Echoes of Life and Death by William Ernest Henley Pdf

This early work by William Ernest Henley was originally published in 1908 and we are now republishing it with a brand new introductory biography. 'Echoes of Life and Death' is a collection of 47 poems by this highly under-read and under-rated English poet. William Ernest Henley was born on 23rd August 1849, in Gloucester, England. In 1867, Henley passed the Oxford Local Schools Examination and set off to London to establish himself as a journalist. Unfortunately, his career was frequently interrupted by long stays in hospital due to a diseased right foot which he refused to have amputated. During a three year stay at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, Henley wrote and published his collection of poetry 'In Hospital' (1875). This publication is noteworthy in particular for being some of the earliest examples of free verse written in England. Henley's best-remembered work is his poem "Invictus", written in 1888. It is a passionate and defiant poem, reportedly written as a demonstration of resilience following the amputation of his leg.

Echoes of a Life by Robin Byron Pdf

Haunted by a mysterious and half remembered event from her early childhood, Marianne’s life evolves from her upbringing in Vermont, to her literary studies in England and Russia. She is uninhibited in her zest for life, but when certain choices - including an entanglement with an American diplomat (or spy?) – lead to disastrous consequences, the familiar feelings of guilt return. Pursuing a successful life back in England, Marianne is unprepared when further tragedy strikes. As she and her husband try to come to terms with their new situation their marriage begins to crumble and is dealt a further blow when events from her time in Russia are resurrected. Visiting her sick father in Vermont she finally learns the explanation for the dream which has always haunted her and by the time she reaches old age, she is consumed by the need to atone for her mistakes and to make amends to those she loves most. Partly set some years into the future, Britain has legalised assisted dying, and for Marianne this is perhaps the route she must take to provide the redemption she requires. Disclosing her plans to family and friends, Marianne observes their varied reactions, as those who seem half-hearted in their objections are challenged by the passion of two young women who lead the final charge to save Marianne from herself.

Echoes of the Soul by Echo Bodine Pdf

One Palm Sunday, Echo Bodine prayed to be granted a better understanding of worlds beyond this one, and three days later she found herself on an amazing voyage. Leaving her body behind, she traveled through life, death, and then beyond in a breath-taking vision of what awaits us all after this life. Echoes of the Soul is heartwarming and enlightening. In simple prose, Echo Bodine gently leads readers through realms of existence we all have yet to experience. Her inspiring images leave us with a hopeful vision of life after death — or, as Echo calls it, graduation, when we go to our real home. This inspiring and positive vision of the afterlife leaves the reader filled with hope, and even awe.

This work is a story about organic molecules that can elucidate the long, interlinked history of the Earth and life, namely fossil molecules, found in rocks and petroleum. Echoes of a Boy by Richard Godfray-Hoare Pdf

My past ambition to be an author was revisited during the COVID pandemic lockdown and I created this concept piece which takes an original crime fiction novella, written in my late teens, and wraps around it the biography of my life to date. A murder-mystery set in the grounds of a boys boarding school, and an insight into the mind of the author, the events that shaped the fiction, and the subsequent years filled with echoes from the past. A whodunit, by whodidit, and why...

Echoes of Mind by David A. Levy,James E. Parco Pdf

Examining one's life is arguably the central distinguishing characteristic of being human, and this wise and wonderful book is the perfect answer to Socrates's warning that the unexamined life is not worth living. Readers who merely read through the book's fascinating anecdotes will be entertained, but they will be seriously shortchanging themselves, for it is the guiding questions that provoke and inspire serious self-examination. As the calendar-like format of the book implies, these questions should be savored and pondered no faster than one page of questions per day. Levy and Parco continue to challenge our thinking as they did in their previous two Thinking Deeply About books. Echoes of Mind presents common topics in an uncommon way that encourages both reflection and introspection. Spending time with this book will be reassuring and yet challenging, even at times uncomfortable-but in all cases, rewarding. Daryl J. Bem, Ph.D. Professor Emeritus of Psychology Cornell University

