Contracts for Construction and Engineering Projects by Donald Charrett Pdf

Contracts for Construction and Engineering Projects provides unique and invaluable guidance on the role of contracts in construction and engineering projects. The work explores various aspects of the intersection of contracts and construction projects involving the work of engineers and other professionals engaged in construction, whether as project managers, designers, constructors, contract administrators, schedulers, claims consultants, forensic engineers or expert witnesses. Compiling papers written and edited by the author, refined and expanded with additional chapters in this new edition, this book draws together a lifetime of lessons learned in these fields and covers the topics a practising professional might encounter in construction and engineering projects, developed in bite-sized chunks. The chapters are divided into five key parts: 1. The engineer and the contract 2. The project and the contract 3. Avoidance and resolution of disputes 4. Forensic engineers and expert witnesses, and 5. International construction contracts. The inclusion of numerous case studies to illustrate the importance of getting the contract right before it is entered into – and the consequences that may ensue if this is not done – makes this book essential reading for professionals practising in any area of design, construction, contract administration, preparation of claims or expert evidence, as well as construction lawyers who interact with construction professionals.

Engineering Contracts by ROBERT RIBEIRO Pdf

Engineering Contracts is intended for those who wish to acquire skills in drafting, negotiating and working with commercial and engineering contracts. It aims to bring a different approach to the subject; combining the traditional legal perspective of the law of contract with the needs of the commercial manager or engineer who is seeking solutions to technical and commercial problems. The context within which these matters are examined is as wide as possible; for the purposes of illustration cases are drawn from the fields of mechanical, electrical, chemical, electronic and civil engineering, as well as from construction and building contracts. In many cases the important points are common to all disciplines, for instance the importance of ensuring that what has been specified is what is delivered by a supplier, and that any such delivery or indeed any event critical to the timely conclusion of a project takes place when arranged. There is advice on how to the concepts broached relate to real-life requirements and the reader will benefit from the helpful 'Legal Questions Answered' section that is included in most chapters. In addition there is a summary guide to drafting an engineering contract, a section on the relevant statutes and other legislation in force, and a list of the engineering institutions and their standard forms of contract. Case-studies of genuine and practical origin from the author's wide-ranging experience in industrial practice complete this comprehensive treatment of the subject matter.

Handbook of Cost Data for Contractors and Engineers by Halbert P. Gillette Pdf

Excerpt from Handbook of Cost Data for Contractors and Engineers: A Reference Book Giving Methods of Construction and Actual Costs of Materials and Labor on Numerous Engineering Works Four years ago I announced in my little book, "Economics of Road Construction," that I had in preparation a handbook of cost data for engineers and contractors. At that time this handbook had been under way for eight years, and it seemed nearly ready for publication; but other duties prevented a speedy finishing of the task. The delay, however, has been fortunate in that I have added very much to my knowledge of the general subject. In the meantime, two books have grown out of the original manuscript, namely, my books on earthwork and on rock excavation. The writing of these two books has better fitted me for the writing of this book, and has put me in touch with many engineers and contractors who have generously furnished additional cost data. So far as I know, this is the first book on engineering cost data ever published. There are "price books" written for house builders, but they are essentially what their name implies - books on prices of materials and contract prices. This book differs from all such works, aside from the fact that it covers the whole field of civil engineering, in that it is a book in which costs are analyzed and discussed. A contract price is one thing, a contract cost is an entirely different thing, in spite of the common confusion of these terms. In order fully to understand any analysis of unit costs it is necessary to have a detailed description of the methods used in construction and operation. Hence, although itemized cost data occupy many scores of pages in this book, there are many more scores of pages devoted to descriptions of how the work was done, the organization of the forces, and the machines used. The records, in all cases, are actual records taken from every available source of published information, from personal letters sent by engineers and contractors and from my own records. It is often said that cost data are of no value to an inexperienced man. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
