Education System in Saudi Arabia by Md. Muddassir Quamar Pdf

This book is a comprehensive study on the education system of Saudi Arabia, placing the reforms and changes it has undergone in the past two decades within the context of the historical evolution of the education system. An education system cannot be seen in isolation of the society; it plays a significant role in shaping the individual, state and the society, that in turn, have a bearing on the education system and its evolution. Therefore, this book locates Saudi education in the backdrop of the changes in the society, how they have facilitated or hindered the education reforms and how the education reforms have impacted the society. The book does not ignore the immediate trigger for the beginning of a comprehensive reforms process but goes beyond it to find much deeper socio-political and economic rationales that paved the way for the reforms. It provides a nuanced understanding of the interplays of various socioeconomic as well as political factors that have shaped the education system in Saudi Arabia.

Higher Education in Saudi Arabia by Larry Smith,Abdulrahman Abouammoh Pdf

This book provides the first academically rigorous description and critical analysis of the Higher Education system in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and of the vision, strategies and policy imperatives for the future development of Saudi universities. The government of Saudi Arabia has recognized in both policy and practice the necessity of developing its university system to world-class standard. Significantly increasing access and participation in Higher Education across a range of traditional and non-traditional disciplines is directly relevant to the future social and economic growth of the country. This book addresses the way in which Saudi Arabia is moving to develop a quality university system that balances the need for students to gain the knowledge, skills and ‘ways of doing’ necessary to operate effectively on the world stage while simultaneously maintaining and demonstrating the fundamental values of the Islamic religion and culture. The book provides a description and critical analysis of the key components of the Saudi Higher Education system, and of system-level responses to the challenges and opportunities facing Saudi universities. It is written by a team of Saudi academics and authors of international standing from non-Saudi universities so as to provide both internal and external perspectives on all issues and to place information and ideas in the context of the international Higher Education scene.

Reviews of National Policies for Education by Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development Pdf

A team of examiners from the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) reviews Portugal's education system in a three-part report. Part One begins with the consequences of the 1974 revolution, Portugal's economic problems, its impending attachment to the European Economic Community, and rising public expectations about education. It continues with criticism of the Ministry of Education, which is overstaffed and has duplicate functions. The examiners propose reduction of branches and suggest the establishment of a national education advisory council and closer relations with other government agencies. A high priority for the compulsory school-level education (four primary and two preparatory grades) is improvement of standards in rural areas. Accepting the future extension of compulsory schooling from 6 to 9 years, the examiners counsel step-by-step reform of the school structure and curriculum. Education of 16-to-19 year olds is a problematic issue since upper-secondary schools are not providing adequate vocational courses. The examiners feel a solution is for Portugal to adopt a comprehensive education and training policy for that age group implemented jointly by the Ministries of Education and Labor. Part Two of the report includes a record of the review meeting between the OECD examiners and the Minister of Education and his delegates and addresses five areas of concern. The third part is a summary of the Ministry of Education's Backgroud Report of the education system in Portugal. (MD)

The Saudi Arabian Economy by Mohamed A. Ramady Pdf

The Saudi Arabian economy has changed almost beyond recognition since the oil boom days of the 1980s, and the Kingdom itself has changed too economically, socially, and demographically. In the second edition of The Saudi Arabian Economy, Mohamed Ramady uses several overlapping themes to establish and develop a framework for studying the fundamental challenges to the Saudi economy. Particular attention is paid to the benefits of short-term planning and long-term diversification intended to shield the economy from potentially de-stabilizing oil price fluctuations and the pace and diversity of domestic reforms. The author examines the core strengths and evolution of various financial institutions and the Saudi stock market in the face of globalization, before analyzing the private sector in detail. Topics discussed include: • The hydrocarbon and minerals sector, including the emergence of the competitive petrochemical sector • The impact of small and medium sized businesses and the evolving role of “family” businesses • The growing role of women in the Saudi economy • The role of privatization and FDI as engines of change and the position of public-private-partnerships • The establishment of a foundation for a knowledge-based economy Finally, the author offers an analysis of the key challenges facing the Saudi economy, paying particular attention to the potential costs and benefits of globalization, and membership in the WTO. Employment, education, economic and social stability, and Saudi Arabia’s place in the Gulf Cooperation Council, as well as Saudi Arabia’s evolving strategic economic relations with China and other countries are offered as keys to the consensus building needed to ensure the Kingdom’s healthy economic future.

Handbook of Islamic Education by Holger Daun,Reza Arjmand Pdf

This Handbook traces and presents the fundamentals of Islam and their history and background, and provides a global and holistic, yet, detailed picture of Islamic education around the world. It introduces the reader to the roots and foundations of Islamic education; the responses of Islamic educational institutions to different changes from precolonial times, through the colonial era up to the contemporary situation. It discusses interactions between the state, state-run education and Islamic education, and explores the Islamic educational arrangements existing around the world. The book provides in-depth descriptions and analyses, as well as country case studies representing some 25 countries. The work reflects the recent series of changes and events with respect to Islam and Muslims that have occurred during the past decades. The globalization of Islam as a religion and an ideology, the migration of Muslims into new areas of the globe, and the increasing contacts between Muslims and non-Muslims reinforce the need for mutual understanding. By presenting Islamic education around the world in a comprehensive work, this Handbook contributes to a deeper international understanding of its varieties.

The Education Dilemma by J. Simmons Pdf

The Education Dilemma: Policy Issues for Developing Countries in the 1980s focuses on the questions on the adequacy of the Western European and North American model of formal schooling exported to developing countries. The selection first offers information on an overview of the policy issues in the 1980s, future of formal education in developing countries, and factors which promote school achievement in developing countries. Discussions focus on the effect of schooling variables on achievement; comparison of the importance of schooling inputs and home background; educational production function and its limitations; and theories of learning and schooling. The text then examines preschool age investment in human capital, policy implications of instructional technology, and the impact of American educational research on developing countries. The publication takes a look at common assumptions about education and employment, education and employment after independence, and the influence of education on migration and fertility. Topics include education and migration, fertility and education, socializing effects of educational institutions, educational and individual entrepreneurship, and education and access to labor market. The manuscript also surveys education, class conflict, and uneven development and investment in education in developing nations. The selection is a valuable reference for educators and researchers interested in the application of the Western European and North American model of formal schooling to developing countries.

In navigating an era full of changes and challenges, education plays a key role in opening the door to a brighter future. Education not only gives birth to a knowledgeable generation but also builds character and prepares future leaders who are tough and adaptive. Through this book, I invite readers to trace the journey of educational transformation in Saudi Arabia, a country that persistently strives for free and comprehensive education for all levels of society. With a strong passion for advancing education, Saudi Arabia has made significant progress in overhauling its education system. Free education, accompanied by various support programs for students, marks a new era in the country's educational history. This initiative not only shows the government's commitment to improving the quality of life of its citizens but also provides clear evidence of the country's efforts to respond to the global need for inclusive and equitable education.

Teaching and Learning in Saudi Arabia by Amani K Hamdan Pdf

Saudi Arabia is witnessing unprecedented progress in the field of higher education. Even though the country opened its first university in 1957, so far there seems to be little English scholarly writing about Saudi education in general and higher education in particular. The current expansion of Saudi Arabia s higher-education system has put a spotlight on this serious gap in the international literature. This book helps to fill this lacuna through the work of 16 scholars who have contributed to the development of the Saudi education system. In so doing, the book reveals areas where more research is required and thus provides a useful starting point for education scholars. This anthology is unique in that it is the first to offer a comprehensive perspective on the current knowledge base pertaining to Saudi higher education as well as to the ongoing efforts to introduce reforms.
