How to Learn and Memorize English Vocabulary ... Using a Memory Palace Specifically Designed for the English Language (and adaptable to many other languages too) Special Edition for ESL Students If you'd like to improve your ability to learn English vocabulary by as much as 100%, 200%, even 300% (or more) ... using simple memory techniques that they can learn in 15-20 minutes (or less), then this may be the most important book that you will ever read on your journey to English proficiency. Believe it or not, it doesn't matter if you think you have a good memory or not. The information in this book will teach you: * Why memory is like a bicycle everyone can ride (with some minor personal adjustments). * The real reason why no one should ever be squeamish about memorization or learning a language. * Why and how some of the most famous memory skills are applicable to learning any language, especially English. * How you can easily create a 26 "letter location" memory system based on the English alphabet. * Unique techniques that will have you literally "tuning in" on the English language. * How to separate English words in the most effective manner for memorization. * Two secret ways you can use relaxation to aid the memorization process. These two methods alone are worth the price of this book because they will literally eliminate the stress and apprehension English learners face when struggling to learn English vocabulary. * And much, much more ... These techniques have been used by real language learners, most of whom previously considered themselves owners of a "bad memory," to make real strides in learning English vocabulary. Don't worry! None of these techniques are rocket science. Frankly, if you can memorize a short email address or the name of a movie, then you can use this system to memorize a language as rich and diverse as English. Plus, everything you'll learn in this book applies to every other language that shares the same alphabet with English. And with a little imagination, the ideas are easily transferable to other alphabet systems too. But there's really no time to lose. Every day that you are not using this simple vocabulary memorization system, you are literally stealing from yourself the joy of being able to read, speak and recall an abundance of English vocabulary as you easily expand the natural abilities of your mind.

Mnemonic Words for Remembering GRE Vocabulary by Xuhua Chen Pdf

Believe it or not the mnemonic technique used in this book is possibly the most simple and powerful in remembering the meaning of difficult words. Here's how it works: Take the word ABUT, which means to lie adjacent to another or share a boundary. All you need to do is to use the mnemonic link words provided by the book to form a sentence or phrase to remember it. We have the following as the first example: ABUT - (v.) to lie adjacent to another or share a boundary ABUT = A Border Unites Turkey. The first letters of the above sentence match each letter of ABUT. You don't need to be genius to work out how effective this is. What you need is some more examples: IMP - (n.) (folklore) fairies that are somewhat mischievous (n.) one who is playfully mischievous IMP = Infant Must Play HIVE - (n.) a teeming multitude (n.) a man-made receptacle that houses a swarm of bees (n.) a structure that provides a natural habitation for bees HIVE = Honey Is Very Expensive Rouge - (n.) makeup consisting of a pink or red powder applied to the cheeks (v.) redden by applying rouge to ROUGE = Red Onions Usually Get Eaten PAUCITY - (n.) an insufficient quantity or number PAUCITY = Poor And Ugly CITY Check out the book and you will have more surprise. Dictionary Mnemonics by Talia Swinton Pdf

Upgrade your English Vocabulary Today! If you swallowed a dictionary and somehow transferred all its contents into your brain, you would be unstoppable. This book makes that happen in a much less extreme way! Most books that help you prepare for the SAT or the GRE are either compendia or word lists and flashcards, or have multiple choice questions on the lines of those featured in these tests.Very few books concentrate on fun exercises to build up the skills required to become better, organically, at verbal and vocabulary skills in English. This book fills the gap.Within this book, you will find multiple fun games and exercises that help you recognize patterns and guess some of the harder words on the tests, and link them to their definitions. Here are a few key features of the approach used:1. Gamification: In each part of each exercise, you are given a set of clues about a word, one of which is always linked to its definition. This gamification approach is key to making you come back, Exercise Set after Exercise Set, to master hundreds of useful new words by the end of the entire book.2. Pattern recognition: The clues are carefully chosen so that they link to key properties of a word that help you remember it quickly in a test scenario. For example, the first letter of a word, its length, and its approximate meaning are all patterns that help us create mental shortcuts to quick + intuitive guesses. These are exactly what the word clues are based on, and they will benefit you in skill building, through an indirect approach - just like working out a group of muscles in the gym gives you muscle gains weeks later!3. Graded difficulty increase: The pool of words used for this book is carefully curated - you will start off with challenging but commonly used words for the most part, and graduate to more obscure words in a slowly staged manner. All the while, we will sprinkle in a few words related to those you have mastered in earlier Exercise Sets, so that you are able to build on what you have learnt earlier. By the end of the book, you will be ready for anything that a real standardized test can throw at you - both in terms of skills and confidence.4. Unique proprietary format: The format of questions used in this book cannot be found anywhere else - it has been tried and tested with thousands of students, and works every single time.Whether you are looking to strengthen your verbal skills in English for a test, or just looking to do this out of interest, this book is for you.

