The book is a fascinating look back at a vanished time and an excellent manual on the working terrier, with much information that is still of practical use today.

Digging for Richard III: The Search for the Lost King (Revised and Expanded) by Mike Pitts Pdf

"As gripping as any detective fiction. Proof that one doesn't need to be fascinated with Richard III to be enthralled by the story of his body's discovery." —Publisher's Weekly In August 2012 a search began, and on February 4, 2013, a team from Leicester University delivered its verdict to a mesmerized press room and to the world: they had found the remains of Richard III, whose legacy was perhaps the most contested of all British monarchs. Prior to this major discovery, there had been little new information about Richard III for some time. With no new evidence to fuel it, the debate over what kind of man he might have been seemed to have stalled. Thus the story of the discovery of Richard III is a story of the value of archaeology—careful analysis of physical evidence backed up by the latest science and technology—and how it can change our understanding of history. Firsthand accounts from the team that found the king, along with photographs from the author’s own archives and an expanded epilogue incorporating new DNA evidence, augment this compelling detective story as the evidence is uncovered.
