Environmental Pollution Control:An Introduction to Principles and Practice of Administration by J. McLoughlin,Edward G. Bellinger Pdf
This work is written for those who seek effective ways of controlling environmental pollution. Indeed, many developing and East European states look to the experience of the United States and Western Europe. This book does not, however, concentrate on any one system of control or control laws, but succeeds in introducing the exact nature of pollution problems and the variety of ways in which effective control and management have been achieved. Rather than advocate a ready-made system, lessons are drawn for example from the U.K., U.S.A., Sweden, Denmark, France, Germany and New Zealand, and instructive legislative samples are reproduced, the place of international obligations being clearly marked out. The skilful and wide-ranging comparative approach adopted renders this handbook yet more valuable, based as it is on the premise that a control system is better if it is built on existing institutional and legal structures. The book will interest all who advise on environmental matters on a daily basis, particularly senior administrators, policy makers, institutions, legal advisers and researchers.

International Environmental Law and Policy in Africa by B. Chaytor,K.R. Gray Pdf
C.O.OKIDl1 I welcome the opportunity to prepare a Foreword to the book on Environmental Policy and Law in Africa, edited by Kevin R. Gray and Beatrice Chaytor. It is a pleasure to do that because the book is a contribution to the cause of capacity building for development and implementation of environmental law in Africa, a goal towards which I have had an undivided focus over the last two decades. There is still some belief in and outside Africa that for developing countries in general, and Africa in particular, development and implementation of environmental law is not a priority. This belief prevails strongly in many quarters of the industrialised countries. In fact, the view is held either out of blatant ignorance or by some renegade industrialists who fail to appreciate Michael Royston's 1979 thesis that Pollution Prevention Pays.2 That group, for obvious reasons, must have their correspondent counterparts in Africa to provide hope that industries rejected as derelict in the West or inoperable due to rigorous environmental regulation, can find homes to which they can escape and dump their polluting industries.

Marine Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation by Julian Roberts Pdf
Despite the potential benefits that the IMO's Particularly Sensitive Sea Area (PSSA) designation can deliver, recent practice within the IMO and by individual member states has considerably undermined confidence in this emerging concept. The focus of this book is on the events within the IMO that have led to this lack of confidence arising. In the process, this book presents an examination of coastal State practice with the PSSA concept.
The Science of Environmental Pollution by Frank R. Spellman Pdf
This new edition of The Science of Environmental Pollution presents common-sense approaches and practical examples based on scientific principles, models, and observations, but keeps the text lively and understandable for scientists and non-scientists alike. It addresses the important questions regarding environmental pollution: What is it? What is its impact? What are the causes and how can we mitigate them? But more than this, it stimulates new ways to think about the issues and their possible solutions. This fourth edition has been updated throughout, and greatly expands its coverage of endocrine disruptors and includes all new information on persistent "forever chemicals." Environmental issues continue to attract attention at all levels. Some sources say that pollution is the direct cause of climate change; others deny that the possibility even exists. This text sorts through the hyperbole, providing concepts and guidelines that not only aid in understanding the issues, but equip readers with the scientific rationale required to make informed decisions. Features: Updated throughout, and contains a new chapter on the effects of endocrine disruptors in the environment. Provides an introduction to air, soil, and water pollution sources and remediation. Addresses pressing issues such as global climate change, rising sea levels, polluted air, increased weather phenomena, and the state of potable water worldwide. Supplies a vital information source for policy-makers involved in decisions concerning environmental management. Includes case studies, examples, and study questions. The Science of Environmental Pollution is suitable for students taking undergraduate-level courses dealing with the environment and related pollution issues. It will also serve as a useful reference for environmental managers, politicians, legal experts, and interested general readers.

Food Industry and the Environment by J. M. Dalzall Pdf
All areas of industry are facing increasing pressure from governments and consumers to be more environmentally aware. The food industry is no exception, and an increasing number of companies have made the decision to implement an environmental policy. These organisations will benefit from this book, which has been written to provide a broad but detailed introduction to the topic of environmental issues and their cost implica tions to the food industry. Throughout the text the authors have approached the subject from a practical angle, and have borne in mind the environmental, production or site manager who is grappling with the problem of how to implement such a policy. This book begins by considering the raw materials that are used in the food industry, whether derived from animals, fruit and vegetables, or the products of genetic engineering, as may increasingly be the case in the future. Environmental and cost considerations of food processing opera tions are then examined, encompassing energy conservation and the con trol of air, noise and water pollution; all topics that are uppermost in the priorities of the environmental manager. The finished food product also has an impact on its environment, and so the storage, distribution and packaging of foods, post food factory, is discussed in detail. Finally, the principles involved in management accounting for food industry environ mental issues are highlighted. All the authors of this book are respected experts in their chosen field, each of whom could have written a complete book on their subject.
