Business Skills Training for Rural Sanitation Entrepreneurs: Trainer’s Guide by Joshua Kibet ,Diana Mulatya Pdf

This book comes out at a very opportune time when the sector is struggling with sanitation marketing that is considered an organic next step for rural communities that have been declared open defecation free. Besides, this publication comes in to address the gaps that face the peri-urban spaces that are facing population explosion and require innovative ways of dealing with mostly non-sewered sanitation services. This guide/manual was developed as part of a training package to support business development skills training for local sanitation entrepreneurs in Kenya. Financial and technical support was provided by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) under the Kenya integrated water and sanitation (KIWASH) project. KIWASH was a five year (2015-2020) project implemented by the Development Alternatives Incorporation (DAI) across nine counties. One of the key goals of KIWASH was to help trigger and activate demand for low cost affordable sanitation technologies in rural and low income communities. The overall objective of this manual is to equip sanitation specialists and public resource persons with the basic concepts and tools, to facilitate entrepreneurship and financial literacy training for start-up sanitation entrepreneurs in rural communities. Specifically, this manual is designed to help participants: 1) Learn the basic concepts of entrepreneurship and characteristics of successful entrepreneurs; 2) Learn and practice essential marketing techniques for sanitation products and services; 3) Develop money management competencies necessary to succeed as a small-scale entrepreneur; 4) Build necessary leadership and management skills to grow successful sanitation enterprises. Improve Your Business by Hanna N. Sahar,Håkan Jarskog,International Labour Office Pdf

This Trainer's Guide takes trainers step by step through the setting up of a 40-hour course using the materials in the book to improve Your Business Basics. Few publications are simple and clear enough to be easily understood by people who have not been exposed to business training, and yet still communicate the basic management skills required by entrepreneurs to run small businesses successfully. Improve Your Business Basics attempts to fill that gap. The underlying idea that improvements originate from active and creative thinking by entrepreneurs themselves is developed in the book to encourage and motivate entrepreneurs to improve their businesses. It forms an integral part of the Start and Improve Your Business (SIYB) programme which, in turn, is part of the ILO's International Small Enterprise Programme. The SIYB programme has been designed to provide a sustainable and cost-effective method of reaching substantial numbers of small-scale entrepreneurs and provide them with the practical management skills needed for profitablity in a competitive environment. The SIYB programme provides individuals and institutions with a comprehensive and inter-related set of training materials. Aimed at a variety of target groups, it deals with various topics related to small-enterprise development such as training, business counseling, monitoring and evaluation, and networking. Small-enterprise development institutions in more than 70 countries have used the SIYB programme. The new international edition draws on more than a decade of operational experience.

It is a useful resource for many small firms, entrepreneurship and economic development researchers, and also for policy-makers and post-graduate students interested in these areas. It provides a starting point to consider a variety of issues with regard to HRM and, in this regard it is an interesting and useful Handbook.' – Qihai Huang, International Journal of Entrepreneurial Behaviour & Research This invaluable reference tool has been designed in response to the growing recognition that too little is known about the intersection between entrepreneurship and human resource management. Paying particular attention to the 'people' side of venture emergence and development, it offers unique insights into the role that human resource management (HRM) plays in small and entrepreneurial firms. A group of international scholars contribute theoretical and empirical chapters on specific HRM issues in the context of entrepreneurial and smaller firms. The Handbook offers a new understanding of the role of HRM in developing sustainable entrepreneurship and describes how HRM practices and procedures can be used to help navigate and, indeed, drive the changing landscape in these firms. Exploring the functional aspects and nature of managing HRM in new, small, growing, emerging and entrepreneurial firms, this fascinating Handbook will not only be warmly welcomed by HRM students, researchers and academics, but also by HR practitioners and managers.
