Dolce Famiglia by David Rocco Pdf

A tavola non si invecchia. At the table (with good friends and family) you do not grow old. In his first two bestselling cookbooks, David Rocco’s Dolce Vita and Made in Italy, celebrity chef and author David Rocco gave readers delicious traditional Italian recipes that any home cook can master. His inspiration, as always: the fresh, simple cooking of the Italian Cucina Povera, or peasant cuisine, that has inspired people around the world. He continues that trend with David Rocco’s Dolce Famiglia. This book is all about family cooking. Dolce Famiglia includes many of David’s family-friendly recipes, running the gamut from essential sauces every home cook should have in their repertoire to snacks, salads, mains and desserts that he makes for his own family. But more than that, the book pays tribute to the people who have inspired him, by telling their stories and sharing their recipes. Dolce Famiglia explores family cooking and heritage foods from across Italy, focusing on the families who have worked as food purveyors over generations. Featuring the richly textured photography and gorgeous design of the previous titles, Dolce Famiglia looks at the stories behind such iconic and delicious Italian exports as parmigiano reggiano, gelato and balsamic vinegar, offering the kind of treasured, always-in-the-family recipes that are such a hallmark of Italian cuisine. As David puts it, “At the end of the day ingredients don’t have hearts and souls. It’s the people and the families who pour their blood, sweat and tears into the making of these iconic products. It’s families who are the gatekeepers to this traditional style of cooking.”

The Canzoniere by Francesco Petrarca Pdf

Francesco Petrarca (1304-74) has been described as the 'first modern man of letters' and his influence on the European lyric tradition has been widespread. The poems of his Canzoniere, closely associated as they are with the enigmatic figure of Laura, were soon to become the models for love-poetry in nearly all major European literatures in the Renaissance. The new translations here use the same rhyme schemes and broadly the same metres as those used by Petrarch himself. The facing English texts are thus not intended to be absolutely literal, but to reflect the inner meanings and moods of the originals, with some further literal translations of difficult passages added in the notes. The notes to the poems also cover their likely dates, mythological allusions, certain background settings, and a number of other calendrical and structural features which appear to emerge from the actual sequencing of the collection itself. There is also a section on old Italian syntax. and other linguistic aids. The new translation of Petrarch's Rerum Vulgarian Fragmenta is in two separate volumes.

The Complete Poems by Gaspara Stampa Pdf

Gaspara Stampa (1523?-1554) is one of the finest female poets ever to write in Italian. Although she was lauded for her singing during her lifetime, her success and critical reputation as a poet emerged only after her verse was republished in the early eighteenth century. Her poetry runs the gamut of human emotion, ranging from ecstasy over a consummated love affair to despair at its end. While these tormented works and their multiple male addressees have led to speculation that Stampa may have been one of Venice’s famous courtesans, they can also be read as a rebuttal of typical assumptions about women’s roles. Championed by Rainer Maria Rilke, among others, she has more recently been celebrated by feminist scholars for her distinctive and original voice and her challenge to convention. The first complete translation of Stampa into English, this volume collects all of her passionate and lyrical verse. It is also the first modern critical edition of her poems, and in restoring the original sequence of the 1554 text, it allows readers the opportunity to encounter Stampa as she intended. Jane Tylus renders Stampa’s verse in precise and graceful English translations, allowing a new generation of students and scholars of poetry, Renaissance literature, and music history to rediscover this incipiently modern Italian poet.
