Endoscopic Surgery of the Orbit by Benjamin S. Bleier,Suzanne K. Freitag,Raymond Sacks Pdf

The benchmark reference on endoscopic surgery of the orbit from international experts! The use of endoscopic orbital surgery is rapidly expanding in modern day rhinology and oculoplastic practice. In the past two decades, endoscopic techniques have been adapted for lacrimal and orbital surgery. Significant advances have been made in endoscopic endonasal and periocular approaches to the orbital apex and skull base, especially in the last 3 years. There has been no book dedicated to these recent surgical innovations until Endoscopic Surgery of the Orbit: Anatomy, Pathology, and Management by Benjamin Bleier, Suzanne Freitag, and Raymond Sacks filled this void. This landmark text and its accompanying videos bring together the global experience of thought leaders and pioneers with multidisciplinary backgrounds. The collective expertise shared throughout 20 chapters codifies the current state of endoscopic orbital surgery and sets the stage for future developments. The opening chapters cover anatomy, physiology, and radiologic aspects pertaining to the orbit, paranasal sinuses, and surrounding structures. Subsequent chapters detail evaluation and endoscopic management of a full spectrum of pathologies utilizing orbital and optic nerve decompression, reconstruction, transorbital approaches, and anesthetic techniques. Key Features State-of-the-art evidence-based medicine including the pros and cons of different treatment approaches Management of operative complications such as sinusitis and iatrogenic intraorbital injury, and postoperative challenges Pathology-specific topics including congenital and acquired lacrimal obstruction, thyroid-related eye disease, trauma, orbital neoplasms, and skull-base neoplasms with orbital involvement 138 original illustrations help elucidate complex anatomy High definition, narrated surgical videos delineate specific surgical techniques This is a must-have resource for otolaryngologists in rhinologic and general practice and ophthalmologists in general and oculoplastic practice. It will also benefit neurosurgeons and plastic & reconstructive surgeons. The comprehensive text, clinical pearls, and accompanying videos facilitate incorporating these techniques into practice, whether one is a surgical trainee or veteran practitioner.

Endoscopic Transorbital Surgery of the Orbit, Skull Base and Brain by Theodore H. Schwartz,Doo-Sik Kong,Kris S. Moe Pdf

Endoscopic transorbital surgery of the orbit, skull base and brain is a new surgical discipline that has developed over the last decade out of a collaboration between otolaryngologists, neurosurgeons and oculoplastic surgeons. Tumors and other pathology of the skull base are some of the most difficult to approach and treat for surgeons since they lie at the interface of several traditional specialties, namely the eye, the paranasal sinuses and the brain. For this reason, no single surgical specialty is fully trained to independently reach this region, which requires collaborative approaches that are technically demanding and often long and arduous procedures. In the last decade, using the endoscopic techniques and instrumentation, otolaryngologists, oculoplastic surgeons and neurosurgeons, have together shown that the orbit can be used as a minimally disruptive corridor to reach the skull base lateral to the carotid artery as well as other areas that are difficult to access through transcranial or endonasal approaches. These approaches are now even being used to remove brain tumors involving the frontal and temporal lobes, including those that extend through the middle cranial fossa and into the posterior fossa, without visible external scars or the need for a traditional craniotomy. In addition, they have been used to clip aneurysms, treat seizure disorders, drain abscesses, repair CSF (brain fluid) leaks, and restore skull fractures – all without the additional risks, trauma and prolonged recovery of previous open surgical techniques. The literature is now demonstrating that these endoscopic procedures have comparable or improved safety compared to open surgery, while creating less collateral damage, and result in reduced patient stays. Due to their novelty, few surgeons have acquired the necessary experience, knowledge and expertise to introduce these approaches into their practice, yet due to their safety and efficacy they are rapidly becoming a critical skill set. This is the first text of its kind to codify and proliferate these new approaches more rapidly through the country and world, appealing to otolaryngologists, oculoplastic surgeons and neurosurgeons who deal with pathology involving the skull base.

Surgical Anatomy Around the Orbit by Barry M. Zide Pdf

This full-color surgical atlas provides a detailed, true-to-life view of periorbital anatomy as seen during an operative procedure. More than 130 photographs of fresh cadaver dissections and more than 100 vivid drawings by an award-winning ophthalmic artist enable surgeons to thoroughly preview this complex anatomy prior to surgery. Using his popular concept of facial zones, Dr. Zide depicts the fine anatomic details necessary for today's advanced cosmetic and reconstructive procedures. A chapter on the seventh cranial nerve shows what tissue is innervated and delineates the exact zone of safety. A chapter on anatomy for facial nerve blocks is included. A bound-in CD-ROM contains the book's 238 illustrations and extensive anatomic dissections.