Echoes from Dharamsala by Keila Diehl Pdf

"Echoes of Dharamsala takes us deep into exile as a performance space, a refugee home on the diasporic range. The metaphor of reverberation comes very much to life as Keila Diehl bears witness to the emergent politics and poetics of Tibetan rock and roll. Compassionate and modest, yet incisive and unromantic, her writing brings us close to amazingly complicated musical lives being forged in a distinct global conjuncture of modernity, desire, and longing."—Steven Feld, Prof. of Music and Anthropology, Columbia University "Echoes from Dharamsala is a charmingly written, ethnographically rich, theoretically ambitious book about a Tibetan community in exile. Keila Diehl joined a Tibetan rock band as its keyboard player, and from that perspective gives us a fresh and honest look at the Tibetan refugee experience through its soundscapes. She has presented us with a model of ethnography, which while not shying away from representing the conflicts and contradictions of the community she studied, nevertheless displays a deep political solidarity with the Tibetan cause."—Akhil Gupta, author of Postcolonial Developments: Agriculture in the Making of Modern India "Giving new meaning to "participant-observation," Keila Diehl explores the politics and poetics of Tibetan cultural production in exile, in a study that is at once engaging and insightful."—Donald S. Lopez, author of Prisoners of Shangri-La: Tibetan Buddhism and the West

Sarah Gailey's The Echo Wife is “a trippy domestic thriller which takes the extramarital affair trope in some intriguingly weird new directions.”--Entertainment Weekly I’m embarrassed, still, by how long it took me to notice. Echoes of Earth by Sean Williams,Shane Dix Pdf

In this “dazzling adventure” from the New York Times–bestselling author, a man adrift in space finds himself facing the edge of madness (Jack McDevitt). The Frank Tipler is just one of a thousand survey vessels sent out into the bubble of space surrounding Earth, seeking habitable worlds and signs of advanced life. Its crew has stumbled across artifacts left behind by a benevolent trader species, but the decision to study them is fraught with danger and uncertainty. The Tipler's crew consists of forty flawed electronic copies of human beings, some of them profoundly damaged—and Earth stopped responding to signals over a century ago. Caught between madness and political machinations, Alander stands on the brink of what might be the greatest discovery humanity has ever made—and a gift that humanity can’t afford to accept. “ECHOES OF EARTH is a dazzling adventure, sweeping the reader along from marvel to wonder, and it includes one of the most heart-stopping moments I've encountered in a novel in years.” —Jack McDevitt “[The] book can't be discussed or even described without spoiling some of the surprises, which are mutually reinforcing as well as juicy in themselves. I will, however, give in to the temptation to drop a few more of the names that came to mind as I was reading: the Three Gregs (Bear, Benford, Egan), Linda Nagata, and Frederik Pohl…. As the first of a series... ECHOES promises to rev its Ideas right past the red-line and drive them hard.” —Locus “The science in Dix and Williams’s work shines, entrancing with its glitter and innovation… and you won’t find any of their novels without fully-fleshed out characters, complex plots, vivid settings and thoughtful exploration of issues.” —SF Site “The authors have already made a name for themselves as writers of intelligent space opera, and ECHOES OF EARTH is sure to further bolster that reputation. The book is chock full of marvelous events, cosmic significance, mysterious alien motivations, and the wonder of outer space.” —Science Fiction Chronicle Winner of the Ditmar Award.

Echoes and Empires by Morgan Rhodes Pdf

In an empire built on lies, truth may be the greatest weapon. Now in paperback, the first book of a new fantasy duology filled with forbidden magic, plenty of snark, and even more action, from Morgan Rhodes, the New York Times bestselling author of the Falling Kingdom series. Josslyn Drake knows only three things about magic: it’s rare, illegal, and always deadly. So when she’s caught up in a robbery gone wrong at the Queen’s Gala and infected by a dangerous piece of magic—one that allows her to step into the memories of an infamously evil warlock—she finds herself living her worst nightmare. Joss needs the magic removed before it corrupts her soul and kills her. But in Ironport, the cost of doing magic is death, and seeking help might mean scheduling her own execution. There’s nobody she can trust. Nobody, that is, except wanted criminal Jericho Nox, who offers her a deal: his help extracting the magic in exchange for the magic itself. And though she’s not thrilled to be working with a thief, especially one as infuriating (and infuriatingly handsome) as Jericho, Joss is desperate enough to accept. But Jericho is nothing like Joss expects. The closer she grows to Jericho and the more she sees of the world outside her pampered life in the city, the more Joss begins to question the beliefs she’s always taken for granted—beliefs about right and wrong, about power and magic, and even about herself.
