Physical Metallurgy by Gregory N. Haidemenopoulos Pdf

Physical metallurgy is one of the main fields of metallurgical science dealing with the development of the microstructure of metals in order to achieve desirable properties required in technological applications. Physical Metallurgy: Principles and Design focuses on the processing–structure–properties triangle as it applies to metals and alloys. It introduces the fundamental principles of physical metallurgy and the design methodologies for alloys and processing. The first part of the book discusses the structure and change of structure through phase transformations. The latter part of the books deals with plastic deformation, strengthening mechanisms, and mechanical properties as they relate to structure. The book also includes a chapter on physical metallurgy of steels and concludes by discussing the computational tools, involving computational thermodynamics and kinetics, to perform alloy and process design.

Finite Element Analysis and Design of Metal Structures by Ehab Ellobody,Ran Feng,Ben Young Pdf

Traditionally, engineers have used laboratory testing to investigate the behavior of metal structures and systems. These numerical models must be carefully developed, calibrated and validated against the available physical test results. They are commonly complex and very expensive. From concept to assembly, Finite Element Analysis and Design of Metal Structures provides civil and structural engineers with the concepts and procedures needed to build accurate numerical models without using expensive laboratory testing methods. Professionals and researchers will find Finite Element Analysis and Design of Metal Structures a valuable guide to finite elements in terms of its applications. Presents design examples for metal tubular connections Simplified review for general steps of finite element analysis Commonly used linear and nonlinear analyses in finite element modeling Realistic examples of concepts and procedures for Finite Element Analysis and Design

Structure-Property Relations in Nonferrous Metals by Alan Russell,Kok Loong Lee Pdf

This junior/senior textbook presents fundamental concepts ofstructure property relations and a description of how theseconcpets apply to every metallic element except iron. Part One of the book describes general concepts of crystalstructure, microstructure and related factors on the mechanical, thermal, magnetic and electronic properties of nonferrous metals, intermetallic compounds and metal matrix composites. Part Two discusses all the nonferrous metallic elements from twoperspectives: First it explains how the concepts presented in PartOne define the properties of a particular metallic element and itsalloys. Second is a description of the major engineering uses ofeach metal. This section features sidebar pieces describingparticular physical property oddities, engineering applications andcase studies. An Instructor's Manual presenting detailed solutionsto all the problems in the book is available from the Wileyeditorial department. Structural Steel Selection Considerations by Reidar Bjorhovde,Michael F. Engestrom,Larry G. Griffis,Larry A. Kloiber,James O. Malley Pdf

Sponsored by the Structural Engineering Institute of ASCE; American Institute of Steel Construction, Inc. This report describes the properties of steel and the criteria used to select appropriate steels to serve the intended needs. It presents a detailed evaluation of issues related to steel production, steel materials, design considerations, fabrication considerations, and service issues for structures whose major components are made from structural steel. Specific recommendations are made for how to deal with the large number of important factors that will affect the eventual performance of the completed structure.

Physical Metallurgy by R.W. Cahn,P. Haasen Pdf

This is the fourth edition of a work which first appeared in 1965. The first edition had approximately one thousand pages in a single volume. This latest volume has almost three thousand pages in 3 volumes which is a fair measure of the pace at which the discipline of physical metallurgy has grown in the intervening 30 years. Almost all the topics previously treated are still in evidence in this version which is approximately 50% bigger than the previous edition. All the chapters have been either totally rewritten by new authors or thoroughly revised and expanded, either by the third-edition authors alone or jointly with new co-authors. Three chapters on new topics have been added, dealing with dry corrosion, oxidation and protection of metal surfaces; the dislocation theory of the mechanical behavior of intermetallic compounds; and (most novel) a chapter on polymer science for metallurgists, which analyses the conceptual mismatch between metallurgists' and polymer scientists' way of looking at materials. Special care has been taken throughout all chapters to incorporate the latest experimental research results and theoretical insights. Several thousand citations to the research and review literature are included in this edition. There is a very detailed subject index, as well as a comprehensive author index. The original version of this book has long been regarded as the standard text in physical metallurgy and this thoroughly rewritten and updated version will retain this status.
