Disaster Medicine Pocket Guide: 50 Essential Questions by Henri F Julien Pdf

A very handy practical book written by French doctors specialised in disaster medicine, this guide offers their core experience condensed in 50 small, easily digestible chapters. Each chapter is designed to enable the reader to “know”, “understand”, and learn what to “do” in the concerned situation, ensuring the crucial information is easily on hand and available. Facing disasters, whether natural or man-made, technological or social, what are the risks and the consequences of such hazards on victims? What kind of care to provide? How to get organised, to have the appropriate resources, and to protect oneself as a responder? The French emergency and healthcare preparedness has followed a unique path. The responding medical doctors have followed in the footsteps of Dominique Larrey, a military surgeon and the father of emergency medicine. For him, the on-scene presence of doctors is paramount to organise the entire healthcare and emergency response, an innovative method that has proven its efficacy. This book is intended for all healthcare and emergency staff, doctors, paramedics or first aiders in ambulances or in emergency services who might come to deal with a massive influx of injured, poisoned, or traumatised victims. The management of multiple concomitant emergencies requires specific know-how and skills. May this guide contribute to the dissemination of a validated French know-how and thus to save lives and alleviate suffering.

Divine Doctors and Dreadful Distempers by Christi Sumich Pdf

Divine Doctors and Dreadful Distempers examines the discourse of seventeenth-century English physicians to demonstrate that physicians utilized cultural attitudes and beliefs to create medical theory. They meshed moralism with medicine to self-fashion an image of themselves as knowledgeable health experts whose education assured good judgment and sage advice, and whose interest in the health of their patients surpassed the peddling of a single nostrum to everyone. The combination of morality with medicine gave them the support of the influential godly in society because physicians’ theories about disease and its prevention supported contemporary concerns that sinfulness was rampant. Particularly disturbing to the godly were sins deemed most threatening to the social order: lasciviousness, ungodliness, and unruliness, all of which were most clearly and threateningly manifested in the urban poor. Physicians’ medical theories and suggestions for curbing some of the most feared and destructive diseases in the seventeenth century, most notably plague and syphilis, focused on reforming or incarcerating the sick and sinful poor. Doing so helped propel physicians to an elevated position in the hierarchy of healers competing for patients in seventeenth-century England.

Heal Thy World by DR PK SASIDHARAN Pdf

This book ‘Heal-Thy World’, a manifesto for ‘Individual Health’, ‘Social Health’ ‘Healthy India’, ‘Healthy World’ and ‘ONE HEALTH’, contains untold secrets of health care for doctors, health care professionals, policymakers and public health activists. The author has a dream for the world. According to him, health cannot be achieved or maintained in compartments, neither in a body, nor in any single society alone. Social health is becoming a neglected orphan in countries like India, mostly as an outcome of neglected primary health care. Health care is NOT only disease care. Diseases are multiplying disproportionately as compared to population growth, and the lack of proper human development and social security are the key issues that are leading to this unprecedented rise. Healthy individuals in a society reflect proper social security and human development in that society. Lack of prioritization and poor distribution of wealth and human resources are seen everywhere. Promotion of health and wellness and cost effective disease care is optimally possible only with trained family doctors. Medical education should focus on bringing out more of them to help control the spread of disease and to promote health and wellness. Additionally, medical research should focus on the social aspects of health and wellness and not just on drug trials and technology alone. The human species might be extinct if we do not make changes soon. Action plans are needed to build a healthy world, and democratic socialism may be the viable solution. This book also discusses the points needed to design a health policy that will benefit society at large.
