Ergonomic Design and Assessment of Products and Systems by Aleksandar Zunjic Pdf

Ergonomic design is an applicative part of ergonomics, which deals with the adjustment and adaptation of design solutions for various objects and systems according to the users needs, such as technical products or other products for daily use. The application of ergonomics in product design contributes to the creation of new solutions that are comfortable, safe, efficient, and which contribute to the satisfaction of customers. In this book, certain topics that were not previously treated from the ergonomic aspect are represented. In this regard, topics related to the ergonomic design of certain furniture elements and traffic route evaluation can be pointed out. For the first time collectively, the interdependence of ergonomics, safety and aesthetics in relation to the design of consumer products and certain systems are considered. Also, the original method for assessing the comfort of bus interiors that are intended for the public transport of passengers is also presented. In the larger part of the publication, the emphasis is on the original approach in solving various problems of ergonomic design as well as the evaluation of products and systems. Although this publication retains an academic agenda, special attention is devoted to the applicability of the publication in terms of its accessibility and understandability for the general population.

Visual Ergonomics Handbook by Jeffrey Anshel Pdf

Viewing an electronic display screen varies significantly from reading text on paper and human eyes often suffer for it. Featuring cutting-edge research in the field of visual ergonomics, Visual Ergonomics Handbook focuses on vision and eye-care issues in both the office and industrial setting, including eye safety issues in industrial plants and construction sites. The text integrates the knowledge of leading experts in the fields of optometry, ergonomics, eye safety, and occupational medicine into a comprehensive, easy-to-read volume that also analyzes the economic benefits of developing a workplace visual ergonomics program. Written at a level that makes the information easily accessible, the chapter authors provide a simplified but thorough discussion of the process of eyesight and the components of the visual system. They explore the technology behind computer displays, discuss environmental issues surrounding eye symptoms and vision in the workplace, and examine lighting, glare, monitor position, vision distances, and other issues in detail. The chapter on glare in the workplace clarifies the role of anti-glare filters for display and the chapter on eye examinations covers the information that is critical to describe to the doctor. A discussion of the economic impact of ergonomic programs wraps up the main volume of the book. The book's multidisciplinary chapter authors give you wide ranging coverage of the issues and the editorial guidance of Jeffrey Anshel ensures that redundancies are weeded out. The first comprehensive handbook on visual ergonomics, it presents information that is adequately straightforward and technical.

Design Activism by Alastair Fuad-Luke Pdf

Design academics and practitioners are facing a multiplicity of challenges in a dynamic, complex, world moving faster than the current design paradigm which is largely tied to the values and imperatives of commercial enterprise. Current education and practice need to evolve to ensure that the discipline of design meets sustainability drivers and equips students, teachers and professionals for the near-future. New approaches, methods and tools are urgently required as sustainability expands the context for design and what it means to be a 'designer'. Design activists, who comprise a diverse range of designers, teachers and other actors, are setting new ambitions for design. They seek to fundamentally challenge how, where and when design can catalyse positive impacts to address sustainability. They are also challenging who can utilise the power of the design process. To date, examination of contemporary and emergent design activism is poorly represented in the literature. This book will provide a rigorous exploration of design activism that will re-vitalise the design debate and provide a solid platform for students, teachers, design professionals and other disciplines interested in transformative (design) activism. Design Activism provides a comprehensive study of contemporary and emergent design activism. This activism has a dual aim - to make positive impacts towards more sustainable ways of living and working; and to challenge and reinvigorate design praxis,. It will collate, synthesise and analyse design activist approaches, processes, methods, tools and inspirational examples/outcomes from disparate sources and, in doing so, will create a specific canon of work to illuminate contemporary design discourse. Design Activism reveals the power of design for positive social and environmental change, design with a central activist role in the sustainability challenge. Inspired by past design activists and set against the context of global-local tensions, expressions of design activism are mapped. The nature of contemporary design activism is explored, from individual/collective action to the infrastructure that supports it generating powerful participatory design approaches, a diverse toolbox and inspirational outcomes. This is design as a political and social act, design to enable adaptive societal capacity for co-futuring.
