Firewalker by Allyson James,Jennifer Ashley Pdf

My day bursts into chaos when a Changer charges into my hotel, attacking me with a message spell. I have to obey the message, whether I like it or not. But that’s okay, because it’s from Mick, my dragon boyfriend, guiding me to Death Valley where he’s been imprisoned by the Dragon Council. Rescuing him takes all my strength, not to mention the wild magics I inherited from my evil-goddess mom, plus Nash, the sheriff who’s impervious to magic. But once Mick is free, he tells me he’s bound to the Dragon Council to appear at a trial for breaking dragon law. He’s already been found guilty, and now they’ll sentence him, and maybe, just maybe, they’ll let him live. Forget that. I’ll do anything in my power to keep Mick safe from the sticks-up-their-dragon-tails Council, even if it means letting forth my goddess power, and challenging the likes of Coyote, all my new friends, and even Mick himself. On top of this, a stranger who stayed at my hotel got himself murdered, and I have to figure out who did it as well as stop the guy, who keeps stubbornly coming back to life. It’s always something at my Crossroads hotel, where magic is real, and the paranormal is normal.

I’m a Stormwalker—which means I can use the power of storms to work some wild and wicked magic. I’ve opened a hotel in a little town in the desert, where powerful vortexes house dangerous and evil beings that I need to make sure stay put. Stormalker When I’m attacked one night on the open road, an innocent bystander is killed—cousin of the local sheriff, who’s not too happy with me. I try to warn him of the continuing danger, but he’s curiously oblivious—for reasons I find out later. The attack also alerts my on-again, off-again boyfriend, Mick, the man I made myself walk away from years ago. Now he’s back, and I have to decide whether to give into my intense cravings for him or continue to fight alone. Firewalker My day bursts into chaos when a Changer charges into my hotel, attacking me with a message spell. I have to obey the message, whether I like it or not. Shadow Walker The world falls from beneath me—literally—one winter night when I’m racing down the road on my beloved motorcycle. I tumble into a huge sinkhole, followed by the sheriff, who’s doggedly chasing me. I find myself in a cavern covered with evil petroglyphs that are intent on killing me … From that harrowing situation I go to another even more dire: A hotel inspector who seems bent on putting me out of business. Add to this, my evil little sister has surfaced to tangle with me, and now Mick, my dragon boyfriend, is acting mysterious and scary. Only the magic mirror, my interfering grandmother, and my new cook seem to know what’s going on, all of them telling me that Mick has been touched by shadows.

Handbook of Infant, Toddler, and Preschool Mental Health Assessment by Rebecca DelCarmen-Wiggins,Alice Carter Pdf

The Handbook of Infant, Toddler, and Preschool Mental Health Assessment brings together, for the first time, leading clinical researchers to provide empirically based recommendations for assessment of social-emotional and behavior problems and disorders in the earliest years. Each author presents state-of-the-art information on scientifically valid, developmentally based clinical assessments and makes recommendations based on the integration of developmental theory, empirical findings, and clinical experience. Though the field of mental health assessment in infants and young children lags behind work with older children and adults, recent scientific advances, including new measures and diagnostic approaches, have led to dramatic growth in the field. The editors of this exciting new work have assembled an extraordinary collection of chapters that thoroughly discuss the conceptualizations of dysfunction in infants and young children, current and new diagnostic criteria, and such specific disorders as sensory modulation dysfunction, sleep disorders, eating and feeding disorders, autistic spectrum disorders, anxiety disorders, posttraumatic stress disorder, and ADHD. Chapters further highlight the importance of incorporating contextual factors such as parent-child relationship functioning and cultural background into the assessment process to increase the validity of findings. Given the comprehensiveness of this groundbreaking volume in reviewing conceptual, methodological, and research advances on early identification, diagnosis, and clinical assessment of disorders in this young age group, it will be an ideal resource for teachers, researchers, and a wide variety clinicians including child psychologists, child psychiatrists, early intervention providers, early special educators, social workers, family physicians, and pediatricians.

Measurement of Executive Function in Early Childhood by Clancy Blair,Philip D. Zelazo,Mark T. Greenberg Pdf

During the past decade, a rising interest has emerged in aspects of the broad construct of executive function (EF) in childhood. This has transpired as research has discovered that the development of EF is particularly rapid during early childhood, and that the healthy development of EF appears to play a key role in children’s developing social competence and academic and social readiness to attend school. The articles presented in this special issue help advance our understanding of the development of EF, as well as the challenges researchers face when attempting to characterize an aspect of cognition in very young children. Ultimately, this special issue illuminates the many ways in which children come to exhibit age-appropriate levels of social and cognitive competence.

Development of executive function during childhood by Yusuke Moriguchi,Philip D Zelazo,Nicolas Chevalier Pdf

Executive function refers to the goal-oriented regulation of one’s own thoughts, actions, and emotions. Its importance is attested by its contribution to the development of other cognitive skills (e.g., theory of mind), social abilities (e.g., peer interactions), and academic achievement (e.g., mathematics), and by the consequences of deficits in executive function (which are observed in wide range of developmental disorders, such as attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder and autism). Over the last decade, there have been growing interest in the development of executive function, and an expanding body of research has shown that executive function develops rapidly during the preschool years, with adult-level performance being achieved during adolescence or later. This recent work, together with experimental research showing the effects of interventions targeting executive function, has yielded important insights into the neurocognitive processes underlying executive function. Given the complexity of the construct of executive function, however, and the multiplicity of underlying processes, there are often inconsistencies in the way that executive function is defined and studied. This inconsistency has hampered communication among researchers from various fields. This Research Topic is intended to bridge this gap and provide an opportunity for researchers from different perspectives to discuss recent advances in understanding childhood executive function. Researchers using various methods, including, behavioral experiments, neuroimaging, eye-tracking, computer simulation, observational methods, and questionnaires, are encouraged to contribute original empirical research. In addition to original empirical articles, theoretical reviews and opinions/perspective articles on promising future directions are welcome. We hope that researchers from different areas, such as developmental psychology, educational psychology, experimental psychology, neuropsychology, neuroscience, psychiatry, computational science, etc., will be represented in the Research Topic.

Three Tasks for a Dragon by Eoin Colfer Pdf

With wit and gorgeous art, New York Times best-selling author Eoin Colfer and multi-award-winning illustrator P.J. Lynch team up again for a quest story of knights, dark magic, and a maiden with powers of her own. Studious Prince Lir is next in line to become the Wolfhound King, but he can’t ride a horse, lift a sword, or summon the fabled wolfhounds. So his stepmother decrees that her own son will inherit the crown instead, sending Lir away on a seemingly impossible—and assuredly fatal—quest: to rescue the maiden Cethlenn from the once-fearsome dragon Lasvarg. Rather than wage battle, Lir insists that Lasvarg, now decidedly past his prime, honor tradition by setting him three tasks to perform—starting with tackling the mold encrusting the dragon’s cave (and his feet!). As Lir improves Lasvarg’s life, he also grows closer to Cethlenn . . . as well as the wolfhound puppy strangely devoted to her. In time, they learn more of the dark magic that may be making pawns of them all—and how Cethlenn herself could be the key to breaking a spell that clouds the entire kingdom. With transporting language and a magnificent dragon masterfully rendered with a range of emotions, Eoin Colfer and P.J. Lynch make their own magic in this classic fantasy with a light feminist twist.
