Higher Algebra by H. S. Hall Pdf

Excerpt from Higher Algebra: A Sequel to Elementary Algebra for Schools The present work is intended as a sequel to our Elementary Algebra for Schools. The first few chapters are devoted to a fuller discussion of Ratio, Proportion, Variation, and the Progressions, which in the former work were treated in an elementary manner; and we have here introduced theorems and examples which are unsuitable for a first course of reading. From this point the work covers ground for the most part new to the student, and enters upon subjects of special importance: these we have endeavoured to treat minutely and thoroughly, discussing both bookwork and examples with that fulness which we have always found necessary in our experience as teachers. It has been our aim to discuss all the essential parts as completely as possible within the limits of a single volume, but in a few Of the later chapters it has been im possible to find room for more than an introductory sketch in all such cases our Object has been to map out a suitable first course of reading, referring the student to special treatises for fuller information. Elementary Algebra (Classic Reprint) by George W. Myers Pdf

Excerpt from Elementary Algebra The authors make no apology for offering another algebra to the school public. In influential places algebra has been challenged as a suitable subject for high school pupils. Is it not the part of wisdom, before eliminating a subject of so long and undisputed standing as algebra, to try reconstruct ing and improving its form and even some of its substance? The authors believe that this text has accomplished much in both of these particulars. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from Elementary Algebra for the Use of Schools and Colleges As thus reconstructed, the book constitutes a rounded course in what may be called the newer elementary alge bra, and includes all the subjects prescribed for admission to American Colleges and Schools of Technology. It will prove especially helpful to students preparing for such colleges as are using Mr. Smith's Treatise on Algebra for advanced work. The most important sources that have been drawn upon in the preparation of the new chapters are Professor Chrystal's text-boole of Algebra and Mr. Smith's own larger book, the Treatise. Elements of Algebra by Henry Sinclair Hall Pdf

Excerpt from Elements of Algebra: Being the First Thirty-Eight Chapters of Hall and Knight's Algebra for Colleges and Schools Within a comparatively short time, the algebra require ment for admission to many of our Colleges and Schools of Science has been much increased in both thoroughness of preparation and amount of subj ect-matter. This increase has made necessary the rearrangement and extension of elementary algebra, and it is for this reason that the present revision of Hall and Knight's Elementary Algebra has been undertaken. The marked success of the work, and the hearty endorse ment by. Many of our ablest educators of the treatment of the subject as therein presented, warrant the belief that the present edition, with its additional subject-matter, will be found a desirable arrangement and satisfactory treatment of every part of the subject required for admission to most of our American Colleges. Elementary Algebra by John C. Stone Pdf

Excerpt from Elementary Algebra: Second Course Tms volume has been prepared as a companion to the first course in elementary algebra, written by the same authors. As its title suggests, the second course is designed for students who have had the equivalent of the work given in the first course. The first course gives one year's work, including the topics now generally taught in the first year of the average high school. The second course reviews the topics treated in the first course, amplifies the treatment in the latter by the addition of new matter where necessary, and extends the course to include all topics required for admission to college. A Review of Algebra (Classic Reprint) by Romeyn Henry Rivenburg Pdf

Excerpt from A Review of Algebra IN most high schools the course in Elementary Algebra is finished by the end of the second year. By the senior year, most students have forgotten many of the principles, and a thorough review is necessary in order to prepare college candi dates for the entrance examinations and for effective work in the freshman year in college. Recognizing this need, many schools are devoting at least two periods a week for part of the senior year to a review of algebra. For such a review the regular textbook is inadequate. From an embarrassment of riches the teacher finds it laborious to select the proper examples, while the student wastes time in searching for scattered assignments. The object of this book is to conserve the time and effort of both teacher and student, by providing a thorough and effective review that can readily be completed, if need be, in two periods a week for a half year. Each student is expected to use his regular textbook in algebra for reference, as he would use a dictionary, to recall a definition, a rule, or a process that he has forgotten. He should be encouraged to think his way out wherever possible, however, and to refer to the textbook only when forced to do so as a last resort. The definitions given in the General Outline should be reviewed as occasion arises for their use. The whole Outline can be profitably employed for rapid class reviews, by covering the part of the Outline that indicates the answer, the method, the example, or the formula, as the case may be. The whole scheme of the book is ordinarily to have a page of problems represent a day's work. This, of course, does not apply to the Outlines or the few pages of theory, which can be covered more rapidly. By this plan, making only a part of the omissions indicated in the next paragraph, the essentials of the algebra can be readily covered, if need be, in from thirty to thirty-two lessons, thus leaving time for tests, even if only eighteen weeks, of two periods each, are allotted to the course.
