Electric Power System Planning by Hossein Seifi,Mohammad Sadegh Sepasian Pdf

The present book addresses various power system planning issues for professionals as well as senior level and postgraduate students. Its emphasis is on long-term issues, although much of the ideas may be used for short and mid-term cases, with some modifications. Back-up materials are provided in twelve appendices of the book. The readers can use the numerous examples presented within the chapters and problems at the end of the chapters, to make sure that the materials are adequately followed up. Based on what Matlab provides as a powerful package for students and professional, some of the examples and the problems are solved in using M-files especially developed and attached for this purpose. This adds a unique feature to the book for in-depth understanding of the materials, sometimes, difficult to apprehend mathematically. Chapter 1 provides an introduction to Power System Planning (PSP) issues and basic principles. As most of PSP problems are modeled as optimization problems, optimization techniques are covered in some details in Chapter 2. Moreover, PSP decision makings are based on both technical and economic considerations, so economic principles are briefly reviewed in Chapter 3. As a basic requirement of PSP studies, the load has to be known. Therefore, load forecasting is presented in Chapter 4. Single bus Generation Expansion Planning (GEP) problem is described in Chapter 5. This study is performed using WASP-IV, developed by International Atomic Energy Agency. The study ignores the grid structure. A Multi-bus GEP problem is discussed in Chapter 6 in which the transmission effects are, somehow, accounted for. The results of single bus GEP is used as an input to this problem. SEP problem is fully presented in Chapter 7. Chapter 8 devotes to Network Expansion Planning (NEP) problem, in which the network is planned. The results of NEP, somehow, fixes the network structure. Some practical considerations and improvements such as multi-voltage cases are discussed in Chapter 9. As NEP study is typically based on some simplifying assumptions and Direct Current Load Flow (DCLF) analysis, detailed Reactive Power Planning (RPP) study is finally presented in Chapter 10, to guarantee acceptable ACLF performance during normal as well as contingency conditions. This, somehow, concludes the basic PSP problem. The changing environments due to power system restructuring dictate some uncertainties on PSP issues. It is shown in Chapter 11 that how these uncertainties can be accounted for. Although is intended to be a text book, PSP is a research oriented topic, too. That is why Chapter 12 is devoted to research trends in PSP. The chapters conclude with a comprehensive example in Chapter 13, showing the step-by-step solution of a practical case.

Innovative and Agile Contracting for Digital Transformation and Industry 4.0 by Shalan, Mohammad Ali,Algarni, Mohammed Ayedh Pdf

Digital transformation is reshaping the business arena as new, successful digital business models are increasing agility and presenting better ways to handle business than the traditional alternatives. Industry 4.0 affects everything in our daily lives and is blurring the line between the physical, the biological, and the digital. This created an environment where technology and humans are so closely integrated that it is impacting every activity within the organizations. Specifically, contracting processes and procedures are challenged to align with the new business dynamics as traditional contracts are no longer fitting today's agile and continuously changing environments. Businesses are required to facilitate faster, more secure, soft, and real-time transactions while protecting stakeholders’ rights and obligations. This includes agile contracts which are dynamically handling scope changes, smart contracts that can automate rule-based functions, friction-less contracts that can facilitate different activities, and opportunity contracts that looks toward the future. Innovative and Agile Contracting for Digital Transformation and Industry 4.0 analyzes the consequences, benefits, and possible scenarios of contract transformation under the pressure of new technologies and business dynamics in modern times. The chapters cover the problems, issues, complications, strategies, governance, and risks related to the development and enforcement of digital transformation contracting practices. While highlighting topics in the area of digital transformation and contracting such as artificial intelligence, digital business, emerging technologies, and blockchain, this book is ideally intended for business, engineering, and technology practitioners and policy makers, along with practitioners, stakeholders, researchers, academicians, and students interested in understanding the scope, complexity, and importance of innovative contracts and agile contracting.

Optimization in Planning and Operation of Electric Power Systems by Karl Frauendorfer,Hans Glavitsch,Rainer Bacher Pdf

Permanently increasing requirements in power supply necessitate efficient control of electric power systems. An emerging subject of importance is optimization. Papers on modelling aspects of unit commitment and optimal power flow provide the introduction to power systems control and to its associated problem statement. Due to the nature of the underlying optimization problems recent developments in advanced and well established mathematical programming methodologies are presented, illustrating in which way dynamic, separable, continuous and stochastic features might be exploited. In completing the various methodologies a number of presentations have stated experiences with optimization packages currently used for unit commitment and optimal power flow calculations. This work represents a state-of-the-art of mathematical programming methodologies, unit commitment, optimal power flow and their applications in power system control.

Probabilistic Methods Applied to Electric Power Systems by Samy G. Krishnasamy Pdf

Probabilistic Methods Applied to Electric Power Systems contains the proceedings of the First International Symposium held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on July 11-13, 1986. The papers explore significant technical advances that have been made in the application of probability methods to the design of electric power systems. This volume is comprised of 65 chapters divided into 10 sections and begins by discussing the probabilistic methodologies used in the assessment of power system reliability and structural design. The following chapters focus on the applications of probabilistic techniques to the analysis and design of transmission systems and structures; evaluation of design and reliability of distribution systems; system planning; and assessment of performance of transmission system components such as insulators, tower joints, and foundations. The probability-based procedures for dealing with data bases such as wind load and ice load are also considered, along with the effects of weather-induced loads on overhead power lines and the use of probability methods in upgrading existing power lines and components. The final section deals with applications of probability methods to power system problems not covered in other chapters. This book will be of value to engineers involved in uprating, designing, analyzing, and assessing reliability of transmission and distribution systems.

The author explains how the probability theory plays an important role in reliability applications and discusses the probability applications in electric power systems that led to the development of the mathematical models that are illustrated in the book. The algorithms that are presented throughout the chapters will help researchers and engineers to implement their own suitable programs where needed and will also be valuable for students. The Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) and Fuzzy Logic (FL) systems are discussed and a number of load estimation models are built for some cases, where their formulas are developed. A number of developed models are presented, including the Kronecker techniques, Fourth-Order Runge-Kutta, System Multiplication Method, or Adams Method; and components with different connections and different distributions are presented. A number of examples are explained showing how to build and evaluate power plants.

Optimal Long-Term Operation of Electric Power Systems by G.S. Christensen,S.A. Soliman Pdf

This book deals with a very important problem in power system planning for countries in which hydrogeneration accounts for the greatest part of the system power production. During the past thirty years many techniques have been developed to cope with the long-term operation of hydro reser voirs. These techniques have been discussed in a number of publications, but they have not until now been documented in book form. This book is intended as the foundation for a special graduate course dealing with aspects of electrical engineering, operational research, water resource research, and applied mathematics. It may also be used for self study by practicing personnel involved in the planning and operation of hydroelectric power systems for utilities, consulting groups, and government regulatory agencies. The book consists of eight chapters. Chapter 1 reviews the historical developments in the field, discusses briefly all techniques used to solve the problem, and summarizes the modeling of hydroplants for long-term operation studies. At the end of the chapter we present in detail an outline of the book.