Gre Vocab Capacity by Vince Kotchian,Brian McElroy Pdf

2015 version published on 12/29/14. Need a good way to remember that the word "prodigal" means "wasteful"? Just think ofprada gal - a girl who spends all of her money on designer clothes. Brian McElroy (Harvard, '02) and Vince Kotchian (Boston College, '97), two of San Diego's most sought after test-prep tutors, provide a series of clever, unconventional, and funny memory devices aimed toward helping you to improve your vocabulary and remember words long-term so that you don't ever forget their meanings. Brian and Vince, combined, have been tutoring the test for over 20 years. They have analyzed all available official GRE tests to select the words that appear in this book. The vocabulary words in this book are best suited for students at a 9th-grade level or above. The words in this edition are specifically targeted toward the GRE exam, but they are also helpful for students who are preparing for other standardized tests such as the SAT, ACT, ISEE, SSAT, GMAT, LSAT or MCAT, or anyone at any age who simply wants to improve his/her knowledge of English vocabulary. Disclaimer: a few of our mnemonics might not be appropriate for kids – some contain adult language or situations. Over 950 of the words in this book appear in our other mnemonics book,SAT Vocab Capacity. So if you're easily offended, the SAT version might be a better choice. Why This Book Is Different If you're studying for the GRE, SAT, or for any other standardized test that measures your vocabulary, you may be feeling a little bit anxious – especially if you've taken a practice test and encountered words you didn't know (or maybe never even saw before)! Whether you have seven days or seven months to prepare for the test, you're going to want to boost your vocabulary. But it's not that simple – you've got to remember the words you learn. And on many GRE text completion and sentence equivalence questions, getting the right answer comes down to knowing the precise definition of the words. You could make vocabulary flashcards. You could look up words you don't know. You could read a book with lots of big words. But unless you give your brain a way to hold on to the words you learn, it will probably have a harder time remembering them when they appear on the test. That's the problem with most vocabulary books: the definitions and sentences in the books aren't especially memorable. That's where this book is different. We've not only clearly defined the words but we've also created sentences designed to help you remember the words through a variety of associations - using mnemonics. Mnemonic Examples A mnemonic is just a memory device. It works by creating a link in your brain to something else, so that recall of one thing helps recall of the other. This can be done in many ways – but the strongest links are through senses, emotions, rhymes, and patterns. Consider this example: Quash (verb): to completely stop from happening. Think: squash. The best way to quash an invasion of ants in your kitchen is simple: squash them. Now your brain has a link from the word quash (which it may not have known) to the word squash (which it probably knows). Both words sound and look the same, so it's easy to create a visual and aural link. If you picture someone squashing ants (and maybe get grossed out), you also have another visual link and an emotional link. Here's another example: Eschew (verb): to avoid. Think: ah-choo! Eschew people who say "ah-choo!" unless you want to catch their colds. The word eschew sounds similar to a sneeze (ah-choo!), so your brain will now link the two sounds. If you picture yourself avoiding someone who is about to sneeze in your face, even better! Again, the more connections you make in your brain to the new word, th

Learning Spanish Words Through Etymology and Mnemonics by Yong Huang Pdf

Learning Spanish Words through Etymology and Mnemonics makes use of etymology to help you remember Spanish words and, failing that, suggests a mnemonic. Combination of these two approaches in one book separates it from other books on the market. The amount and depth of etymology is carefully chosen to be practical and not overwhelm an average reader. The suggested mnemonics aim to help an educated English-speaking person. An adult or young adult who likes learning vocabulary with some word analysis instead of rote memory will find this book to be helpful and a joy to read. With about 3000 words selected from 15000 in the Real Academia Espaola corpus sorted in frequency order, this booklet can be used either as a dictionary or for leisure reading. The hint provided for each word is particularly helpful for short-term memory needed in taking an exam, while the etymological and cultural information will serve you for years to come. Roberts, Professor Emeritus of Central Michigan University, author of A Comprehensive Etymological Dictionary of the Spanish Language "(Yong Huang's book) filled a niche on my language-learning bookshelf I hadn't even thought of before... the system works as an efficient road map to boosting vocabulary by steering readers directly to the most effective words for building understanding and fluency fast, while pointing out shortcuts and possible pitfalls along the way.
