Engineering Computation of Structures: The Finite Element Method by Maria Augusta Neto,Ana Amaro,Luis Roseiro,José Cirne,Rogério Leal Pdf

This book presents theories and the main useful techniques of the Finite Element Method (FEM), with an introduction to FEM and many case studies of its use in engineering practice. It supports engineers and students to solve primarily linear problems in mechanical engineering, with a main focus on static and dynamic structural problems. Readers of this text are encouraged to discover the proper relationship between theory and practice, within the finite element method: Practice without theory is blind, but theory without practice is sterile. Beginning with elasticity basic concepts and the classical theories of stressed materials, the work goes on to apply the relationship between forces, displacements, stresses and strains on the process of modeling, simulating and designing engineered technical systems. Chapters discuss the finite element equations for static, eigenvalue analysis, as well as transient analyses. Students and practitioners using commercial FEM software will find this book very helpful. It uses straightforward examples to demonstrate a complete and detailed finite element procedure, emphasizing the differences between exact and numerical procedures.

Finite Element Methods-(For Structural Engineers) by Wail N. Al-Rifaie,Ashok K. Govil Pdf

About the Book: The book presents the basic ideas of the finite element method so that it can be used as a textbook in the curriculum for undergraduate and graduate engineering courses. In the presentation of fundamentals and derivations care had been taken not to use an advanced mathematical approach, rather the use of matrix algebra and calculus is made. Further no effort is being made to include the intricacies of the computer programming aspect, rather the material is presented in a manner so that the readers can understand the basic principles using hand calculations. However, a list of computer codes is given. Several illustrative examples are presented in a detailed stepwise manner to explain the various steps in the application of the method. A fairly comprehensive references list at the end of each chapter is given for additional information and further study. About the Author: Wail N. Al-Rifaie is Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Technology, Baghdad, Iraq. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University College, Cardiff, U.K. in 1975. Dr. Wail established the Civil Engineering Department at the Engineering College in Baghdad and was the Head for nearly seven years. Finite Element Analysis for Engineering Design by Junuthula N. Reddy,C.S. Krishnamoorthy,K.N. Seetharamu Pdf

From the preface: "The advent of computers has opened new horizons in the field of engineering design. In the realm of analysis for engineering design the finite element method has emerged as a powerful tool for modeling and analysis of solids and structures of complex geometries and variable material properties in many areas of engineering design such as machine components, pressure vessels, nuclear reactors, off-shore structures, steel and concrete buildings, bridges, towers, automobile components, turbine parts, power plant structures, etc. The text-book literature on the finite element method exists at an introductory level through the new and more advanced level of simple applications. Modeling and analysis of practical problems continue to be developed and published in technical journals. Developments are also taking place in the use of artificial intelligence techniques in expert systems to advise the analysts on the choice of the elements, type of analysis, discretization, etc. for solving complicated problems. It is essential to periodically synthesize all the developments on the finite element method and its applications to practical problems of engineering design and also to identify the future areas of research both in the domains of academic research and industrial applications. Keeping this in mind an advanced study institute was organized at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, India during Aug. 1-10, 1988. This volume contains lecture notes prepared by the invited lecturers attending the Advanced Study Institute. It should serve as a ready reference to researchers and practitioners engaged in the finite-element analysis related to engineering design in several disciplines."

Computational Structural Analysis and Finite Element Methods by A. Kaveh Pdf

Graph theory gained initial prominence in science and engineering through its strong links with matrix algebra and computer science. Moreover, the structure of the mathematics is well suited to that of engineering problems in analysis and design. The methods of analysis in this book employ matrix algebra, graph theory and meta-heuristic algorithms, which are ideally suited for modern computational mechanics. Efficient methods are presented that lead to highly sparse and banded structural matrices. The main features of the book include: application of graph theory for efficient analysis; extension of the force method to finite element analysis; application of meta-heuristic algorithms to ordering and decomposition (sparse matrix technology); efficient use of symmetry and regularity in the force method; and simultaneous analysis and design of structures.

This book is written by an engineer for engineering students (and practising engineers). While the presentation of the core material is fairly traditional, an attempt has been made to emphasize the impact of the formidable computational capability now available to all engineers. The author tends to favour simplicity and "abundance"; that is, many simple elements. Some mathematics is necessary for understanding the finite element method, but hopefully the approach and terminology of this book is familiar to the "engineering" way of thinking, and for the most part derivations are based on the principle of virtual displacements. As the owner of this book you are entitled to download two simple, but useful and easy-to-use FEM programs (for Windows) to your own PC from http://www.fagbokforlaget.no/fem Both programs (FEMplate and CrossX) are used in connection with several examples in the book.

Advanced Finite Element Method in Structural Engineering by Yu-Qiu Long,Song Cen,Zhi-Fei Long Pdf

Advanced Finite Element Method in Structural Engineering systematically introduces the research work on the Finite Element Method (FEM), which was completed by Prof. Yu-qiu Long and his research group in the past 25 years. Seven original theoretical achievements - for instance, the Generalized Conforming Element method, to name one - and their applications in the fields of structural engineering and computational mechanics are discussed in detail. The book also shows the new strategies for avoiding five difficulties that exist in traditional FEM (shear-locking problem of thick plate elements; sensitivity problem to mesh distortion; non-convergence problem of non-conforming elements; accuracy loss problem of stress solutions by displacement-based elements; stress singular point problem) by utilizing foregoing achievements.

The Finite Element Method in Engineering by S. S. Rao Pdf

The Finite Element Method in Engineering introduces the various aspects of finite element method as applied to engineering problems in a systematic manner. It details the development of each of the techniques and ideas from basic principles. New concepts are illustrated with simple examples wherever possible. Several Fortran computer programs are given with example applications to serve the following purposes: to enable the reader to understand the computer implementation of the theory developed; to solve specific problems; and to indicate procedure for the development of computer programs for solving any other problem in the same area. The book begins with an overview of the finite element method. This is followed by separate chapters on numerical solution of various types of finite element equations; the general procedure of finite element analysis; the development higher order and isoparametric elements; and the application of finite element method for static and dynamic solid and structural mechanics problems like frames, plates, and solid bodies. Subsequent chapters deal with the solution of one-, two-, and three-dimensional steady state and transient heat transfer problems; the finite element solution of fluid mechanics problems; and additional applications and generalization of the finite element method.
